Chapter 11
Before Song Chunshi could ask Alan about the Passerby Girl he mentioned, they both received a notification on their light brains at the same time.
“All new students, report to the first training ground within 30 minutes.”
Alan looked at the location map that came with the notification and looked nervous, “What do we do? The first training ground is 15 kilometers from here. We won’t have time to get there. We’ll be punished for being late!”
The military academy was huge, and they didn’t allow unregistered hover cars to enter. They could only rely on their own two legs. 15 kilometers in 30 minutes, how was that possible!
He had heard from his sister that the military academy instructors would deliberately set difficult tasks to intimidate the new students. Was this the start of it?
Song Chunshi’s reaction was very calm. She just asked him, “How’s your physical fitness? No heart conditions or anything?”
Alan was puzzled. “I’m B-level physical fitness. I’m very healthy. What’s wrong?”
“That’s fine then.”
Song Chunshi nodded, lowered her head and checked her shoes, making sure everything was normal. “Let’s go.”
“Wh-” Alan was about to ask when he was hit by a gust of wind. He quickly closed his mouth.
He realized that he was being pulled by the girl. His legs were moving forward involuntarily. He was almost off the ground!
The scenery around him was flying backward. He had never run this fast!
Today was the new student registration day. Song Chunshi was pulling Alan, as if she was pulling a large kite. They passed by a few new students who were running as hard as they could.
The people who were overtaken widened their eyes and watched this strange combination, wanting to catch up but unable to. They could only gasp for breath, “Are they… human?”
How could they run so fast while carrying a burden? Didn’t they want to give others a chance?
Also, that chubby guy was so lucky!
Inside the first training ground, several instructors stood together, occasionally glancing at the time, smiling, “Do you think this year’s new students can break the record?”
“There are a few A-level physical fitness students. It should be possible.”
One instructor nudged Carol with his elbow, “The little dark horse you brought back, they say her physical fitness is S-level. Is that true?”
“It’s S-level.” Carol corrected him.
“It’s all the same.”
S, S-, and S+ are all technically S-level, they are just ranked within that range.
The girl from the barren planet was getting attention because of her outstanding strength. It was a pity that her psychic power was only E-level, but her physical fitness reaching S-level was also very rare.
In the level division, S and above are considered special.
Because physical fitness or psychic power below A-level can be improved to A-level through genetic enhancement, physical training, and eating star beast meat, but very few people can reach S-level. The gap between A and S is too large. It’s not something ordinary people can bridge through hard work.
“With her strength, breaking the record is definitely no problem. It’s a pity that there are two new students with S-level psychic powers this year. Your little dark horse’s limelight is destined to be overshadowed by them.”
For the same S-level, psychic power geniuses are more valued because they can control mechas. As for S-level physical fitness, even if their bodies are stronger, can they really compete with mechas?
Although in the past one or two hundred years, there have been people who have proposed that human psychic powers have reached their limit and that physical fitness has more potential than psychic power. People who have honed their physical skills to the extreme might be stronger than the most advanced mechas. But many people considered this statement to be nonsense. Because no one has ever appeared who has honed their physical skills to the extreme, while the strength of mechas is undeniable.
Carol raised an eyebrow and said, “Who overshadows who’s limelight, we’ll just have to wait and see.”
Before he met the girl, he might have had the same opinion as his colleagues. But now, he always felt that the girl would shock everyone later.
“There are new students coming.” An instructor reminded.
The other instructors also noticed, “It sounds like two people, but…”
Why are their footsteps so strange?
One is fast and powerful, the other is light and chaotic. Logically speaking, the students who can get here so quickly should be strong. What’s with the completely out-of-rhythm footsteps?
With questions in their minds, the instructors turned their attention to the entrance of the training ground.
Soon, they saw one, no, two figures running towards them.
The girl running in front was agile and didn’t look tired at all. Her face was only slightly flushed. She had one hand behind her, pulling the other boy like a kite, and the boy was almost flying through the air as she pulled him along!
Song Chunshi stepped into the training ground, saw the instructors at a glance, pulled Alan and ran towards them, stopping in front of the instructors.
Because she didn’t know what to say, she just stood there silently. Alan couldn’t stand still at all. He was completely limp and slumped down. She simply grabbed his collar and lifted him up.
Looking at their strange posture, the instructors were speechless.
Carol cleared his throat, his voice full of amusement, “Students Song Chunshi, Alan Garcia, line up.”
He pointed to the empty space in the middle of the training ground with his chin, indicating that they should go there.
After they left, Carol glanced at the time and smiled at his colleagues, “See? S-level physical fitness. Not only did she break the record herself, she also brought a companion along. Where are the S-level psychic power geniuses you mentioned?”
They had seen students break records before, but they had never seen anyone break a record while pulling a kite.
