Chapter 78
“Don’t be so polite. Didn’t the doctor say that Sister-in-law Cuiying needs to rest? Why are you bringing her here?”
Tang Wan looked at Captain Cheng disapprovingly, ignoring the troublemaking Cheng Xiaoyue.
Cuiying quickly said, “I wanted to come. If it weren’t for you, I might have lost my baby.”
She was filled with gratitude for Tang Wan. If Tang Wan hadn’t noticed that something was wrong with her, she might have thought it was just a simple stomachache.
In her hometown, a stomachache could be treated with rest. She might not have even gone to the hospital.
“Jumping into the river while pregnant, you’re something else.”
Cheng Xiaoyue’s words were always so inappropriate. Seeing her look at Cuiying with disdain, Tang Wan could imagine how she usually bullied her.
Sure enough, Cuiying’s face turned even paler because of Cheng Xiaoyue’s words. She lowered her eyelids and didn’t say anything.
Captain Cheng looked coldly at Cheng Xiaoyue. “Why did I bring you here? To apologize?!”
He had just brought his wife back when he heard that his sister had gone to pick a fight with Deputy Commander Lu’s wife again.
It was driving him crazy!
He shouldn’t have brought her to the army in the first place. Every time he went on a mission, she caused trouble.
This time, Captain Cheng was determined to send her away.
“If I apologize, will you not kick me out, Brother?”
Cheng Xiaoyue pouted pitifully, as if they were bullying her.
Captain Cheng’s face was dark. “If you don’t apologize, I won’t have a sister like you anymore!”
This time, he was determined to discipline his unruly sister.
Sure enough, hearing Captain Cheng say this, Cheng Xiaoyue cowered. She reluctantly lowered her head and said to Tang Wan,
“Sorry.”
Her voice was as thin as a mosquito’s whine. Tang Wan rolled her eyes. “I can’t hear you. What did you say?”
“Be sincere!”
Captain Cheng glared at Cheng Xiaoyue again. Cheng Xiaoyue was so angry that she almost cried. She closed her eyes and said,
“Sister-in-law, I’m sorry. I was being unreasonable before. You’re generous. Don’t mind me.”
After saying that, she ran away, as if a dog was chasing her. She looked very embarrassed.
Tang Wan: …
She never said she forgave her.
Perhaps it was the first time she had seen Cheng Xiaoyue so embarrassed. Cuiying curiously stared at her back.
Tang Wan ignored Captain Cheng in front of her and reminded Cuiying, “Sister-in-law Cuiying.
You see, she’s not as scary as you think. A mother is strong. You’re about to be a mother. You can’t let others bully you anymore.”
“Does she often bully you at home?”
Captain Cheng frowned. He was often away from home and hadn’t paid attention to his wife and sister’s relationship.
Hearing this, Cuiying shed tears of grievance. Her nose was sour, and she felt a little embarrassed.
“We’ll talk about it when we go back.”
“Okay, tell me everything when we go back.”
Captain Cheng stuffed the malt extract and fruit into Lu Huaijing’s hands. “Deputy Commander, this is a gift to thank Sister-in-law for saving my wife.”
Seeing his determination, Lu Huaijing didn’t insist on refusing. He said softly,
“It’s not easy for a woman to be pregnant. Take good care of your wife.”
“Yes!”
Captain Cheng saluted, bent down, and carried Cuiying back to their courtyard.
In the night, Tang Wan noticed that Lu Huaijing’s expression wasn’t good. She looked at him with confusion.
“What’s wrong?”
“Zhouzhou said you can’t swim.”
Lu Huaijing’s voice was a little tense. Tang Wan’s heart skipped a beat. She argued,
“I learned from my classmates in high school. Zhouzhou is in school. How would he know if I can swim?”
“Wife.”
Lu Huaijing put his arm around her shoulders. “Next time you encounter something like this, can you please take care of yourself a little more?”
“Then I ask you, if you were in my shoes, would you have saved her?”
Tang Wan looked up at Lu Huaijing. There was a faint moonlight tonight, and she could see Lu Huaijing’s simple outline.
A look of helplessness quickly crossed his stern face. “I would have been confident.”
Yes, he was a soldier.
No matter when or where, as long as people needed him, he would rise to the challenge.
But thinking about his wife getting hurt, he didn’t want her to be so selfless either.
“I was confident too.”
Tang Wan snorted. Although she wasn’t a good person, she would occasionally do things like helping others in need.
Seeing her proudly walk into the house, Lu Huaijing glanced at his empty hands and laughed helplessly.
When he returned to the main room with the malt extract, Tang Wan had already gone to bed. She was lying on her back, facing away from him, silent, as if she was asleep.
Lu Huaijing knew she wasn’t asleep yet. He took off his shoes and got into bed. He hugged her from behind.
“Wife, I was wrong. I shouldn’t have questioned you.”
To be honest, it was his attitude that had upset his wife.
“Lu Huaijing, you’re allowed to be a good person, but I’m not allowed to do good deeds?”
Tang Wan didn’t turn around to look at him. She just stared silently at the wall beside the bed. She still didn’t regret saving Cuiying.
“Yes, I was too bossy!”
He reflected seriously. He should discuss things with his wife properly.
“Forget it. I’m not that petty.”
Tang Wan’s lips curved into a smile. Sometimes, women were strange. When they were angry, all they needed was for him to patiently coax them.
She turned over to face him. She felt much better.
“Yes, my wife is the most generous.”
Lu Huaijing buried his head in her neck. His breath tickled her, but Tang Wan thought about how he was leaving tomorrow.
“What time are you leaving tomorrow morning?”
“Five thirty in the morning.”
Lu Huaijing’s movements paused. For the first time, he felt particularly reluctant to leave.
“Then I’ll see you off in the morning.”
Tang Wan wasn’t heartless. She saw how good Lu Huaijing was to her.
She would naturally repay him by being a considerate little wife.
“No need. You should get some rest.”
Lu Huaijing’s hand tightened slightly. “If you feel sorry for me, just give me a good night tonight.”
Uh…
Before Tang Wan could refuse, he had already kissed her.
They were like fish and water. Lu Huaijing had transformed from a shy young man into a married man.
He skillfully made Tang Wan forget what she wanted to say. He gently led her through the waves.
After a vigorous workout, Tang Wan was so tired that she could barely keep her eyes open.
“Lu Huaijing, are you a dog? You have a mission tomorrow. You can’t go crazy anymore.”
“Don’t worry, wife. I know my limits.”
Lu Huaijing gently wiped her down. His eyes darkened. He wanted to say something else, but Tang Wan had already fallen fast asleep.
It seemed that his wife was really tired.
Lu Huaijing washed the enamel basin and hugged his fragrant and soft wife to sleep.
This time, he followed her wishes. He didn’t make a fuss. They went to bed early and slept soundly.
Because she was worried about Lu Huaijing leaving, Tang Wan woke up early. It was still dark outside.
Tang Wan squinted and reached for the flashlight and watch next to her.
Five o’clock.
