Chapter 53: A Masterful Act of Death
Bai Ruojiao immediately avoided her hand and asked with a frown, “What happened?”
Su Huihua also came out and looked at Zhao Xiaohui, whose face was bruised.
Zhao Xiaohui’s voice trembled with anxiety, “Fourth sister-in-law, Big Sister stole all the money and tickets from home. Dad went after her, but he fell and injured his leg. Big Sister must have gone back to the Liu family. I’m afraid to go alone. Can you go with me? That’s our family’s life savings.”
She cried profusely, tears streaming down her face, making it seem very real.
Su Huihua didn’t expect something like this to happen.
But she had heard before that Zhao Dani was driven home, and no one was there to speak for her. It was reasonable for her to take such a risk now.
But stealing all the money and tickets from home to please someone else was truly despicable.
Bai Ruojiao just stared at Zhao Xiaohui. When her crying subsided and she started to hesitate, she said,
“It’s too late to chase after her now. We two women can’t do anything. Since it’s theft, we should just report it to the police.”
Zhao Xiaohui’s face changed when she heard this. Without thinking, she shouted, “No!”
This exclamation immediately drew their scrutinizing and suspicious gazes.
Zhao Xiaohui’s expression froze. She knew she had overreacted and quickly started crying again, “Third brother and Mom are still at the police station. If we cause trouble at the police station again, our reputation will be ruined. It doesn’t matter if I can’t get married, but Fourth brother is going to work at the factory. Don’t let it affect his promotion.”
Su Huihua frowned, thinking that what she said made sense.
Zhao Lao San and Zhao’s mother seemed to be in serious trouble, but they weren’t actually sentenced to prison. But if Zhao Dani’s theft was established, she would be imprisoned.
If Zhao Sihai wanted to get promoted in the future, he might be blocked at the political review stage.
Bai Ruojiao just looked at Zhao Xiaohui deeply, a slight smile playing on her lips.
“What you said makes sense. I was wrong. But just the two of us…”
Seeing that she was softening, Zhao Xiaohui’s eyes lit up. She urged, “We can’t bring anyone else. What if the Liu family gets angry and causes a fight between the two brigades?”
Bai Ruojiao nodded readily, “You’re right. I’ll go with you now. Sister Huihua, please take care of An’an for me.”
But Su Huihua quickly stopped her, “Wait, it’s too dangerous for just the two of you. Why don’t we go to the commune and find Sihai first?”
“No!” Zhao Xiaohui quickly spoke again. Seeing them looking at her, she forced a stiff smile and stammered, “If Fourth brother goes, he’s likely to fight. It’s better if we two women go first to check the situation. They wouldn’t dare to hit us.”
Bai Ruojiao’s eyes were deep. She was certain that Zhao Xiaohui was up to something.
She thought for a moment, guessing all the things Zhao Xiaohui might do. She was actually curious to see what she wanted to do.
“She’s right. I’ll go and check the situation first. Maybe there’s something else going on.”
Zhao Xiaohui’s face froze. For some reason, she felt that her words were a little off.
But then she thought, she couldn’t predict the future. It must be her overthinking. She urged again.
Bai Ruojiao then told An’an in the house, along with Su Huihua, and left with Zhao Xiaohui.
Su Huihua watched them leave, feeling uneasy. It was as if something was going to happen.
Bai Ruojiao followed Zhao Xiaohui, walking quickly. She was a little confused, “Why are we going through the back mountain?”
“This is a shortcut.” Zhao Xiaohui quickly explained, pulling her arm and walking forward, afraid that she would run away. But she didn’t notice that the person behind her was looking at her with increasingly cold eyes.
But when they reached the back mountain, nothing really happened. It seemed like they were just taking a shortcut.
They went around the mountainside and down the other side.
When they stood in front of a dilapidated house at the foot of the mountain, Bai Ruojiao seemed to “finally” realize something was wrong. She tried to pull her hand away, “Where is this? This isn’t the Liu family!”
Zhao Xiaohui curled her lips into a vicious smile, “This is the Liu family. Go in!”
She said, pushing open the door and forcefully throwing her inside.
Bai Ruojiao stumbled into the dilapidated and messy house. She looked up and saw Lin Qianqian standing opposite her, arms crossed.
She instantly looked “frightened,” looking at Lin Qianqian and then at Zhao Xiaohui, who had also come in and closed the door.
“You, what are you trying to do?”
Finally seeing her look so frightened and helpless, Lin Qianqian showed a hint of a gleeful smile.
“Good, the beauty has come to you. What are you waiting for?”
As soon as she finished speaking, a hunched-over, thin man with a lecherous smile jumped out from the pile of straw next to them.
When he saw Bai Ruojiao, his eyes lit up, and his eyes were filled with a disgusting look.
He rubbed his palms lecherously, his eyes bulging, “They say that Bai Zhiqing from the Nanyang brigade is extremely beautiful. Seeing her today, she’s truly extraordinary. Haha, I didn’t expect that I, Lao Fu, would have such good fortune.”
Lin Qianqian heard Lao Fu’s description. Although she was a little dissatisfied, she felt a sense of satisfaction just thinking about Bai Ruojiao’s miserable appearance later.
Zhao Xiaohui looked at Lao Fu with disgust, then at Bai Ruojiao, whose face had turned pale with fright. She felt very happy.
She said, “You can start. I’ll guard outside. When you’re done, I’ll call someone to come.”
She looked at Bai Ruojiao with malicious glee, “Bai Ruojiao, don’t blame me for this. It’s all Lin Qianqian’s idea. Who told you to always offend people? Don’t worry, when Fourth brother divorces you, I’ll find a stepmother for An’an. I will definitely take good care of him.”
She was about to go out.
But Bai Ruojiao suddenly said, “So you’re trying to stage another catch-in-the-act scene?”
Hearing her ask so calmly, both of them frowned.
Lin Qianqian just thought she was pretending to be calm and sneered, “Don’t pretend. No one will come to save you today. Here, even if you scream your lungs out, it’s useless.”
She glanced at Lao Fu, who was still lost in his lust. She felt disgusted by his behavior.
“Lao Fu, hurry up.” She said, and was about to go out as well.
Lao Fu responded with a chuckle and was about to approach Bai Ruojiao.
The two were about to reach out and open the door, but they heard Bai Ruojiao sigh, “It’s just like this. So boring.”
Then, there was a bang, followed by Lao Fu’s wail.
Both of them were startled and turned to look, but they felt a stinging pain as if they had been pricked by a needle in the middle of their necks.
The next moment, they saw Bai Ruojiao holding a thin, long golden needle in each hand. Both of them widened their eyes in surprise.
Then, when they realized that they couldn’t move, they were even more terrified.
They opened their mouths to speak, but found that they couldn’t make a sound. The fear in their eyes deepened.
Lao Fu, who was crawling out of the straw pile, clutching his waist, looked up, muttering curses. He saw this bizarre scene and shut his mouth. He couldn’t help but feel a little uneasy.
