Chapter 10: Face the Storm, Scumbag!**
Li Jiancheng had arrived, looking furious.
Because of Sheng Chunxiang’s chaos in the morning, his entire family had ended up in the hospital.
They had all been beaten badly, and besides applying medicine, they had to buy all sorts of pills to take.
The worst off was Qian Meili—she had fainted several times and had to be hospitalized for observation for three days!
Everyone blamed him for spoiling Sheng Chunxiang too much in the past, letting her run wild, which led to the whole family getting beaten up and utterly humiliated.
And just now, he had heard about how Sheng Chunxiang had beaten up Zhao Qingya and even dragged things to the police!
But what infuriated him the most was that he had run into Wang Xiaofang, who told him that Sheng Chunxiang had been spending time with Pei Qingyuan—eating at a state-owned restaurant, shopping at the supply and marketing cooperative, and even going to the public bathhouse together.
The old Sheng Chunxiang would never have done such things.
She used to have eyes only for him and was always afraid he would misunderstand her. She would never talk to other men.
Even when Pei Qingyuan tried to talk to her several times, she wouldn’t even look at him and would hurry away.
But now?
Right after their argument, she was out eating, drinking, and having fun with Pei Qingyuan!
Sheng Chunxiang set down her things and turned to him. “You think I’m making trouble?”
She pressed a hand to her forehead, looking exasperated.
She had been careless.
When she beat him up earlier, she hadn’t hit his head hard enough—his brain was still not functioning properly.
Li Jiancheng saw her face clearly for the first time and was momentarily stunned.
She was actually showing her face now?
Back when she first arrived at the courtyard, she had dressed almost the same way.
She had covered half her face with her bangs after he scolded her once, and for the next three years, she never changed.
Now, she had really grown bold, treating his words like they were nothing.
“Sheng Chunxiang, if you wanted to piss me off by deliberately finding a man to disgust me, fine.
But of all people, you had to pick Pei Qingyuan!
Have you forgotten everything I told you?
Pei Qingyuan is nothing but a little gangster, a rich playboy! He only plays around with women!”
She knew this perfectly well!
In the entire compound, the person he hated most was Pei Qingyuan.
That guy was good-looking, came from a well-off family, and back when they were in school, Li Jianjian had never won against him in any competition.
The most infuriating part? Even after Pei Qingyuan dropped out and started hanging around with street thugs, plenty of girls still liked him.
His damn grandmother and aunt even left him a good sum of money and ration tickets.
Meanwhile, he, a top student, was forced to live with a countryside bumpkin like Sheng Chunxiang just because his family was poor.
Sheng Chunxiang sneered, “You’re not as good-looking as Pei Qingyuan, your family isn’t as well-off as Pei Qingyuan’s, and you can’t beat him in competitions either. Of course, you don’t like him.”
“But there is one thing you are better at than Pei Qingyuan—you think you’re so damn important and shamelessly live off women.”
The Pei Qingyuan in the novel had real backbone. Even though he worked like a mule for the Lü family until he died, he never once tried to leech off a woman.
The so-called male lead, Li Jianjian, was the complete opposite. He refused to work hard, chose to live off a woman, and insisted on doing it shamelessly.
If it were a sixty-year-old rich widow inheriting this estate instead of Sheng Chunxiang, Li Jianjian would probably still find a way to eat his fill.
Hearing her words, Li Jianjian exploded with rage.
“Sheng Chunxiang! You’ve really let me down!
Everyone in the alley knows Pei Qingyuan is a spoiled brat, yet you insist on thinking he’s good and even got together with him!”
“If you think bringing Pei Qingyuan here to disgust me will make me care about you, you’re dreaming.”
“Let me warn you one last time—when he deceives you and takes everything from you, don’t come crying back to me. I don’t want a used-up woman!”
After saying that, he turned and strode off. At the doorway, he paused and smirked arrogantly.
“Without a clingy mutt blocking my way every day, I couldn’t be happier. You really think you’re some kind of treasure?”
