Chapter 4: Unforeseen Disaster
Before her, mountains surrounded a vast valley, where vibrant wildflowers bloomed across the fields, accompanied by the gentle sound of a gurgling spring.
Walking forward through the valley, it was as if she had entered a secret realm.
The path was paved with smooth pebbles, and on both sides grew various precious herbs of long standing, the accumulation of generations of Poison Doctor Valley.
Beyond the pebble path stood a row of small buildings constructed entirely of bamboo. In front of the bamboo buildings lay the stone mill she used to grind herbs, everything still as it was when she left.
Jiang Nian took a deep breath and slowly walked into the bamboo building.
The interior of the bamboo building was extremely simple, yet it held a strong, nostalgic scent of medicine.
She didn’t know why Jiang Wan Zhou’s jade pendant had merged with her palm and brought her back to Poison Doctor Valley.
This made her wonder if her so-called time travel was just a nightmare, and she had never actually left this place.
But the clothes on her body and this body itself told her that everything she had experienced was real.
Thinking of the pain of the long sword piercing her heart, Jiang Nian sneered. She returned to her room, gathered all the poisons she had made, and went out, using her light skills to prepare for revenge.
Jiang Nian’s martial arts skills weren’t very high, but she had two unique skills: poison making and light skills. One was for killing, the other for escaping.
However, she overlooked the fact that this body had no martial arts skills whatsoever.
But she couldn’t let those bastards who had besieged her go. Don’t think that just because the mastermind was dead, the others could get away unscathed.
Since they wanted her life, as long as she had a breath left, none of them would escape.
Jiang Nian ran all the way, her tender body, her sore feet, couldn’t stop her desire for revenge.
However, when she ran to the edge of the valley, she found that the outside world was shrouded in mist, and she couldn’t get out.
What was going on?
She couldn’t help but feel confused.
Had she not returned to her previous world? Was it that Poison Doctor Valley had somehow come to another world with her and merged into a jade pendant?
Of course, all of this was just her guess.
But in another strange world, being able to carry this world with her was a blessing from heaven.
Thinking about the state of the outside world, Jiang Nian turned around and left the space, which further confirmed her guess.
Zhoudie called her out to eat at the door, and Jiang Nian responded and walked out of the room.
Jiang Wan Zhou had just brought his wife over and was sitting in the living room talking to Jiang Qinghe. Zhu Xianglan was busy in the kitchen, and Zhoudie came out to help.
Jiang Nian walked over to Jiang Qinghe and heard him urging his sister-in-law, Zhao Hongying, to have a child. Zhao Hongying looked pale and said nothing, only secretly pinching Jiang Wan Zhou.
She had been reluctant to come, but he insisted on bringing her over. She thought that her sister-in-law was about to go to the countryside, and although they weren’t close, their relationship wasn’t bad either. It was appropriate to come and see her.
If she had known that she would face pressure to have a child again, she would rather be a sister-in-law who was indifferent to her sister-in-law.
Zhao Hongying was also uncomfortable. The couple had a free love relationship and their relationship had always been harmonious. Their in-laws were also not particularly contentious.
But fate was not on their side. They hadn’t conceived for several years after marriage, and the pressure to have a child had become increasingly intense in the past two years. They had tried all sorts of remedies, but nothing worked.
Jiang Wan Zhou winced as his wife pinched him and quickly interrupted Jiang Qinghe’s urging. “Dad, having children depends on fate. We’ve tried our best, but if fate hasn’t arrived, there’s nothing we can do.”
Jiang Qinghe turned his head away, unable to bear his son’s lack of ambition.
“By the time your fate arrives, I’ll be half in the coffin. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to hold a grandchild in my lifetime.”
Zhu Xianglan brought the dishes to the table and quickly called them over to eat, taking the opportunity to smooth things over for Zhao Hongying.
But Jiang Qinghe was particularly annoyed with her at the moment and didn’t have a good tone.
The meal was filled with sarcasm, with Jiang Qinghe taking the lead, while Zhu Xianglan and her daughter kept their heads down and said nothing, looking like downtrodden wives.
Of course, that was the truth.
After the meal, Zhu Xianglan and Zhoudie cleaned up the dishes. While they were in the kitchen, Jiang Nian said a few words to Jiang Qinghe.
Jiang Wan Zhou was eager for Jiang Qinghe and Zhu Xianglan to have a bad relationship, so that the old man wouldn’t be swayed, so his words were full of provocation. “Little sister, are you stupid? That mother and daughter are forcing you to go to the countryside, and you’re still defending them…”
Jiang Nian suddenly looked at him, and Jiang Wan Zhou felt a chill down his spine and shut his mouth in embarrassment.
“Brother and sister-in-law don’t live at home, and I’m about to go to the countryside. Dad will still need Mom to take care of him. I just don’t want them to have a bad relationship because of me.”
Not to mention anything else, Jiang Qinghe had been used to being taken care of for years, and he couldn’t do without someone by his side.
These words touched Jiang Qinghe deeply. He glared at Jiang Wan Zhou angrily. “What use are you? You’re not as thoughtful as your sister. You can’t even give me a grandson…”
Seeing that the topic was about to go off track again, Jiang Wan Zhou quickly pulled his wife up. “Dad, it’s getting late. We’ll go back first. We’ll come to see you again another day.”