One instructor found his smile annoying, “You said it yourself. It’s S-level psychic power. Their strengths aren’t physical. It’s too early to be smug.”
Carol still smiled, “We’ll just have to wait and see.”
On the other side, Alan finally recovered. He looked at Song Chunshi as if he were watching a star beast dance, “We were the first to arrive. You pulled me and we even came in first place. The second place hasn’t even arrived yet!”
Song Chunshi glanced at him, “Isn’t the second place you?”
“Huh?” Alan’s brain froze for a moment. After a while, he said dreamily, “I’m second place? I’m second place? Oh my god, I’m actually second place!”
He acted like a puppy, clinging to Song Chunshi, his eyes about to pop out of his head, “Chunshi, Chunshi, you’re amazing!”
[Hmph, flattery!] The system hummed and hawed, [I suggest the host quickly ditch this chubby guy. I don’t think he’s of any use.]
“If my sister knew, she would definitely praise me for making such a great friend!”
[Talking about his sister all the time. Has the chubby guy been weaned?]
Two voices quarreled in her ears at the same time, and the content was completely useless, like three-year-old children. Song Chunshi frowned in annoyance, “Be quiet.”
The person and the system immediately shut up.
Alan took out his light brain and mumbled that he wanted to tell his family the good news.
At this time, other new students began to arrive at the training ground. They looked at Song Chunshi and Alan, who seemed to have been waiting there for a long time, with doubtful expressions.
“Are those two new students?”
“No way. Look at them. Their faces aren’t red and they’re not out of breath. They don’t look like they just ran.”
“They are new students. I saw that girl pull that boy past me. She ran as fast as a hover car!” A witness said.
“I don’t believe it. How could anyone reach that speed?”
“Believe it or not!”
The new students argued for a while, and then they gradually shifted their attention as more and more people arrived at the training ground.
Song Chunshi always stood at the edge of the crowd. She could observe everyone and react to any unexpected situation. This was her habit.
Alan was still fiddling with his light brain, “Strange. Why can’t I send a message? Is it broken?”
“Maybe the signal is blocked.” Song Chunshi guessed.
Although the notification said that registration was today, it seemed that the half-month training session had already begun. During the training session, they might not be allowed to contact the outside world.
Other students also noticed this. Some looked nervous, while others looked calm.
30 minutes had already passed. Finally, an instructor lazily walked over and called out a list of names, “Jimmy Frost, Hu Qingqing, Ingrid Kinsey… step forward!”
The people whose names were called hesitantly stepped forward. There were quite a few of them. Everyone quickly realized that they were the ones who arrived after 30 minutes.
“Because you didn’t arrive within the specified time, you will have to complete 5% more than everyone else in every training session from now on. Do you understand?”
The students who stepped forward looked at each other. Only a few voices responded sparsely.
The instructor glanced at them, “Are the rest of you mute?”
He didn’t look stern. One student boldly said, “Instructor, I was 13 kilometers away from the training ground. It was really too far!”
“Oh? Let me see.” The instructor lowered his head and checked his light brain.
Seeing this, the other students started speaking up, “I was even further away. 13.5 kilometers.”
“I was 14 kilometers!”
However, the instructor looked up and said with a smile, “Four of your companions broke the record this year. The first and second place ran 15 kilometers and finished in 23 minutes and 35 seconds. And they are new students in logistics management. So you see, distance is not an excuse.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the training ground buzzed with discussion.
“Logistics management? That garbage collection place? You’re kidding, right?”
“Who is it? Did anyone see them?”
“It seems to be those two on the far side, the girl with black hair and black eyes, and that chubby boy.”
The people present were all new students of the Empire Military Academy, including the popular majors like mecha infantry, command, and mechanic. They were, in a sense, the most outstanding geniuses of their age. Yet, they were beaten by two logistics management students. None of these young and arrogant new students were convinced.
Amidst the discussion, Song Chunshi and Alan, who had been standing on the edge of the crowd and were unremarkable, received many scrutinizing glances.
Song Chunshi remained unfazed, but Alan was a little nervous. Although he was simple-minded, he clearly sensed something was wrong. The instructor’s words seemed to make them the target of everyone’s ire.
“What’s Kane doing?” Carol frowned from a distance.
The other instructors teased him, “It’s just routine. Or are you not confident in your little dark horse?”
“What are you talking about?” Everything needs to be compared. Before he met Song Chunshi, Carol thought she wasn’t lively enough and didn’t act like a child. But now, facing these boisterous new students, he felt that the girl was quiet and introverted, completely different from a little kid.
“Hey, Carol, your little dark horse seems to be bullying someone.”
Carol turned his head and saw the quiet and introverted girl he had in mind, using one hand to slam a new student to the ground.
“Uh…”