Without another word, Li Jianjian strutted away.
At the same time, he began counting in his head: 10, 9—
In the past, every time he got mad like this, Sheng Chunxiang would panic. Before he even reached ten, she’d come running back to apologize, begging him to accept her money so he could spend it however he pleased.
“Li Jianjian, wait a moment.”
When he reached seven, Sheng Chunxiang called out.
Li Jianjian slightly lowered his head, the swelling on his face unable to hide his smug grin.
This little countryside bumpkin—no matter how she dressed up, her deep-seated devotion to him hadn’t changed.
She couldn’t even hold out for three seconds.
“What do you want to say?” Li Jianjian straightened his back and looked at her.
He had to admit, she looked stunning all dressed up. Especially that outfit—if only Meili could wear it instead.
In a little while, when she knelt and begged, he would find a way to make her willingly hand over her clothes.
The entire compound was watching Sheng Chunxiang’s house.
They had seen Li Jianjian go in and then saw Sheng Chunxiang chasing after him.
“I told you, I bet Sheng Chunxiang would beg for Li Jianjian’s forgiveness. I won!”
“Yeah… I didn’t expect it either. She held out for a few hours, but not even a full day.”
“Country women are all the same. Once they set their sights on a man, they never change.”
“Tsk, tsk, tsk… Li Jianjian sure got lucky. Sheng Chunxiang is gorgeous when she’s dressed up, and he already has a fiancée, Qian Meili.”
“Tsk, tsk, tsk… this is just like a landlord with his concubines.”
…
They whispered among themselves, their faces full of schadenfreude.
Meanwhile, Sheng Chunxiang walked up to Li Jianjian, a cold smile on her face, and slapped him across the face.
“Ah!”
Li Jianjian screamed, spinning midair before crashing heavily to the ground.
Before he could even let out a useless roar of rage, Sheng Chunxiang lunged at him and started punching and kicking him mercilessly.
“You damn idiot! A brain is a valuable thing—it’s a shame you don’t have one.”
“Pei Qingyuan is better than you in every way, you pathetic freeloader! You think you’re even worthy of comparing yourself to him?”
“Blabbering like an idiot, thinking I’d beg you for forgiveness and throw my money at you like before? Keep dreaming!”
“You called me a mutt? You’re not even worth dog shit!”
“I was in a great mood today, but you just had to ruin it. Now you have to pay the price!”
Face the storm, scumbag!
Li Jianjian rolled on the ground, unable to dodge a single punch or evade a single kick.
This had to be a dream.
He had come to find Sheng Chunxiang himself—shouldn’t she be grateful and overjoyed?
Something was wrong.
But what exactly was wrong? He couldn’t figure it out.
The bystanders who had been gloating earlier now had their jaws hanging open.
Sheng Chunxiang had chased after Li Jianjian not to reconcile—but to beat him up!
And she had even said Pei Qingyuan was great? That he was a hundred times better than Li Jianjian?
Were they all going crazy, or had the entire compound lost its mind?
Everyone knew Pei Qingyuan was just a spoiled playboy!
What was so great about him?!
Poor Li Jianjian—beaten up twice in one day!
Meanwhile…
At the Public Security Bureau.
As soon as Sheng Chunxiang praised the “good man” Pei Qingyuan, he was already drowning in tears.
“Woo woo woo woo… Officers, uncles, sirs, you have to stand up for me!”
“My mother died early, and after I got a stepmother, I also gained a stepfather.”
“That old widow wants to sell me off, forcing me to be a live-in son-in-law and sending me to die in some rural village!”
“She even forged a marriage certificate, her methods so sophisticated that if the girl I like hadn’t caught on, I’d already be on a train to the countryside!”
“My life is so miserable. What’s the point of living anymore? Xiangxiang, see you in the next life!”
As he cried, he dramatically collapsed to the ground, slapping his long legs in distress.
His three-point performance had the onlookers in tears.
If they weren’t crying?
Then it meant his acting wasn’t good enough—he had to work harder!
