Chapter 32: My Fiancée, Ye Sanqiu!
After leaving the office of Political Commissar Wang, it was almost time for lunch.
Ye Sanqiu’s stomach appropriately began to grumble.
Hearing the “gurgling” sound, Lu Sinian instinctively looked at Ye Sanqiu’s stomach.
Ye Sanqiu didn’t feel embarrassed at all.
She had a big appetite, and even though she had bought plenty of food before getting on the train, it still wasn’t enough for her.
Last night, the things in her bag were completely eaten up.
She didn’t have breakfast this morning, and by the time she got off the train, her stomach was already hungry.
It was already quite considerate of her stomach to wait until now to make a sound.
“I’m hungry, take me to eat!” she said calmly, almost with a sense of justified demand to Lu Sinian.
She had already accepted Lu Sinian as her fiancé, and it seemed that he didn’t mind her either. If nothing unexpected happened, they were going to get married and live together in the future.
Since they were family now, who would still be polite with him!
Besides, she had come all the way here to find him, so it was only natural for him to treat her to a meal!
Lu Sinian stared at Ye Sanqiu for a few seconds and suddenly smiled, the corners of his mouth curving upward.
No pretension, he liked it!
If it were another woman, she would have blushed and run away as soon as her stomach growled in front of a man.
But Ye Sanqiu? Not shy at all.
“I’ll take you to the military canteen to eat.” After the little commotion, the old bitch definitely wouldn’t cook. Even if she did, he wouldn’t dare bring her there.
Who knows if the old woman had added something to the food?
Luckily, before the old man left, he had left enough meal tickets. Since it was Ye Sanqiu’s first time coming to his place, he should take her to eat well as a welcome.
Ye Sanqiu didn’t care where they ate, as long as her stomach was filled.
“Then let’s go quickly!” she said.
With a shallow smile on his lips, Lu Sinian returned to his usual nonchalant demeanor.
He led the way, casually pointing out places they passed by.
Ye Sanqiu was more focused on food than his commentary, only responding vaguely.
Seeing that she wasn’t paying attention, Lu Sinian wisely stopped talking and quickened his pace.
When they reached the canteen, Lu Sinian took Ye Sanqiu to the counter to order.
“What would you like to eat?” Lu Sinian asked.
Ye Sanqiu liked to eat meat.
It was a new preference she developed after coming to this time period.
She never denied her stomach.
Since Lu Sinian asked, she didn’t intend to be polite.
“Braised pork, braised fish, stir-fried garlic sprouts with meat, and give me three bowls of rice,” she turned to Lu Sinian and asked, “How many bowls of rice do you want?”
Her appetite was large, and she hadn’t eaten all morning, so at least three bowls of rice were needed.
Lu Sinian was momentarily stunned, then laughed, “I’ll have… two bowls of rice.” The one bowl he originally planned to take was changed to two.
It wouldn’t be right for a woman to eat three bowls of rice, while he, a big man, only ate one.
He couldn’t let that happen!
The auntie at the counter had already been observing them when they appeared.
Lu Sinian came to the canteen frequently.
Naturally, the auntie recognized him.
She had worked at the canteen for nearly ten years but had never seen him bring a woman to eat before.
Unable to resist, she asked, “Xiao Lu, who is this lady?”
Lu Sinian smiled at the aunt and confidently introduced her, “This is my fiancée, Ye Sanqiu.”
The aunt’s face showed shock as she raised her voice, “Your fiancée? When did you get a fiancée? I never heard about it!”
Lu Sinian’s smile didn’t fade, “I’ve had a fiancée since I was two years old, I just keep a low profile and never mentioned it outside.”
Auntie: “…” Low profile? Well, indeed, very low profile.
Had a fiancée at two, and only mentioned it now at twenty.
That was certainly low-profile!
The aunt was curious but was about to ask more when she heard Lu Sinian order two more dishes and a soup.
The two dishes were vegetarian—eating only meat wasn’t good for the body.
They ordered five dishes and one soup.
In those days, portions were large, and even three grown men might not finish them.
The aunt couldn’t help but ask, “Is five dishes a bit much? Can you two finish it?”
Back then, leftovers weren’t allowed, and if they didn’t finish, they would be criticized.
Lu Sinian shrugged, “If we don’t finish, I’ll take it home when we leave!”
Either way, there would be no leftovers. He wasn’t going to let anyone criticize him.
He handed over the meal tickets.
The aunt had no choice but to keep quiet and go to the kitchen to report the dishes.
Lu Sinian led Ye Sanqiu to a seat, and they waited for their food.
When they arrived, it wasn’t yet noon, but when the first dish was ready, it was exactly twelve o’clock.
The once quiet canteen suddenly became filled with noisy sounds as the soldiers came in for lunch.
At first, no one noticed Lu Sinian and Ye Sanqiu, as they sat in a relatively quiet corner.
When the second dish was ready, the aunt called Lu Sinian to pick up the dishes, and that’s when people started to notice them.
