Chapter 75: Reunion, A Bit Tragic
Actually, it was the city people who started the movement to break down feudalism. The people in the countryside still believe in those old ways.
Some people know it’s all fake, but life needs a belief to keep going.
Jiang Nian accepted the chicken.
Ye Zhiqiu and Zhang Er had already returned to wait at the gate when they saw Zheng Jian Guo coming. When he left, Zhang Er quickly threw the two chickens into the coop.
When they came back, they saw Jiang Nian giving something to Ye Zhiqiu.
“This is the watch I bought for you in the city yesterday. It’ll be easier to tell time with it.”
Ye Zhiqiu held the watch, her smile impossible to hide. “Master…”
She was so excited she didn’t know what to say. At that moment, anything she said felt superfluous and couldn’t express her feelings.
Jiang Nian had no intention of getting sentimental. She calmly walked outside. “I need to go out for a while. I’ll be back in an hour or two. If there are any patients, have them wait.”
“Okay, I understand.” Ye Zhiqiu’s voice was always a little louder when she was happy, as if that was the only way to express her excitement.
She looked at the watch in her hand, unable to put it down. Although it wasn’t as exquisite as her master’s, it was the most precious thing she had ever owned.
She put the watch on her wrist, her eyes misty. Then she looked at the bicycle in the yard. It felt like she was living a dream.
Zhang Er couldn’t help but feel envious. “Dr. Jiang is so good to you.”
“Of course, she’s my master, my own.” Ye Zhiqiu had a rare moment of girlish pride.
Zhang Er smiled. “Yes, yes, she’s your master. So, future Dr. Ye, are we going to learn to ride the bicycle?”
“Of course, I haven’t learned yet.” Ye Zhiqiu said.
Jiang Nian didn’t have a specific destination in mind. She just needed to go out so she could have a reason to take out the things she bought yesterday.
But the villagers’ enthusiasm made her uncomfortable, and she was tired of dealing with their pointless questions.
Especially, there was a young man who came up to her and boldly said he wanted to be her revolutionary partner.
A crowd of onlookers gathered around, making Jiang Nian feel even more lost.
She politely declined the young man’s enthusiasm, and she didn’t dare to wander around the village anymore. She could only run up the mountain.
The winter forest was desolate, and the animals had lost their protective cover. She encountered many along the way.
But the wild chickens and rabbits in her space were almost overflowing. Not only did she not catch any of these wild animals, but she also released many from her space.
Of course, she didn’t dare to release the wild boars and wolves. There were several villages near the mountain, and it would be bad if they hurt anyone. But to avoid a plague, she had to go into her space and kill them one by one, leaving only a few breeding pairs in their prime. The rest perished at Jiang Nian’s hands.
She couldn’t be blamed for being cruel. The time in her space was ten times faster. At first, she had no qualms about collecting many wild boars and wolves, which led to overpopulation in her space.
But it was also a good thing in a way. Every winter, the vegetation in the mountains would decrease, and wild boars would often come down to the fields to destroy the wheat seedlings, or wolves would come down to the villages and hurt people. At that time, they would need to form teams to hunt in the mountains, which was the main task of the militia.
Not every year, but there were always a couple of unlucky people who would die at the claws of wild animals.
It was already the twelfth lunar month, and there had been no incidents of wild animals attacking people. Just yesterday at noon, the commune had a meeting to discuss whether the hunting had been excessive in previous years, which might have led to a decrease in the wolf and wild boar populations.
But they would never guess that the reason for this was not related to them at all. It was because a different kind of educated youth had come to Zhoujia Village this year, Jiang Nian.
Although she could control everything in her space with her mind, it wasn’t like she could just think of something and make it happen. She had to do it step by step, one thing at a time.
So, with such a large workload, she was exhausted when she came out of her space. She almost stumbled and fell.
Just then, a large hand grabbed her ankle.
In the deep mountains, this sudden event startled Jiang Nian. She lifted her foot and kicked back hard.
When she jumped back a distance and looked back, she saw a man on the ground.
He was seriously injured.
His upper body was already covered in blood, and her kick had caused him to roll twice on the ground. He lay there, completely still.
Jiang Nian walked over and kicked him on the back to test if he was still alive. He wasn’t completely unresponsive.
She then squatted down to examine him.
The man was tall and had a crew cut. The back of his head was clearly injured, with a large bump that was still bleeding. But there were no rocks around, so it couldn’t have been caused by the rolling.
His bones weren’t broken, so she flipped him over.
He had a handsome face. His eyebrows were sharp, his facial lines were clean and sharp, his nose was high, and there was blood below it. His thin lips were slightly pursed, with a hint of indifference. His eyes were tightly closed, and his brows were furrowed into a straight line, a look of pain.
She didn’t know if the blood below his nose was caused by a broken nasal membrane or a brain hemorrhage from the injury to the back of his head.
If it was the latter, it would be a bit troublesome.
There was blood flowing from the right side of his broad chest. She tore open his clothes and saw a bleeding hole. Based on the original owner’s memory, it should be a gunshot wound.
Although some people in the village hid hunting rifles, there weren’t many who dared to use them to injure people.
The conditions were primitive, so she could only stop the bleeding first.
This man’s injuries were much more serious than Yan Jin’s last time.
But it also made Jiang Nian wonder if she had a grudge against this mountain. She had picked up two people here in two visits.
The last time, she picked up a troublesome person. Not only did she not get any thanks, but she also got into a lot of trouble.
This time…
Forget it. It was fate that brought them together. It was his good fortune to meet her.
Besides, although he looked miserable now, his appearance and clothing were definitely not those of an ordinary farmer. Yan Jin didn’t dress as well as him. The quality and craftsmanship of his clothes were not ordinary cheap goods.
Because he was so badly injured, if she used a sedative, it might cause him to never wake up. Jiang Nian didn’t dare to use it casually.
But she wasn’t stupid. She moved him into the woods outside the valley, but the lush green scenery was different from the outside world. She made a tent to block people’s sight.
With his current injuries, he couldn’t move at all.
When Jiang Nian reached the village, she happened to see the young man who had just confessed to her crying with a long face. Several of his peers were around him, probably comforting him.
Jiang Nian walked a few steps away to make sure he was still unconscious, then released the people from her space.
“Hey… people in front, come and help. There’s a seriously injured person here. I can’t move him…”
