“Okay, don’t worry about me.” Shen Qingli gave her a reassuring smile. “I’m fine.”
Before they could chat any further, Shen Qingli’s phone rang.
She answered the call, and her expression changed slightly. “I understand.”
After she hung up the phone, “What’s wrong?”
“It’s work stuff.” Shen Qingli’s brow remained furrowed.
“It’s okay. If you’re busy, you can go first. It’s getting late. I’ll play with Zhuzhu for a while. Jiang Huaixu will pick us up later and take us to the old house.”
Shen Qingli finally looked at her. “The crew added someone last minute. I…”
“Go, go. I’m fine here.” Xu Chunian waved her hand dismissively. “Your comic is my top 1. Don’t ruin it for me!”
“Let’s get together again next time.”
“Okay.”
Shen Qingli finally felt reassured and left, glancing back three times.
Zhuzhu, who was in the corner, walked over.
Xu Chunian bent down. “What’s wrong?”
Zhuzhu pointed to the LEGO in the corner.
“Zhuzhu is so amazing.”
This was a toddler area, so the LEGO here was much simpler than the ones Zhuzhu built at home.
“Do you want to go down the slide, baby?”
Zhuzhu furrowed her delicate brows.
“It’s okay. I’ll catch you at the bottom, okay?”
Zhuzhu thought for a moment and nodded.
The slide was shaped like a maze. Zhuzhu followed a bunch of other kids, lining up to slide down.
When it was Zhuzhu’s turn, she held the pig doll under her chin and sat down. A little girl behind her, who was a little older, squatted down and asked, “Are you ready, little sister?”
Zhuzhu nodded.
“Then I’ll push you.” She grabbed Zhuzhu’s shoulders and gently pushed her forward.
“Ah!”
Zhuzhu slid down and was caught safely in Xu Chunian’s arms.
Xu Chunian looked down. Zhuzhu was smiling, her narrowed eyes like crescent moons.
Holding her up, Xu Chunian squatted down to catch the next girl.
The little girl waved her hand. “No need. I’m a big girl now.”
“Thank you.” Xu Chunian squatted in front of the two children.
“It’s okay.” The little girl pointed at Zhuzhu’s hand. “What happened to little sister’s hand?”
“Little sister’s hand got hurt.”
The little girl looked at Zhuzhu. “Does it hurt?”
Zhuzhu shook her head. When they came out, Xu Chunian had put two braids in her hair. After playing all day, they were a little loose and hung down.
Her eyes were bright.
“You’re so brave.” The little girl took a stamp out of her pocket. “This one is Peppa Pig, and this one is a bunny. Which one do you like?”
Zhuzhu didn’t like the pink hairdryer. She pointed to the bunny she liked.
The little girl opened the stamp. “Can I stamp it on your hand, little sister?”
“Is it okay, Zhuzhu?”
Zhuzhu nodded and held out her hand, the one in the cast.
The little girl opened the lid and pressed it down. A vibrant pink bunny was stamped on Zhuzhu’s hand.
“It’s so pretty.” Xu Chunian patted her head. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.” The little girl put the stamp away. “This is a reward for brave warriors. My dad said so.”
“Are you a brave warrior?”
“My dad is. He’s a soldier.” The little girl’s eyes were filled with admiration.
“That’s so cool.”
“Nuo Nuo.” A woman’s voice came from behind.
“Mom.” Nuo Nuo put away the stamp. “I’m going now. Auntie, goodbye, little sister.”
“Goodbye.”
Xu Chunian watched her leave, and she saw her mother. She was a very beautiful woman. The woman was surprised to see her at first, but then she smiled and nodded at her.
Then, Nuo Nuo jumped into a man’s arms. The tall man held the child in one arm and embraced the woman with the other.