Seeing Lu Sinian sitting with a woman, everyone looked over, their curiosity piqued.
Among them, Wei Zhiming, Wei Pingan’s father, had the most intense curiosity.
He was carrying his food and walked over.
While Ye Sanqiu was focused on her meal, Wei Zhiming’s eyes scanned her from head to toe. With a smile, he asked, “Si Nian, who is this lady?”
“My fiancée, Comrade Ye Sanqiu.” Without giving Wei Zhiming a chance to speak further, Lu Sinian quickly went to the window to pick up the dishes.
Wei Zhiming stood there for a while, then finally sat at the left side of Ye Sanqiu’s table.
Hearing someone sit down, Ye Sanqiu swallowed the food in her mouth, glanced up briefly, and smiled at Wei Zhiming, acknowledging his presence before continuing to focus on her meal.
It had to be said that the cooks in the military canteen were skilled. The braised pork was absolutely delicious, much better than what she had eaten in the country’s state-run restaurant.
The old lady hadn’t lied to her; the capital indeed was a place of luxury.
Wei Zhiming had many questions in mind, but seeing that Ye Sanqiu was too busy eating to spare him any attention, he couldn’t bring himself to ask.
He had planned to wait until Lu Sinian came back to ask more questions, but before he could, Ye Sanqiu’s eating habits stirred his own appetite.
He couldn’t help but start eating his meal, occasionally stealing glances at her.
When Lu Sinian brought the second dish to the table, Ye Sanqiu had already finished a bowl of rice and half a plate of braised pork.
The remaining bit of braised pork was purposely left for Lu Sinian.
As soon as the second dish was placed on the table, Ye Sanqiu resumed eating.
Lu Sinian didn’t even sit down before he went back to pick up the third and fourth dishes…
By the time all five dishes and the soup were served, Ye Sanqiu had finished three bowls of rice, and most of the dishes had been eaten too.
The remaining food was mostly left for Lu Sinian.
Having eaten three bowls of rice, she was about seven-tenths full.
She wasn’t in a hurry to continue eating now.
Instead, she took a bowl of soup and sipped it slowly.
By now, Wei Zhiming had finished his meal.
His appetite was especially good today. With the usual portion size, he felt somewhat unsatisfied after finishing it.
However, Ye Sanqiu’s capacity shocked him.
A young lady had eaten three large bowls of rice, and most of the dishes were gone too. After all that, she could still drink soup!
She could really eat—more than most men could!
At this point, he finally found the opportunity to ask his burning question.
“Si Nian, when did you get a fiancée? I never heard about it.”
Lu Sinian was eating, but Ye Sanqiu answered on his behalf.
“Since I was two years old!”
Wei Zhiming frowned, “Two years old?”
Ye Sanqiu briefly explained her engagement to Lu Sinian when they were children.
When Wei Zhiming heard that it was arranged by Lu Sinian’s mother, he surprisingly didn’t ask more questions.
After finishing a bowl of rice, Lu Sinian ate most of the food that Ye Sanqiu had left for him, but he couldn’t eat any more. He had a normal appetite.
There was still one bowl of rice, half a bowl of soup, and some leftover dishes on the table.
He didn’t want to push himself any further and decided to borrow a container from the kitchen staff to pack up the leftovers.
Seeing him get up, Ye Sanqiu asked, “Where are you going?”
“To borrow a bowl and take the leftovers with me.”
Ye Sanqiu asked, “Are you full?”
“Yeah.”
“No need to borrow a bowl, I can still eat some more!”
In the end, Ye Sanqiu finished all the remaining food.
After drinking the last bit of soup, she let out a satisfied burp.
Now, she was truly full!
Lu Sinian had known that Ye Sanqiu had a big appetite, but he didn’t expect it to be this large.
Her appetite could easily match that of three people.
He couldn’t help but wonder whether his family could afford to support her. Maybe he needed to work with Tiger Brother for a few more years to make sure.
Wei Zhiming had already gone silent.
The fact that a woman’s appetite was bigger than the soldiers in the army was hard to evaluate!
After Lu Sinian and Ye Sanqiu left, Wei Zhiming was still contemplating life!
He couldn’t help but wonder, did Ruan Xue know that she had found a wife for her son with an appetite as big as a cow’s?
Could it be that she chose the girl because of her big appetite?
Let’s put aside why Ruan Xue chose the daughter-in-law. Lu Sinian was already engaged, while Wei Pingan, that brat, was still single. Weren’t they the dragon and phoenix twins?
He still hadn’t found a partner? He couldn’t just let that be!
No, he needed to consider that brat’s marriage seriously!
Meanwhile, Wei Pingan, who was locked at home for reflection, sneezed loudly.
“Could it be that Lu Sinian is talking about me? I wonder if he listened to my advice and went to the Youth Office to clarify things about going down to the countryside!” he mumbled to himself.
He wanted to go out and check, but he couldn’t leave!
He was grounded again by the old man!
