Chapter 49: The Love Gu
Feng Moheng sat quietly by the bed, his gaze fixed on Qingyi, who lay naked beside him.
She was still fast asleep, her face serene.
Feng Moheng lowered his lashes, the darkness in his eyes deepening, as if shrouded in dark clouds.
The events of last night kept replaying in his mind.
Yet, Feng Moheng felt an inexplicable strangeness about it all.
For the past month, he had only been able to experience intimacy with Qingyi.
The last time he had been intimate with Qingyi was on the night of the full moon a month ago.
Last night, before being intimate with Qingyi, he seemed to have experienced the same thing as last time—a clouded mind.
But upon waking up the next day, the memories of last night were vividly clear.
He seemed to lose consciousness every full moon and be intimate with Qingyi.
Some time ago, he had sent someone to the Western Regions to find a gu master, and they had arrived in Qianjing two days prior.
However, after careful consideration, Feng Moheng felt that the Residence of Prince Lingyang might not be safe, and there might be spies lurking.
Therefore, he had not brought the gu master directly to the residence.
His current physical condition was too strange.
Not only was he only responsive to one woman, but at particular times, he would unconsciously become intimate with her.
Feng Moheng was almost certain that his body had either been poisoned or had been afflicted with a gu.
It seemed he had to meet the gu master today.
Feng Moheng lowered his head, gazing at Qingyi, who was still asleep.
She had served him since she was young, for seven years now.
When she first arrived, she was only eleven years old.
Was Qingyi a malicious spy or an unwitting victim?
Feng Moheng couldn’t determine it yet.
He took a deep breath, got up, and silently left the room.
Feng Moheng hastily left the Residence of Prince Lingyang and headed toward the courtyard on the city’s edge where the gu master resided.
The courtyard was extremely quiet.
Feng Moheng stepped inside and saw the strangely dressed gu master.
He wore a dark gray robe, so large that it almost completely covered his figure, revealing only a mysterious face.
The two sat opposite each other at a stone table in the courtyard, quietly drinking tea.
Feng Moheng spoke first, his voice tinged with urgency. “Gu master, can you tell if there’s a gu in my body?”
The gu master put down his teacup.
Calmly, he said, “Prince, you must explain your recent physical condition in detail before I can make an accurate judgment.”
Feng Moheng calmed himself and described his unusual symptoms to the gu master.
Once Feng Moheng finished, the gu master nodded slightly.
“Your Highness’s condition is indeed very similar to the effects of the love gu from our Western Regions.”
Feng Moheng frowned, puzzled. “Love gu?”
“Yes, the love gu is a parent-child gu.”
“Based on your description, the child gu should be in your body, and the parent gu is in the maid you mentioned.”
The gu master explained calmly.
Feng Moheng’s brow remained furrowed.
He pressed, “Can it be cured?”
The gu master picked up his teacup and took a sip.
Slowly, he said, “The effects of the love gu only last four months because the child gu can only survive for four months after separating from the parent gu.”
“Your Highness only needs to wait patiently.”
Feng Moheng muttered, “Four months? Doesn’t that mean there are still three months left?”
He asked again, “Is there a way to remove the gu earlier?”
“In Miaojiang, there’s a very precious gu, called the blood gu.”
“This gu is considered the nemesis of all gu. If you can obtain it, you can suppress the love gu and completely break free from its control.”
“Then how can I obtain this blood gu?”
Feng Moheng naturally wanted to remove the gu quickly.
Otherwise, whether facing Shen Yuling or Liu Jingyi, Feng Moheng felt uneasy.
The gu master shook his head, looking helpless.
“The blood gu is a rare gu possessed only by the royal family of Miaojiang.”
“Currently, there’s only one left in the Miaojiang royal family, and another one is in the palace.”
“Two years ago, the Miaojiang royal family presented a blood gu to Emperor Qianyuan.”
Feng Moheng clenched his fists.
Would his uncle agree if he asked him for the blood gu?
Feng Moheng paused and continued, “Can’t I just kill the woman where the parent gu is residing? Perhaps that would break the love gu’s hold.”
Upon hearing this, the gu master’s expression turned serious.
He said solemnly, “No, all parent-child gu have their characteristics. Once the host of the parent gu dies, the host of the child gu will also die.”
Feng Moheng’s face instantly turned grim.
So, Qingyi and he were now bound together in life and death?
Didn’t this mean that if someone wanted him dead, they only needed to kill Qingyi?
But what was the purpose of the person behind this in giving him the love gu?
Feng Moheng couldn’t understand.
If Qingyi were innocent and someone was using the gu to harm him, it had been a month since he and Qingyi had been bound together. If those people wanted to act, they should have already done so, yet he was still alive.
The only reason he could think of was that Qingyi was infatuated with him and had given him the love gu.
But Qingyi had served him for so many years; why would she do this now?
And where did she get this gu?
Feng Moheng had many questions, but he had confirmed that he had indeed been afflicted with a gu.
Upon returning to the Residence of Prince Lingyang, Feng Moheng immediately ordered someone to submit a request to see the Emperor.
In Weiyang Palace, Feng Moheng stood in the hall.
He explained his purpose to Quan Minghe.
However, Feng Moheng didn’t reveal the type of gu he had or its effects.
Quan Minghe, sitting on the dragon throne, scoffed inwardly.
He had come to the mastermind himself to seek an antidote; it was truly amusing.
“The blood gu was used by the Imperial Medical Office last year to treat the hidden illness I had contracted during my campaigns.”
“Currently, there is no blood gu in the palace.”
Quan Minghe said calmly.
Feng Moheng pursed his lips.
Did he have to wait another three months?
“If so, I will take my leave.”
Feng Moheng bowed respectfully and turned to leave.
His Residence of Prince Lingyang was full of leaks.
He, a prince, had been secretly afflicted with a gu without even noticing.
Wouldn’t he also be completely unaware if someone secretly poisoned him?
Quan Minghe watched Feng Moheng’s back, his eyes deep.
The blood gu was indeed in the palace.
But…
Before Shen Yuling entered the palace, he would not allow Feng Moheng to recover.
He would temporarily prevent Shen Yuling from entering the palace; Feng Moheng’s impotence was reassuring.
Some women were indeed addictive.
But as an emperor, Quan Minghe lacked nothing in self-control and endurance.
