Chapter 32: Sending Zhao Pozi In
The police officers had heard from the Liu family that Bai Ruojiao had been mistreated after marrying into the Zhao family. They believed that the Zhao family was the one harming her, not the other way around.
They had just witnessed Zhao Pozi’s unreasonable behavior and her ability to twist the truth, so they were even more convinced of what everyone was saying.
Most importantly, before Bai Ruojiao arrived, they had already received the test results. Zhao Lao San’s stomach only contained alcohol residue and no other abnormalities. It was clear that Bai Ruojiao was being falsely accused.
However, although they sympathized with her, the officers still had to follow procedure and question her. Zhao Sihai pulled Bai Ruojiao to record a statement.
The policeman who had brought her from the village had already handed over his notes to the officer taking the statement. They both answered every question honestly and cooperatively, which made the officers have a better impression of them.
After recording the statement and finding no problems, they were allowed to leave.
Zhao Sihai nodded in thanks, then said goodbye to the village chief, the team leader, and the brigade leader before pulling Bai Ruojiao away from the police station. He didn’t even glance at Zhao Gensheng, who was being pestered by the Liu family.
As they left the police station, Bai Ruojiao saw the scratches on Zhao Sihai’s chest and neck and wanted to take him to the nearby hospital. But Zhao Sihai stopped her.
She turned to look at him.
Zhao Sihai just pursed his lips, his face grim, and pulled her away without saying a word.
Bai Ruojiao was stunned, then she realized something and pursed her lips. She knew that this incident would definitely not be hidden from Zhao Sihai. After all, he knew everything about their home.
The bottle of wine that his friend had sent had already been finished. They didn’t have any wine coupons, so how could Zhao Pozi have found a bottle of wine at home to give to Zhao Lao San? Others might not know, but Zhao Sihai was a sharp person. He would definitely notice the inconsistencies.
They walked in silence until they reached a secluded place.
Zhao Sihai turned to look at her. He had originally wanted to take her home and talk about it, but he sensed her suppressed emotions and was afraid she would overthink things.
Seeing her pursing her lips and turning her face away, he felt helpless, heartbroken, and a little guilty. After all, Bai Ruojiao had had a hard time all these years, and he wasn’t there when she was suffering. It was normal for her not to trust him or rely on him.
But there were some things he had to say.
“In the future, if you have anything, tell me first. I’ll handle these risky things. Don’t do it yourself. Unless it’s absolutely necessary, always put your safety first.”
He couldn’t blame her for setting up Zhao Lao San. He was just afraid that she would impulsively get herself into trouble.
It was fortunate that Zhao Pozi was so persistent. If the police had really investigated thoroughly, even if nothing was found, she would still have gotten herself into a mess.
He was also a little regretful.
In fact, Zhao Sihai had already thought about dealing with the Zhao family. He had wanted to take things slowly, but he had overlooked his wife’s feelings. She must have been driven to do this by the Zhao family.
Bai Ruojiao turned to look at him in surprise. Seeing the genuine concern and determination in his eyes, her expression softened slightly.
She pursed her lips, “You’re not mad at me for getting your brother and your mother convicted?”
Zhao Sihai sighed softly and reached out to gently straighten her messy bangs. Then he held her shoulders, lowered his head, and said earnestly,
“I know what kind of people they are. I’m sorry for making you suffer. I won’t let them have any more opportunities. Leave it to me, okay?”
Bai Ruojiao looked up at him, meeting his gaze. She saw the sincerity and determination in his eyes.
Her eyes were a little red, but she finally pursed her lips and nodded lightly, “Okay.”
However, there was one thing she didn’t say: the premise was that they didn’t come to bother her.
Hearing this, Zhao Sihai’s face finally relaxed.
He didn’t ask her where the bottle of wine came from or if she had gone out last night in connection with this incident. He didn’t want to push her too hard and cause her to rebel.
“Let’s go home.” He reached out and took her hand, wanting to go back.
Bai Ruojiao held him back, “Go to the hospital first. It’s just a few steps away. We don’t have any medicine at home, so we don’t have to go to the health center.”
Zhao Sihai didn’t care, “It’s not a serious injury…”
“No, even if it’s not tetanus, we need to disinfect and apply medicine. What if the wound gets infected?” Bai Ruojiao glared at him, pulling him towards the hospital.
Seeing that she was genuinely worried, Zhao Sihai opened his mouth, but in the end, he didn’t refuse. He smiled and obediently followed her to the hospital.
When they left the hospital and were returning to the village, Bai Ruojiao remembered his work problem and hurriedly asked, “What about your work unit?”
Zhao Sihai smiled, “It’s fine. I asked someone to take half a day off for me this morning.”
Bai Ruojiao nodded.
When they returned to the village, everyone they met on the road would ask them a question.
Zhao Sihai blocked them all with the same answer: “I don’t know the details yet. We’ll wait for the police station to notify us.”
When they arrived at Fang’s house, Aunt Fang was also worried, afraid that they would be implicated.
Seeing their concern, Bai Ruojiao smiled.
“It’s fine. The police will handle it according to the law.”
Hearing her say this, everyone felt relieved.
Fang Daqiang asked Zhao Sihai, “Will this affect your work?”
Zhao Sihai also shook his head, “This is a personal conduct issue, not a class issue. It won’t affect it.”
“That’s good.” Aunt Fang breathed a sigh of relief.
With Zhao Sihai here, she couldn’t criticize the Zhao family. She could only comfort them.
After thanking them, they took An’an back home.
But soon, after the brigade courtyard issued a notice, everyone knew the outcome.
Although Zhao Lao San had indeed committed hooliganism, the object was a pig, which was difficult to handle legally.
So, they chose a compromise.
Zhao Lao San was paraded through the streets for three days and detained for a month.
As for Zhao Pozi, she was also detained for a month for slander, assault on a police officer, and even slander of public officials.
Everyone was surprised that Zhao Pozi was also in trouble.
Then, they listened to the Liu family’s vivid account of Zhao Pozi’s “heroic deeds” at the police station, and they all felt a sense of justice.
As for the Liu family, they received 100 yuan in compensation.
Only Zhao Gensheng returned from the police station dejectedly. He was pointed at and gossiped about on the way back, and he didn’t have the face to stay outside.
He gave the Liu family the money and closed the door.
Zhao Xiaohui also hid in the house all day, afraid to come out. This incident was too embarrassing.
She was also furious, but at the same time, she was even more determined to marry Liao Yu’an.
She couldn’t stay here anymore. She wanted to go back to the city with Liao Yu’an.
Meanwhile, in Beicheng.
Bai Yunyun had just finished work and was riding her bicycle home. She had a bag of fruit on the handlebars.
Fruit was hard to come by these days.
Seeing the bag of fruit, Liao Qing knew who had given it to her. Jealousy flashed in her eyes.
“Yunyun, you went there again?”
Bai Yunyun saw her mother staring at the fruit with an unhappy expression. She smiled.
She picked up the fruit and went over to put her arm around her mother’s, taking her into the house. She closed the door and said,
“Mom, why are you unhappy again? Why are you always dwelling on this? Just think about it. This fruit was sent to your daughter by your enemy. In the future, there will be more than just this. Maybe everything your enemy has will be your daughter’s, and naturally, it will be yours too. Wouldn’t that make you happy? Let your enemy help you spoil your daughter and raise her. Isn’t that good?”
