Chapter 52: Trouble Strikes Again
He went over and pulled them apart, one in each hand, “Enough, stop fighting. Are you trying to make things even more embarrassing?”
Since his wife and son were detained, Zhao Gensen had been worried for the first day.
After he tasted the sweetness of having his wife away from home, being able to arrange his savings as he pleased, and truly being the head of the family, Zhao Gensen’s only worry now was his wife coming back.
As the days passed, he lived by the motto of enjoying each day while his wife was away.
He had become more relaxed recently, even eating meat. Life was sweet.
The only thing that gave him a headache was the two sisters fighting like enemies every day.
What happened at the Zhao family wouldn’t spread far in the middle of the night.
At this time, Bai Ruojiao had just finished delivering food and dry rations to Old Qin and the others.
The medicine she had delivered last time seemed to have worked. Grandma Qin could actually get out of bed now, which made Bai Ruojiao very happy.
If Grandma Qin could continue to recover, the tragedy of her previous life should be avoided.
When she came back, the father and son had already taken a bath. Zhao Sihai was reading a picture book to An’an.
“You’re back. There’s hot water in the kitchen.” He shone the flashlight over, making sure it was her, and said in a low voice.
“Okay.” Bai Ruojiao went to the kitchen to put things away, then went into the house to get her clothes and went to the bathroom.
There was also a kerosene lamp lit in the bathroom, but it wasn’t as convenient as an electric light.
She remembered that at the end of last year, it was said that electricity might be brought to the village next year.
But she didn’t live to see it in her previous life, so she didn’t know when it would actually happen.
The next day, Bai Ruojiao stayed at home all day.
Although Zhao Sihai had left his bicycle on purpose, she didn’t plan to go out today. She was going to continue making clothes.
After all, Zhao Sihai already knew she had a source of goods, so she was a little more relaxed about taking things out.
She took out a piece of corduroy today and planned to make three sets of autumn and winter pajamas.
But today wasn’t as peaceful as usual. There were quite a few people who came to the door.
Zhao Gensen came once, mainly to put pressure on her with filial piety, asking her to persuade Zhao Sihai to give the job to his brother.
But Aunt Fang happened to be there too. When she heard this, she immediately retorted sarcastically.
Then, the village head’s wife also came. Like Aunt Fang, she said she wanted to learn how to make the sweatshirt she made for An’an.
But both of them also wanted to inquire about the job situation and prevent the other from getting ahead.
Zhao Sihai hadn’t mentioned the conditions for changing jobs yet, so those who were interested could only wait and inquire.
The village head’s family was the one with the best conditions in the brigade.
Thinking about the two thousand yuan Hai ge mentioned, probably only the village head’s family could afford it.
But she knew that Hai ge might have other options.
That was Tang Hua’s convoy. It was possible that there were brothers who had been discharged from the army and were no longer driving. It was understandable if he took care of them.
So, she didn’t reveal anything to them. She just said that everything was arranged by him.
Both of them were understanding and didn’t ask any further questions. They focused on learning how to make clothes and didn’t leave until noon.
There were also people who came to deliver gifts to inquire or build relationships, but they were both able to talk them out of it.
This saved Bai Ruojiao some trouble.
She originally wanted to invite them to have lunch together, but they both declined. In the end, she could only give each of them a piece of corduroy fabric.
Zhao Sihai wasn’t home at noon. The mother and son closed the door and went to the small villa to have a delicious meal.
In the afternoon, they welcomed another guest.
But when she saw this guest, Bai Ruojiao was quite happy.
“Sister Huihua, why are you here? Come in and sit down. Are you resting today?”
Su Huihua has been really busy at the health center lately.
The change of seasons has led to more people getting sick recently, and the health center serves several villages, so she often has to work overtime.
Bai Ruojiao had wanted to invite her to dinner, but she couldn’t find the time.
“Oh, the health center hired another nurse the other day, so the pressure has eased, and I have time to take turns resting.”
Su Huihua said as she walked in. Seeing An’an sitting at the table, diligently writing, she immediately broke into a doting smile.
“An’an~”
“Auntie Hua~” Seeing the visitor, An’an jumped off the stool and ran towards her, smiling.
Seeing him bouncing around, Su Huihua was startled, “Hey, little darling, be careful. Don’t fall.”
“No, no, Auntie Hua, An’an misses you~” An’an held her hand and acted cute.
Su Huihua’s heart melted. She couldn’t help but pick him up and kiss him on the cheek.
“Auntie Hua misses An’an too. Look what Auntie brought you~”
Su Huihua said, taking a square cardboard box with cartoon patterns from her pocket.
An’an saw the box and was curious, “What is this, Auntie Hua?”
Su Huihua smiled and carried him to the table to sit down, “This is a flying chess game. Come on, Auntie Hua will teach you how to play.”
Bai Ruojiao brought over a cup of warm water. Seeing this, she said helplessly, “You came here, why did you bring a gift?”
Su Huihua laughed, “That’s not mine. I’m just passing it on. Doctor Liu asked me to bring this to An’an. He said it was a gift from his friend in the south. He doesn’t have any children at home. He heard that I was coming back today, so he asked me to bring it.”
Bai Ruojiao didn’t know what to say. She just thought she should ask Su Huihua to bring something to Doctor Liu next time.
An’an was very interested in the flying chess game. He played two rounds and wanted to play more.
Su Huihua played with him while telling her about the latest news.
Bai Ruojiao listened to her talk about the hospital, and she couldn’t help but ask, “Sister Huihua, what are your plans for the future?”
Su Huihua was stunned and looked at her.
“Have you thought about going back to the city?” This time, she said it more directly.
Su Huihua pursed her lips, rolled the dice, moved two steps, and said with her eyes downcast, “Of course I’ve thought about it, but…”
She shook her head gently. After waiting for so many years, she had given up.
Bai Ruojiao pursed her lips. She wanted to tell her the news about the college entrance exam being restored immediately.
But thinking that the news would come out in a month, she held back.
She asked instead, “If you have the chance to go back to the city, what do you want to do?”
Su Huihua smiled softly, “If I could, I would definitely want to work in a hospital. But the hope is too slim. Forget about me, let’s talk about you. What are your plans with Sihai?”
“What plans? Just like this.” She shrugged. She couldn’t say more.
Su Huihua immediately frowned, “You’re not going to move to the city? Your mother-in-law will be released in ten days. There will be trouble then. You should move to the city sooner.”
Bai Ruojiao chuckled, “Then we can’t move to the city. If she goes straight to the factory to cause trouble, Hai ge’s job might be in jeopardy.”
Su Huihua frowned when she heard this, “Then what should we do? Zhao Lao San is still in there. She definitely won’t give up.”
Bai Ruojiao shook her head, “Don’t worry. Hai ge already has a plan. I’ll just follow his lead.”
As they were talking, they heard a knock on the door.
The sound was definitely Zhao Xiaohui.
Hearing Zhao Xiaohui’s voice, she felt annoyed, “I’ll go take a look.”
As soon as she opened the door, she saw Zhao Xiaohui’s swollen eyes and face, as well as the scratches on her face.
She couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow.
As soon as Zhao Xiaohui saw her, she immediately rushed towards her as if she had seen a savior, “Fourth sister-in-law, no good, something happened at home! “
