Chapter 70: Excellent Women
It’s no wonder neither of them recognized each other.
The last time they met, Jiang Nian was in disguise, and Song Yanbai was chasing after a spy, his face covered with a long beard that he hadn’t had time to shave. Plus, his attention was focused on the spy who was holding the hostage, so he didn’t pay much attention to the people around him.
The other two men chased out from inside, bursting into laughter.
“Your pick-up line is so unoriginal. Old Song, you’ve got to be kidding me!”
They teased him about it for a long time, but Song Yanbai didn’t bother explaining.
After lunch, there was still some time left, so Jiang Nian went for another bike ride.
The scenery in Jianglin City was really nice. There were many mountains and rivers, surrounded by small bridges, and fishing boats passing by.
It wasn’t until it was almost time that she returned to the station and pushed her bicycle onto the bus.
The bus was driving along the outskirts when suddenly, it braked. Everyone on the bus lurched forward, some even hitting their heads.
A big man complained, “What kind of driving is that? You’ve hit my head!”
The driver, equally startled, cursed, “There was a woman who wanted to die in front of me. Damn it, I almost had an accident.”
As soon as he finished speaking, someone started banging on the door.
A woman was calling out from outside, but it was unclear what she was saying through the door.
The moment the door opened, Jiang Nian happened to look up and saw that the person who had stopped the bus was Li Qing.
“Help, help, someone’s killing people. Please save us…”
Hearing this, everyone on the bus was terrified.
The driver only had time to ask, “What happened?” before he saw Jiang Nian rushing out of the bus at top speed, grabbing Li Qing. “Where?”
“Over there. My mother stopped the man to let me run. Aunt Wang was stabbed. Hurry, go save them…” Li Qing’s hair was disheveled, her eyes were vacant. She was only instinctively asking for help.
Jiang Nian rushed towards that direction. The road along the side of the road was uneven, a desolate wasteland, with only waist-high weeds trampled down in a mess.
In a patch of fallen weeds, Jiang Nian saw a figure lying half-covered in blood. It was Wang Juan, who had been so aggressive at the police station.
She checked her briefly. She had been stabbed in the shoulder, but it wasn’t fatal.
She went a little further and found Yan’s mother, who had been stabbed twice.
There were sharp screams ahead. When she got there, four thugs were assaulting a woman.
It was something Jiang Nian hated the most.
A dagger materialized from her space into her hand. She charged forward with lightning speed, and with a flick of her wrist, the four men were decapitated.
She took off her cotton jacket and covered the woman with it. She half-hugged her. “Are you okay?”
Her usually cold voice trembled slightly, with a hint of heartache. The woman’s voice was hoarse, and her expression was cloudy for a moment, but she quickly regained her composure.
“Thank you, thank you…” She kept repeating those words.
“Don’t be afraid. The bad guys are dead. I’ll take you home.” Jiang Nian comforted her.
The woman had been helped up. She looked at the group of people running towards them from afar, then turned back to look at the four dead thugs. She suddenly said, “Doctor Jiang, I want to put on my clothes first. Can you stop the others from coming over?”
“Can you do that?”
“I’m fine. It’s just… I want to borrow your knife to defend myself.” Her trembling body still spoke of her fear.
Jiang Nian handed her the knife and said, “You can say that I saved you in time. No one else will know the truth about what happened today. Sister, be strong. You have a long life ahead of you.”
She looked only a few years older than Li Qing, probably a young wife. In this era still burdened by feudalism, such a thing had happened. Jiang Nian was afraid she might not be able to handle it.
“Don’t worry, Doctor Jiang. I won’t kill myself. It’s not my fault. Why should I die?”
“Right, that’s a good way to think about it. Put on your clothes first. I’ll go stop them.” Jiang Nian saw that she didn’t seem suicidal, so she went forward to stop the people. She also picked up a pebble and ran forward, keeping an eye on the situation behind her.
If she wanted to commit suicide, she could stop her in time.
However, the woman didn’t seem to want to die. Instead, she took the dagger and stabbed the dead thugs, again and again, frantically and with a sense of relief.
Jiang Nian clenched the stone tightly. A thought in her mind was extending in another direction, but she couldn’t be sure of the woman’s intentions until it came to that.
But for now, the most important thing was to stop the others.
The injured Wang Juan and Yan’s mother had stopped a few people, but three more were running towards them.
Jiang Nian was about to speak when she heard the woman behind her suddenly shout, “Kill you, I’m going to kill you, all of you die…”
Her voice was loud, as if she was deliberately trying to lure people over.
Jiang Nian immediately confirmed her thoughts.
She moved in a flash, and the three people in front of her all fainted.
She took out a porcelain bottle, poured out the pills inside, and gave each of the three men one.
She turned back to the woman and pulled her away from her frenzy. She also took back the dagger.
The woman didn’t know that the three men had already fainted. She whispered weakly, “Doctor Jiang, I killed those four people. It has nothing to do with you. My father is the captain of the militia. He will help me. As long as I insist that I was the killer, no one will suspect you.”
“You fool!” Jiang Nian said, pushing her away.
She walked over to the bodies, which were now in a mess, and took out a bottle of liquid from her bag. She poured it over the four bodies.
The dissolving liquid quickly evaporated, and the four bodies quickly turned into a pool of blood.
She had originally planned to move the woman away first and then find a chance to put the bodies into her space. After all, the dissolving liquid could dissolve the bodies, but the remaining blood still needed to be dealt with.
Now, thanks to her actions, there was blood all over the ground.
Jiang Nian took out her clothes from her bag and handed them to the woman. “Time is tight now. Go to the side and change your clothes. Be careful not to get blood on the ground.”
The woman was already stunned. She numbly followed Jiang Nian’s instructions, carefully taking the clothes and going to the side.
When she walked a distance away, Jiang Nian picked up a shovel and dealt with the blood on the ground. She threw all the blood-stained soil into her space. After making sure there was nothing left, she started digging a hole.
When the woman came back, she had already dug a large hole. It wasn’t deep, but it was wide.
Jiang Nian took out a damp towel from her bag, wiped the shovel from top to bottom, and then casually threw it on the ground.
She took the blood-stained clothes from the woman and handed her the towel. “There’s still blood on your forehead. Wipe it clean. And your hair too.”
They both cleaned themselves up, making sure there was no mistake. Jiang Nian then said, “Remember, those thugs knocked you unconscious, so you don’t know anything. They dug this hole too. No matter how the police question you, stick to this story. If you don’t know how to answer, just go crazy, cry, and be scared. Understand?”
“I understand, I understand.”
Although she had just been assaulted and experienced such a terrifying scene, the woman was very strong.
If she had been born into a good enough family and had the opportunity to receive a better education, she would definitely have been a very excellent woman.
