Chapter 93
Tang Wan’s gaze fell blankly on the dusty thing, unable to tell what it was.
The shape was a bit like a snuff bottle.
She didn’t care what it was, she hurriedly said, “I like it, I like it, Grandpa, count it all together.”
Since the old man asked her, it definitely wasn’t as dilapidated as it looked.
“Hmm.”
The old man’s attitude was still a bit cold. He weighed the books Tang Wan had chosen and said casually, “Eight cents will do.”
“Thank you, Grandpa.”
Tang Wan handed him eight cents and took out a pear from her basket and placed it on the table.
“I’ll come back again next time!”
She said this and left with a cheerful step. The old man took the pear, snorted lightly.
“She’s actually grateful.”
He carefully put the pear away in his bag, intending to take it back for his wife to eat.
Then he sat back in his rocking chair, his eyes half-closed, lazy and casual.
Tang Wan left the scrap recycling station and rode her bicycle back to the courtyard.
On the deserted road, she and her bicycle went directly into her space.
She was very curious about the dusty thing. She really wanted to know what was inside.
So she took some water and carefully wiped off the dust on the outside.
The dusty thing was wiped clean, revealing a beautiful painting.
It was indeed a snuff bottle.
And it was a “Three Mothers Teaching Their Sons” snuff bottle!
It wasn’t a priceless treasure, but it was definitely a collectible with high value.
Tang Wan’s heart pounded. She held it carefully, afraid of dropping it and breaking it.
After cleaning it thoroughly, Tang Wan then used a handkerchief to gently wipe away the remaining water.
The old man clearly knew what it was, and he even gave it to her. Tang Wan instantly thought the old man was a good person.
Putting away the snuff bottle, which had almost made her jaw drop, Tang Wan came out of her space happily, humming a song as she rode her bicycle.
But when she arrived at the courtyard, she heard someone arguing. Zhang Hongyan saw her and waved to her.
“Big Sister, don’t rush back, Cheng Xiaoyue is going crazy.”
“Ah?”
Tang Wan was stunned. Thinking of the pregnant Xu Cuiying, she said, “Cuiying is pregnant, she doesn’t know how to be quiet at all.”
If something happened to the baby, her husband and wife would go crazy.
“Cuiying asked me to call the women’s federation, they’re dealing with their dispute now.”
Zhang Hongyan rolled her eyes, “She’s offended her brother and sister-in-law now. She won’t have any family support in the courtyard from now on.”
“What’s the argument about?”
Tang Wan frowned, feeling a little worried. Zhang Hongyan rolled her eyes in disdain.
“A little sister-in-law asking her sister-in-law for a dowry, she’s got a big face.”
Tang Wan: …
She really did have a big face, how could she even ask that?
“Sister-in-law knows you and Cuiying are close, don’t worry, the women’s federation will protect her.”
Zhang Hongyan knew Tang Wan’s thoughts. She pulled Tang Wan along, for her own good.
Tang Wan naturally wouldn’t refuse her kindness. Until the sound of the argument gradually subsided, they headed home. Tang Wan parked her bicycle in the courtyard, and from afar, she saw Cheng Xiaoyue jumping up and down in the courtyard across the way.
But with the women’s federation there, she couldn’t do anything to Xu Cuiying, so she could only leave in a huff.
“Sis.”
Tang Zhou was catching earthworms to feed his two chicks. Tang Wan took him inside.
“Look what Sister brought you.”
She took out two small cakes from her basket. They were desserts from the space mall.
Worried that Tang Zhou would notice something was wrong, Tang Wan had already removed the packaging.
Even so, the exquisite appearance made Tang Zhou’s eyes widen. He exclaimed.
“They look delicious?”
“Eat them, one for each of us.”
Tang Wan felt that eating desserts could make people feel better. If it wasn’t too outlandish, she would even want to have a cup of milk tea.
“So sweet.”
Tang Zhou squinted his eyes in satisfaction, showing the innocent look of a child his age.
Tang Wan couldn’t help but laugh. Seeing his eyes glance outside, she instantly understood.
“If you want to share with Shengli, call him over.”
“I don’t want to.”
Tang Zhou mumbled stubbornly, “It was you who told me to call him over.”
He quickly ran out of the courtyard. His awkwardness made Tang Wan find him strangely cute.
She finished her own cake in a few bites and then went into the small kitchen.
The siblings had a simple lunch and dinner. In between, Tang Wan went to her space and planted all the fruit trees she had gotten today.
At night, Tang Wan was about to go to her space to dig a fish pond.
The courtyard door was knocked. Through the door, Tang Wan saw Xu Cuiying standing outside, holding some fruit.
“Wǎnwǎn, my husband is back. He wants to talk to Cheng Xiaoyue and Duan Yingzhang. I really don’t want to face Cheng Xiaoyue, can I come over to your place?”
“Of course, come in.”
Tang Wan immediately opened the courtyard door and welcomed her in. Occasionally, Cheng Yingzhang’s roar could be heard from across the way.
The two of them ignored it. Xu Cuiying placed a few pears of average quality on the table.
“These are what Lao Cheng exchanged from the villagers. I brought a few for you to try.”
“You’re pregnant, save them for yourself.”
Tang Wan liked her and Zhang Hongyan, so she took a pear, peeled it, and handed it to Xu Cuiying.
“Wǎnwǎn, you’re so thoughtful. I used to eat the skin and flesh together.”
Country girls were always in a hurry to work, they weren’t so particular.
“I don’t usually do this, it’s just because you’re pregnant.”
Tang Wan awkwardly waved her hand, almost revealing her refined side.
Fortunately, Zhang Hongyan’s focus was never on this. She sighed softly.
“Wǎnwǎn, I’m actually quite envious of you. We’ve all met the deputy regiment leader’s sister. Although she has a bit of a fiery temper, she’s protective. As long as she accepts you as her sister-in-law, she’ll definitely be on your side.”
Tang Wan: ???
Lu Huai’li has a fiery temper?
Tang Wan was confused. Lu Huai’li had sat here for a while that day, and she didn’t feel that at all.
Thinking about it, Tang Wan felt that as her aunt-in-law, she should go visit Lu Huai’li’s child sometime.
Perhaps her expression was too obvious. Xu Cuiying couldn’t help but laugh, “Before you came, I happened to see Lu Huai’li arguing with a sister-in-law. She’s quite fierce.”
Perhaps thinking of Cheng Xiaoyue, she whispered to Tang Wan, “Wǎnwǎn, little sisters-in-law can be scary. If you say too much, you’re afraid of making the husband’s family angry, but if you don’t say anything, she might bully you.”
She wondered if Lu Huai’li would bully Tang Wan.
“No one can bully me.”
Tang Wan smiled, her eyes crinkling. She saw Xu Cuiying taking out yarn from her small bag to knit.
She was full of curiosity, “Are you knitting for the baby?”
“Yes.”
Xu Cuiying’s eyes were gentle, “I used to knit for Lao Cheng every year, naturally, I can’t leave out the baby this year.”
Tang Wan subconsciously thought of the tall and strong Lu Huaijing. Her heart skipped a beat.
“Cuiying, can you teach me?”
“Want to knit for the deputy regiment leader?”
Xu Cuiying’s teasing gaze made Tang Wan blush. She stubbornly said:
“I want to knit for myself and Zhouzhou.”
Knitting for Lu Huaijing would be a bonus.
