Chapter 30: Fighting Fire with Fire
These two little guys are very smart. Jiang Nian didn’t allow them to get on the bed or on her, and after being confined a few times, they remembered it well.
On the other hand, Zhou Xiaoju, after coming here, was particularly fond of the two little guys. She even moved their cat beds to her room and now sleeps with the two cats every day.
Since they didn’t get on her bed, Jiang Nian let her be.
But after all, she had raised them for so long, and she did have some feelings for them.
She quickly went to check on the black cat. Its round body was already stiff.
Jiang Nian was furious.
Her death in her previous life gave her a lot of insight. After coming to this world, she had always looked at others from the perspective of an observer. This was the first time she had been so angry.
To dare to provoke her, they must be tired of living.
Zhou Xiaoju wasn’t home, and the yard was like this. It didn’t take a genius to figure out who did it.
After she moved here, her grandfather had come twice to persuade her to go back, saying that he would find her a husband, but Zhou Xiaoju refused.
Jiang Nian went straight to Zhou Shugen’s house. Except for Zhou Pozi, who was paralyzed in bed, the whole family was in the yard. Only a little boy was standing at the gate crying. He didn’t know how long he had been crying, and he looked very weak.
He was Zhou Xiaoju’s younger brother, born to the same mother.
“Where’s your sister?”
Jiang Nian looked at him for a long time and found that he was more like he couldn’t stop crying after crying for a long time.
She pressed a point on his body with her finger, and Zhou An stopped crying.
“They… they tied her up and took her away. My… my sister is gone…”
After getting Jiang Nian’s permission, Zhou Xiaoju would sometimes secretly send some food to Zhou An. The siblings had a good relationship.
“Where did they take her?”
Zhou An shook his head, “I don’t know. Save my sister, save my sister… hic…”
Jiang Nian rushed into the Zhou family’s house, interrupting the family who were laughing and talking, “Where’s Zhou Xiaoju?”
Zhou Shugen’s disgusting appearance was understandable. After all, he had always been so heartless. But Zhou Lao Ye had always depended on Zhou Xiaoju and her mother. Now, he had used harsh means to sell his granddaughter, and there was no lack of smiles on his face.
Zhou Xiaoju’s mother had taken care of her paralyzed former mother-in-law for so many years. How long had it been since she was forced to death?
Seeing Jiang Nian come in, the Zhou family was quite polite.
After all, she was so skilled in medicine. Who could guarantee that they wouldn’t get sick?
Since the last time, Zhou Shugen had been unable to regain his strength. Plus, because of Zhou Xiaoju’s trouble, both he and his wife lost their jobs, and the whole family almost fell apart.
Although he had worked outside for many years, his expenses had always been high, and he didn’t have much left over.
He was so eager to marry Zhou Xiaoju off because he wanted to use the money to cure himself quickly.
“It’s Doctor Jiang. You see, Xiaoju has been bothering you for so long. It’s really embarrassing. We found a husband for her at home, and she was married off at noon today. We’ve really troubled you these past few days. You won’t have to bother anymore.”
Zhou Shugen was smiling, just thinking about how to ask a female doctor to treat his condition without being rude, when he saw a blur in front of him. His tall and thin body flew through the air in a parabolic shape and slammed hard against the wall behind him.
“This… how can you hit someone?” Zhou Lao Ye’s face changed instantly. He quickly went to help his son.
Zhou Shugen’s wife was not someone to be trifled with. She yelled and rushed towards Jiang Nian, her two hands clawing at her face.
Jiang Nian subdued her with one hand. She was still polite to women, just pushing her to the ground.
She looked at Zhou Shugen coldly, “I don’t want to say this again. Tell me, where is Zhou Xiaoju now?”
Zhou Shugen clutched his chest, his body trembling in pain. Zhou Lao Ye was also frightened by Jiang Nian’s intimidating appearance. His mouth reacted faster than his brain, “She was taken by Zhang Ersha’s family in Xiao Wangzhuang.”
They took her away at noon, and by now, they must have already moved her. Time was of the essence, and Jiang Nian didn’t have time to waste with them.
Turning around and leaving Zhou’s house, she was about to find someone to show her the way when she saw Li Rui, Zhao Heiping, and Niu Aixiang coming from afar.
“Do you know where Xiao Wangzhuang is?” Jiang Nian asked them.
Some of the patients who came to see her were from Xiao Wangzhuang. It seemed like it wasn’t close, and she hadn’t asked about the exact location.
“I know.” Li Rui came here because he knew about this. He was afraid that Jiang Nian would be taken advantage of. He even temporarily put aside his personal grudge with Zhao Heiping. “I went there once when I bought ducks. It’s a half-hour walk.”
Jiang Nian grabbed him and left. Niu Aixiang and Zhao Heiping wanted to follow, but she stopped them, “Niu Aixiang, there’s a cat at my house that was kicked to death by the Zhou family. Li Rui and I will go to Xiao Wangzhuang. You go to my house and help me take care of the cat, okay?”
“Okay.”
After they walked away, Niu Aixiang realized, “Oh my god, it’s already this late. How can a cat be more important than a person? They won’t let her go easily in Xiao Wangzhuang. What if they get into trouble with just the two of them?”
Zhao Heiping smiled, “Maybe she deliberately didn’t want us to follow.” Although he didn’t know why, because from anyone’s perspective, it was always better to have more people in this kind of situation.
Of course, that was for others.
For Jiang Nian, she only needed someone to show her the way. More people would just be a burden.
“Which direction?”
After leaving the village, Jiang Nian asked.
Li Rui pointed, “Go that way. Let’s run faster.”
He hadn’t run two steps when he realized he was being lifted up. Jiang Nian’s feet left the ground, using her strength to jump over rivers and climb hills, darting through the fields.
Li Rui’s feet were off the ground, and he was so scared that he screamed. He held onto Jiang Nian’s waist tightly.
He gradually got used to it and even felt a thrill.
“Martial arts master?”
When Li Rui was put down, he was dizzy and spun around a few times. He couldn’t hold on any longer and sat down on the ground.
But this didn’t affect his admiration for Jiang Nian.
“Is this it?” Jiang Nian interrupted his rambling.
“This is it, but I don’t know where the fool’s house is. Let’s ask.”
There was only one fool in the whole village, and they found out right away.
When they arrived, the door was closed, and there was no sound inside.
Jiang Nian directly lifted Li Rui and jumped over the wall.
It was already getting dark. The old man was smoking in the yard when he saw two figures land in front of him. He was so scared that his legs trembled, “Who are you? What are you doing?”
He watched as the two people landed in front of him from above. If he hadn’t been old, he probably would have peed his pants on the spot.
“Is Zhou Xiaoju at your house?”
The overly quiet environment made Jiang Nian feel a bad premonition.
The old man knew why they had come. He sighed deeply and pointed to the brightly lit room, “She’s in there. Since you’re here to find her, why don’t you persuade her? She’s already come to our house. Live a good life here. We won’t mistreat her. Besides, her father doesn’t love her, and her mother is gone. Even if she goes back, no one will love her. Why bother?”
Li Rui pulled the old man, “Old man, I don’t think you’re a bad person. Let’s talk properly. I don’t think your house is bad, but Zhou Xiaoju is still a child. How can you…” He clicked his tongue, “How can you be so heartless?”
The old man obviously thought of this too. He lowered his head and said, “I was also tricked by that old bastard Zhou Lao Ye. I didn’t know she was such a young girl until I went to pick her up. But I already paid the money. It was all our savings, and my daughter almost emptied the house to get it together. Even if you come to pick her up, you can’t just take her away like this. Isn’t that leaving us with no way out?”