After they went out, Jiang Wan Zhou asked his wife, “Honey, did you think my sister was a little off today? I feel like she’s different from before.”
Zhao Hongying didn’t think so. “What’s wrong? Girls change a lot as they grow up. My sister-in-law is about to go to the countryside. She doesn’t say it out loud, but she’s probably afraid we’ll worry. She’s probably feeling sad inside. It’s normal for her to change a little.”
“Is that so?” Jiang Wan Zhou thought he was overthinking it.
Jiang Nian caught up with them. “Brother, Dad asked me to ask you and sister-in-law if you’ve been to the hospital to check your health?”
Jiang Wan Zhou’s face turned red again. He blamed the old man for asking his sister to ask these things. He was really senile. “Your sister-in-law has been, but I’m a big man, what do I need to see a doctor for? I’m fine.”
She grabbed Jiang Wan Zhou’s wrist. He was her own brother, and Jiang Wan Zhou was a little puzzled but didn’t resist.
After a moment, she let go. She already had a good idea.
She then grabbed Zhao Hongying’s wrist and let go. “I know a very good old Chinese doctor. She has a prescription that can help with getting pregnant. I’ll get the prescription for you tomorrow and try it. Anyway, sister-in-law has tried so many remedies, it doesn’t hurt to try one more, right?”
Jiang Wan Zhou thought it was the old man who told her to say that, so he didn’t refuse.
On the way, Zhao Hongying thought more and more about it. “Wan Zhou, did you feel like my sister-in-law was taking our pulse when she grabbed our wrists just now?”
She had seen many doctors over the years and had some experience in this area.
Jiang Wan Zhou didn’t take it seriously. “My sister-in-law knows how to take pulses? You’re kidding, right?”
Zhao Hongying also thought she might be overthinking it, so she didn’t say anything more.
Jiang Nian went straight back to her room and started to think about a prescription based on Jiang Wan Zhou and his wife’s situation.
Their problem wasn’t serious. Zhao Hongying just had a bit of cold palace, probably because she had taken too many remedies in the past two years, and her body had accumulated a lot of toxins, which was the key reason why she hadn’t gotten pregnant.
After writing down the prescription, she thought for a moment and decided to make it into pills in the space.
Otherwise, with Jiang Wan Zhou’s temper, which was exactly like Jiang Qinghe’s, it would be difficult for him to accept taking traditional Chinese medicine to regulate his body, especially for that aspect.
When she gave them the pills the next day, as expected, Jiang Wan Zhou’s face turned black when he heard that he had to take medicine again.
Jiang Nian repeatedly urged them to take it.
Actually, Jiang Wan Zhou didn’t have any serious problems, but having a child wasn’t just a woman’s responsibility. Regulating his body would help Zhao Hongying recover and increase the chances of getting pregnant. It would also make the child healthier.
After receiving the subsidy from the Youth League office, there were only a few days left before going to the countryside.
No matter how angry Jiang Qinghe was, he still personally took Jiang Nian to buy things. At this point, he didn’t even trust Zhu Xianglan, fearing that his daughter would be short of something in the countryside.
Even if the place where she was going to work was not far away, it wasn’t like she was in front of him, where he could see her anytime.
A mother worries about her child even when they are a thousand miles away. His daughter’s mother had passed away early, so he, as her father, had to worry more.
Qin Mingyu had just bought a pen at the supply and marketing cooperative when he turned around and saw a girl with an extremely cold and beautiful face.
She wasn’t overly dressed, but her eyebrows were like distant mountains, and her face was like snow from the sky. Just standing there, even with a smile on her lips, she gave off a sense of detachment and indifference.
But it was precisely this that made him extremely attracted to her.
The girl beside her saw him stunned and followed his gaze. Her face instantly turned sour.
“Mingyu, what are you looking at?” The girl deliberately interrupted him.
“Nothing, I just saw someone I know. Wait here for a moment, I’ll go say hello.” Qin Mingyu said as he walked towards Jiang Qinghe.
He seemed to be talking to Jiang Qinghe, but his gaze was subtly fixed on Jiang Nian. Jiang Nian noticed this and simply walked away.
The girl deliberately followed Jiang Nian and warned her, “Mingyu is mine. You better not have any ideas.”
Jiang Nian was a little confused and then laughed. “Comrade, you need to see a doctor for your mental illness. Don’t delay.”
“You…” The girl snorted in dissatisfaction. “Don’t be so smug. I’ve said what I needed to say. If you dare to compete with me, you won’t have a good ending.”
Jiang Nian didn’t take this matter to heart. She just thought she had encountered a fool and didn’t need to bother with her.
This was a peaceful world. She couldn’t fight or kill. She had to control herself.
Jiang Nian didn’t expect that she didn’t say a word to Qin Mingyu the whole time, but she brought herself an unforeseen disaster.
The girl could clearly feel Tan Mingyu’s admiration for Jiang Nian. On the way back, she asked him about Jiang Nian’s background.
Qin Mingyu happened to want to get rid of the girl’s entanglement, so he frankly said that he had fallen in love with Jiang Nian at first sight, which made the girl furious.
When she got home, she started to make a fuss with her parents.
Jiang Qinghe looked at the notice from the Youth League office and exploded.
“Old Li, I asked you to help my daughter find a place to work nearby, not to send her far away. Why did you send her to Jianglin City? I’ve never even heard of that place. I don’t know where it is. Is this how you help?”
