Chapter 24: The Sleeping Child Raises Her Hand

Although storming out was cool, Xu Chunian couldn’t keep up with the man’s pace.

“Slow down, I can’t keep up.”

Xu Chunian was practically dragged out of the villa.

Jiang Huaixu released her. “Sorry.”

“It’s okay.”

She rubbed her red wrist, which had been grabbed tightly, and followed him to the car.

Soon, they stopped in front of a restaurant, and the waiter at the door courteously opened the car door for them.

Jiang Huaixu carried Zhuzhu inside the restaurant, guided by the waiter.

In the luxurious private room

Warm-toned lights illuminated the entire space, and the flowers in the corner were fragrant and intoxicating.

The only sound was the clinking of chopsticks. Xu Chunian discreetly looked at the man sitting opposite her. The lights bathed him in a warm glow, and his every movement exuded an aura of elegance.

Xu Chunian picked up some fish, carefully deboned it, and fed it to Zhuzhu. Zhuzhu didn’t open her mouth but instead extended her small spoon under the chopsticks.

Xu Chunian stroked her head. “Little babies are fed by their mothers, and Zhuzhu is a little baby.”

Zhuzhu looked up at her, and Xu Chunian brought the chopsticks to her lips. “Ah…”

Zhuzhu finally opened her mouth.

A pair of eyes across the table stared intently at her. Xu Chunian’s heart skipped a beat, and she looked up, meeting a pair of eyes that were incredibly captivating. “What… what are you looking at?”

“Nothing, you’re quite good at taking care of children,” the man said casually.

“I haven’t been a mother, but I have been a child,” Xu Chunian retorted with a slight pout.

Upon hearing this, Jiang Huaixu stared at her for a few seconds, noticing the uneasiness in Xu Chunian’s back, but he didn’t say anything further.

“Um…” Xu Chunian stammered. “Tonight, at your house, I… I insulted your dad. I’m sorry. I just got carried away and blurted it out.”

No matter what, he was still Jiang Huaixu’s father, and she had insulted him to his face.

Jiang Huaixu paused. “No need to apologize; that’s not my house.”

Xu Chunian was stunned for a moment and didn’t say anything further.

Back at the villa, it was late. Xu Chunian and Zhuzhu took a bath together and then leaned against the headboard, Xu Chunian telling Zhuzhu stories.

Zhuzhu was quite excited; it was the first time she had slept with her mother and had stories read to her.

After the second story, Xu Chunian looked down and saw that the little piglet in her arms was fast asleep, her mouth tightly closed.

“Asleep?” Xu Chunian playfully poked Zhuzhu’s soft cheek, “Sleeping children, raise your hand.”

There was no movement from the little one in her arms. Xu Chunian exclaimed, “Zhuzhu isn’t asleep? Then I’ll tell you another one.”

As soon as she finished speaking, a small hand, like a lotus root, shot up.

Xu Chunian stifled a laugh. “Sleeping children also touch their noses.”

The next second, the little hand touched her nose.

“Zhuzhu is asleep,” Xu Chunian feigned stepping back. “I should go to sleep too.”

She clearly saw Zhuzhu’s lips droop. “The little princesses in fairy tales would crawl into their mothers’ arms when they fell asleep, so they could see their mothers when they woke up.”

Sure enough, the little piglet in her arms secretly raised the corner of her mouth, quietly opened one eye, and accurately caught Xu Chunian’s position, moving like a little piglet into Xu Chunian’s arms.

Xu Chunian’s heart melted with cuteness, and she laughed out loud before sitting up and turning off the light.

The hallway light cast a long shadow of the man at the door. Through the crack in the door, he peeked in like a thief, observing the happiness within.

He only reluctantly left after the lights were off and the room was plunged into darkness, obscuring everything.

Standing by the bed, the moonlight bathed him in a cool, mysterious glow.

He dialed a number, and the other end quickly answered.

“Help me monitor someone.”

“Xu Chunian.”

“Monitor her whereabouts.”
