Chapter 95
“Why are you here?”
Tang Wan felt a little weak and relaxed instantly, leaning against Lu Huaijing’s embrace.
“I just finished my mission and saw you walking towards the river from afar. I was about to call you, but you jumped into the river. I was scared to death. What are you doing?”
Lu Huaijing’s eyes were full of suspicion. The two of them were in the middle of the river. Tang Wan rolled her eyes, annoyed.
“I just wanted to catch a couple of fish to eat.”
In the darkness, she had secretly sprinkled some fish food. When the fish came over, she swung her dagger.
Luckily, she actually caught a fish.
“Let’s talk about it when we get back to shore.”
Lu Huaijing looked at her deeply, and took her back to the shore, swimming with a strong, agile stroke.
Tang Wan was still holding the dagger with the fish on it, swimming slowly behind Lu Huaijing.
She knew Lu Huaijing was definitely overthinking.
But how could she explain?
The shore wasn’t far. By the time Tang Wan had slowly swam to the shore, Lu Huaijing had already climbed up.
He extended his large, bony hand and pulled Tang Wan up.
“Go change your clothes quickly.”
Lu Huaijing handed her the basket by the shore. It contained the clean clothes Tang Wan had brought.
She had also chosen a good spot, at the foot of the mountain. The mountain was dark and there was no one around.
“What about you?”
Tang Wan saw Lu Huaijing squeezing the water out of his clothes. His hard face softened slightly.
“I’ll change back later.”
“Then wait for me.”
Tang Wan handed the fish to Lu Huaijing and quickly went into the woods nearby. She quickly changed into a new set of clothes.
When she came out, Lu Huaijing was sitting by the river, casually patting the fish with his dagger.
“Going back?”
Tang Wan felt a little guilty as she put her wet clothes in the basket. She didn’t dare to look at Lu Huaijing.
Luckily, it was night, and Lu Huaijing couldn’t see clearly. He said in a husky voice,
“Why did you jump into the river? What made you want to take your own life?”
Seeing her jump in, Lu Huaijing almost went crazy.
He jumped out of the car and ran towards this place. Luckily, she was fine.
“How could I?”
Tang Wan raised an eyebrow in surprise, “I’m perfectly fine, why would I take my own life? I told you, I wanted to catch a fish to improve our lives.”
She had calmed down now. Even if Lu Huaijing was smart, he shouldn’t be able to guess that she had a space.
She just had to deny it.
Lu Huaijing tightened his jawline, his dark eyes fixed on her. Tang Wan felt a little uneasy.
She suddenly approached him, her arm around his, “Lu Huaijing, don’t you trust me?”
Her voice was soft and sweet, her eyes clear. It instantly hit his heart.
Lu Huaijing’s Adam’s apple bobbed. He frowned, “I’m wet, don’t get yourself wet.”
“I don’t mind.”
Tang Wan suddenly hugged his arm. In the night, he could even clearly see her long eyelashes fluttering gently.
Thump, thump, thump…
It was the feeling of someone named Tang Wan falling into his heart. Lu Huaijing couldn’t control himself anymore and pulled her up and put her aside.
“I trust you. You just want to eat fish, right? Wait!”
With that, he dove into the river with a strong stroke. His agility made Tang Wan think back to their days in bed together.
He seemed particularly fierce.
Tang Wan’s heart fluttered. She picked up the fish on the ground and put it in the bucket. She also secretly checked the fish pond in her space.
Good, there were quite a few fish in the pond, big and small, and they weren’t all the same kind.
There were even shrimp.
Tang Wan smiled slightly. A fish was thrown at her side, it was Lu Huaijing.
This guy seemed to be determined, he threw over a dozen fish in a row. Tang Wan put them in the bucket and shouted:
“Enough, Lu Huaijing.”
Sure enough, no more fish were thrown. Lu Huaijing climbed out of the river, his voice hoarse.
“If you want to eat fish in the future, I’ll catch them. You’re not allowed to go into the water alone again.”
“I know.”
Seeing that he was still angry, Tang Wan obediently agreed. Lu Huaijing’s heart softened a little.
He domineeringly took the bucket and basket from Tang Wan’s hand and strode ahead.
Tang Wan followed behind him. He was tall and had long legs, so he walked very fast. Tang Wan had to jog to keep up.
When he turned to look at her, he noticed that Tang Wan was out of breath from running. He chuckled.
“Spoiled.”
He said this, but he slowed down his pace to match hers. They walked back to the courtyard, one in front of the other.
Luckily, they didn’t encounter anyone at this hour. Lu Huaijing was familiar with the gatekeeper, who didn’t even ask any questions.
When they got home, Tang Wan immediately pushed him to wash up first, “I boiled some water in the kitchen, go wash up first.”
“Okay.”
Lu Huaijing was wet all over. He didn’t refuse and took the hot water to the small room.
Tang Wan looked at the fish in the bucket. Four or five of them had already been killed by Lu Huaijing.
There were still seven or eight that seemed to be alive. Tang Wan simply left two in the bucket to keep them alive.
She killed all the rest. This weather wasn’t good for keeping them fresh, so she simply marinated them and started smoking them.
She smoked them slowly over a low fire. When Lu Huaijing came out, she told him to watch the fire and rushed to the small room to wash up.
When she came out after washing up, the fish had already been smoked into shape. She put them in the cabinet.
Tomorrow, she would put them out in the sun to dry, and they would soon become dried fish.
Seeing her busy in the kitchen, a look of admiration appeared in Lu Huaijing’s eyes.
He had seen the changes in their home since he returned, and he felt guilty for misunderstanding her earlier.
“Wife, do you need me to help?”
“Are you hungry?”
Tang Wan realized that he had just come back from a mission and must be starving.
Lu Huaijing was about to say he wasn’t hungry, but his stomach grumbled.
Gurg…
“I just saved some noodles for breakfast tomorrow. I’ll cook some for you.”
Tang Wan, taking advantage of Lu Huaijing’s lack of attention, opened the bottom cabinet and took out a pack of noodles from the space mall’s supermarket.
Lu Huaijing didn’t suspect anything, and said softly, “Thank you, wife.”
Tang Wan had filled the cabinet with so many things, Lu Huaijing couldn’t possibly remember everything.
“Go out and pull some scallions from the field.”
After sending Lu Huaijing out, Tang Wan quickly made the noodles. Soon, a bowl of fragrant egg noodles was ready.
Lu Huaijing’s stomach was rumbling, and he couldn’t help but swallow.
“Eat.”
Tang Wan placed the noodles in front of Lu Huaijing. There were two poached eggs nestled in the noodles, and the green scallions added to the appetite.
“Aren’t you eating?”
Lu Huaijing slurped the noodles. Habit was a terrible thing.
He had only eaten a few meals cooked by his wife, and now he felt like the food outside was like pig food.
“I’m not hungry, and I brushed my teeth. You eat and clean up the kitchen, I’ll go back to the room.”
Tang Wan washed her oily hands, yawned sleepily, and went back to the room.
She thought Lu Huaijing would take a long time, but after only ten minutes, he came in, clean and refreshed.
Tang Wan had just changed into her pajamas and lay down. He quickly lay down next to her and pulled her into his arms.
“Wife, I’m sorry, I misunderstood you.”
