Chapter 82: Dislike Being Controlled, Negotiate
“Not busy, not busy.” Like Yan Jin, he couldn’t help but feel nervous when faced with Jiang Nian’s kind attitude.
After all, from the moment he saw her, he felt that this girl was a treasure, and he probably wouldn’t have the chance to meet someone like her in his lifetime.
If he missed this chance, it would be a regret for the rest of his life.
Jiang Nian gestured for him to sit down before asking, “Director Yan, you must be wondering why I would choose to stay in such a small place when there are better opportunities out there?”
“Dr. Jiang is a sentimental person. The villagers and the village head in Zhoujia Village are good comrades. You’ve lived here for so long. It’s understandable that you wouldn’t want to leave. But the Yanjia Village Health Center isn’t that far from here. It will still be convenient for them to see a doctor. So, Dr. Jiang, you don’t need to worry about that.”
She was being given too much credit. It wasn’t like that at all.
Playing riddles with someone like this would eventually drive her crazy.
She simply said directly, “I’m a free spirit. I don’t like being controlled. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have chosen a health center. Director Qi invited me to the city hospital yesterday. Did Director Yan know about this?”
Yan Jin frowned. Director Qi hadn’t told him about it.
But he had to admit that the city hospital was definitely a better place.
But the health center had already been built. What if there was no doctor…
Yan Jin couldn’t imagine the consequences.
When he had submitted the report, he had been so confident. Later, when he wanted to back out, he couldn’t say anything bad about Jiang Nian, so he could only take the blame himself. But he was still met with a lot of difficulties.
If something went wrong, he couldn’t imagine it.
“So, what does Dr. Jiang mean?”
People always strive for better things. If Jiang Nian really wanted to go, he didn’t seem to have any reason to stop her.
It’s just that the higher she went, the more distant their hopes would become.
“I refused.”
Jiang Nian’s words sent Yan Jin’s heart plummeting to hell and then soaring to heaven.
But before he could get his footing in heaven, he heard, “But Director Qi said that the doors of the city hospital are always open to me.”
Yan Jin was just smitten, not stupid. He could see that Jiang Nian was trying to negotiate.
He smiled, suddenly feeling a little contemptuous of himself. He was twenty-four or five years old, but he was still like a lovesick teenager.
But if it was this girl, he was willing to be foolish for once.
“Dr. Jiang, just say what’s on your mind. We’re all comrades working together to build the countryside. It’s all for the sake of the villagers. I will try my best to meet Dr. Jiang’s needs.”
Jiang Nian said, “Director Yan is a good leader who cares about the people and the country. So, I’ll be straight with you. Everyone knows about my medical skills. I’ve been here for a long time, and I’ve done my best to treat people. As I said, I’m a free spirit. I don’t like being controlled. So, I have to be in charge of the health center. Also, I practice traditional Chinese medicine. I don’t know much about Western medicine. So, we can decide whether or not we need to supply the health center with Western medicine.”
“That’s no problem. I’ve already reported to the higher-ups. You’ll be the leader of the health center. It’s just that the health center isn’t a small clinic. So, we can’t just have you. The town health center will send a doctor, and there will also be two nurses and a security guard. But you will be in charge of allocating and managing them. As for whether or not we’ll add more staff later, it will depend on how things develop.”
It seemed like there were no problems.
Jiang Nian couldn’t be too demanding. “I have Ye Zhiqiu as my assistant. I hope Zhang Er can be the security guard. After all, we’re both girls. It’s better to have someone we know around.”
“Okay, you can notify Zhang Er yourselves. You can also set your own work hours. The other doctor will probably be transferred after the New Year. The nurses will be in a similar situation.” Yan Jin had made concession after concession, completely subverting his usual decisive style.
He stood up. “That’s it for now. I’ll go back and arrange for someone to clean up immediately. The injured man will stay at the city hospital for another day. Tomorrow, he’ll be sent directly to the health center. You guys should also make arrangements to move there as soon as possible. Any questions?”
Jiang Nian shook her head. “Thank you for understanding, Director Yan.”
Yan Jin had a lot to do next.
After he left, Director Qi was still waiting outside.
After all, he had been brought back with him, so he had to ask if he was still going to the city.
As it turned out, Yan Jin went back to the commune to arrange some things while he was in the city.
When Ye Zhiqiu came back, she was covered in mud. It was obvious that she had fallen on the road.
Jiang Nian was lying on a lounge chair in the courtyard, basking in the sun. The tabby cat was nestled at her feet.
As soon as Ye Zhiqiu came in, the tabby cat jumped up and ran towards her.
Ye Zhiqiu’s face lit up with joy, but when she thought about her current state, she lowered her head in guilt.
“I’m sorry, Master.”
Jiang Nian opened her eyes and understood immediately. “What happened?”
“I just fell on the road. The front wheel of the bicycle hit a stone, and it got a scratch.”
She had a scratch on her hand, but she felt guilty about the bicycle because it was brand new, and she had damaged it.
Fortunately, she had learned to ride the bicycle after she fell, but she didn’t dare to ride the rest of the way. She pushed it back, which is why she was so late.
“The bicycle is just a tool, even if it’s expensive. It’s here to serve us. So, there’s no need to think of it as more important than yourself.” Jiang Nian sighed helplessly. “Forget it. Go put some medicine on it first. Then clean up the house. We’re moving tomorrow morning.”
Ye Zhiqiu realized that they were moving to Yanjiazhuang right now, not after the New Year.
“It would have been nice if Director Yan had come to tell us earlier. At least if Zhang Er was still here, he could have helped with a lot of things.”
Jiang Nian thought she was right to complain. She had already packed up her bed and personal belongings, and she didn’t want to do anything else.
“Take some of the dried vegetables. Go see if anyone in the village has time. Ask them to help you go to Xiaowangzhuang to tell Zhang Er that he can prepare to start working at the health center.”
“Really?” Ye Zhiqiu excitedly stomped her feet. She was even happier than she was about going to work herself. She suddenly remembered to ask, “By the way, Master, Zhang Er is going to work. What about me? Am I considered a health center employee?”
When Jiang Nian nodded, she exclaimed excitedly, “Great! I’ll go find someone, Master.”
Zhang Er came back with Ye Zhiqiu. When the news reached his family, they couldn’t believe it.
They were already grateful to heaven that their foolish son had recovered. They were thinking about how to thank Jiang Nian when they were stunned by the news that their son had a job.
When Zhang Er left, his family gave him a thousand instructions, afraid that he would do something wrong and upset Jiang Nian or let her down.
When the villagers heard that Jiang Nian was moving to the health center, many of them came to help, but she politely declined.
Of course, Li Rui stayed. After all, he was an experienced worker and had a knack for packing herbs.
Too many people would be a problem. If they messed up or mixed up the herbs, it would be a hassle for her and Ye Zhiqiu.
