Chapter 25
“Alright.”
Tang Zhou sighed, “I’ll wait for you here. Don’t wander too far.”
Tang Wan nodded eagerly, then rushed toward the mountain, imitating Lu Huaijing’s method by using a stick to probe the way ahead.
The outskirts of the mountain had already been picked clean by nearby villagers, leaving no wild vegetables or fruits.
Tang Wan couldn’t help but venture deeper into the forest. After all, isn’t it said that people who travel through time always find ginseng or lingzhi mushrooms?
After walking for half an hour without finding anything, a sudden flash of inspiration struck her.
She looked around to ensure no one was nearby and entered her special space. First, she filled a small cup with spiritual spring water. Then, she dashed into the mall section of her space, grabbed two electric batons from the equipment store, and reappeared in the forest.
The spiritual spring water had simple healing properties, but she wasn’t sure if the local wildlife would be attracted to it.
Tang Wan cheerfully sat on the ground and waited. However, nothing happened.
With a self-deprecating smile, she thought, Am I really so obsessed with catching something that I’m imagining things?
Just then, she faintly heard footsteps.
“No way, no way! Is something big really coming?”
Her eyes lit up as she quickly climbed the nearest tree. The scene before her left her stunned.
A flock of wild chickens, flapping their wings frantically, was rushing toward her.
Tang Wan quickly jumped down as the wild chickens scrambled for the spiritual spring water in her hands.
Each time a chicken got close, she swiftly stored it in her space. Worried that the chickens might cause chaos, she placed them directly in the storage area of the mall section.
She didn’t have time to count them because she soon spotted a group of rabbits hopping toward her.
Tang Wan continued collecting the rabbits while sorting them into a separate section of her space.
She couldn’t help but grin ear to ear. Jackpot!
Suddenly, the ground beneath her feet trembled.
Something big must be coming!
Gripping her electric baton tightly, Tang Wan ignored the straggling chickens and rabbits and cautiously peered ahead.
Oh boy, it’s a family of wild boars.
Two large wild boars and two medium-sized ones. Her hands trembled slightly as she held the electric baton.
A single misstep could lead to serious injury.
But staring at the black wild boars, she could almost taste the savory meat. In the past two days of her time-travel experience, she’d realized how valuable meat was to people here.
Determined, Tang Wan took a deep breath, gripped the electric baton with both hands, and confronted the charging boars.
With one hand targeting one large boar, she quickly stunned both and transported them into her space.
The two smaller boars were left bewildered. Where did the person and their parents go?
Tang Wan re-emerged from her space, stunned the smaller boars one by one, and stored them as well.
Afraid of attracting more predators, she didn’t dare linger and sprinted back toward the foot of the mountain.
After running for twenty minutes and ensuring she was far from the original spot, she decided to handle the spoils in her space.
When she entered, the four wild boars were still unconscious. The large ones weighed about 300 pounds each, while the smaller ones were around 100 pounds. Together, they totaled nearly 1,000 pounds.
Tang Wan could almost see money and meat waving at her.
She rushed into the supermarket section of her space, found boning knives and butchering tools, and swiftly got to work while the boars were still unconscious.
She didn’t want them to wake up and wreak havoc in her space.
Fortunately, she didn’t have to worry about the meat spoiling. She had already tested her space’s preservation properties when she first acquired it.
As for the wild pheasants and hares, Tang Wan didn’t have time to deal with them. After stepping out of her space, she quickly descended the mountain.
On the way, she stumbled upon a nest of wild pheasant eggs. This time, she didn’t store them in her space but wrapped them carefully in her clothes.
“Sis, you’re finally here!”
Tang Zhou had already gathered a basket full of wild vegetables. Not seeing Tang Wan earlier had made him anxious.
“Look what I found!”
Tang Wan revealed the pheasant eggs, making Tang Zhou’s eyes light up. He controlled his excitement and whispered, “Eggs?!”
“That’s right!”
Tang Wan happily placed the pheasant eggs one by one at the bottom of the basket, covering them with wild vegetables.
“Let’s go home!”
“Got it!”
Tang Zhou was so thrilled that he felt like he was floating as they walked together toward the Lu family’s house.
On the way, Tang Zhou said to Tang Wan, “While I was gathering vegetables, some kids came over to ask who I was.”
“What did you say?” Tang Wan asked, suddenly worried. “They didn’t bully you, did they?”
“I told them I’m Brother Lu’s brother-in-law.”
Tang Zhou grinned shyly. “As soon as they heard Brother Lu’s name, they ran off in a panic.”
It seemed Lu Huaijing’s reputation still lingered in the village, even though he hadn’t been around for years.
Laughing and chatting, the siblings soon arrived at the Lu family’s house. At this time, the family was already preparing a pot of radish and bone soup.
The delicious aroma drifted through the air, tempting many in the Stone Square Village to salivate.
Wang Dani was looking for Tang Wan and hurried over when she spotted her. “Third daughter-in-law, quick! The guests will be arriving soon. Go change your clothes, and come out when the third son calls for you.”
“Alright, Mother.”
Tang Wan gave Tang Zhou a look, signaling him to put the pheasant eggs away first, before quickly heading to her room.
She changed into an olive-green outfit, tied her hair into two braids, and even took out some cosmetics from her space.
After all, today was her wedding day, and she couldn’t afford to look unpolished.
She applied a subtle makeup look, hiding the scar on her forehead with concealer.
Looking at the radiant beauty in the mirror, Tang Wan was pleased and smiled softly.
Just as she finished, Lu Huaijing’s voice came from outside. “Wife, let me take you for a walk around the village.”
“Okay.”
Though Tang Wan didn’t understand the customs of this era, she smiled as she opened the door.
The courtyard was already filled with people, likely relatives of the Lu family.
At the forefront stood Lu Huaijing, wearing a verdant military uniform that accentuated his tall and handsome figure.
Tang Wan was stunned by the sight.
In truth, Lu Huaijing was equally stunned upon seeing his beautiful bride.
For a moment, silence enveloped the courtyard until someone exclaimed:
“Is this the third son’s wife? She looks like a fairy! So beautiful!”
“Lu Huaijing is so lucky!”
“No wonder he turned down Lu Hongying, the village head’s daughter. His wife is stunning.”
The crowd’s reactions were a mix of amazement and envy as they gazed at Tang Wan.
But Tang Wan didn’t pay much attention to them, as Lu Huaijing helped her onto a bicycle decorated with red fabric.
He leaned in and spoke softly, “Since your family isn’t nearby, we’re skipping the formal bride-fetching ceremony. Mother suggested taking you for a ride around the village, so everyone knows we’re married and that I have a wife now.”
“Whatever you say.”
Tang Wan blushed, her delicate face glowing like fine rouge, capturing the attention of many young men nearby.
Standing among the crowd, Lu Hongying felt a sharp pang in her head as she witnessed the dazzling scene. Suddenly, she rushed out and shouted:
“Huaijing, you can’t marry her!”
