Chapter 38: You… Not Looking?

At the entrance, Jiang Huaixu set Zhuzhu down, and she climbed into the children’s seat by herself.

Xu Chunian followed and brushed past him, taking a step back, her lower back hitting the car door.

“Ah.” She inhaled sharply.

Her expression didn’t seem to reflect disgust. Jiang Huaixu furrowed his brow, “What’s wrong?”

Xu Chunian tried to rub her waist, “I bumped into the corner of the table just now.”

Jiang Huaixu instinctively reached out, “Let me see.”

But he halted when he touched the hem of her shirt.

Xu Chunian maintained her position and looked up at him, “You… not going to look?”

Only then did Jiang Huaixu purse his lips and lift her shirt slightly. Xu Chunian’s skin was fair, her waist soft and firm, and there was a patch of redness at her waist.

“Did you bump into it when I pushed you?” The man’s voice was devoid of any discernible emotion.

Xu Chunian nodded, “It’s fine; it should go down quickly.”

“Does it hurt?”

“Not anymore. I’ll just put some ointment on it when we get back.”

The man finally let go of her shirt and moved to the driver’s seat.

“Um.” Xu Chunian suddenly spoke up, “Just drop us off at an amusement park.”

Jiang Huaixu glanced at her through the rearview mirror and then changed lanes.

The amusement park’s enormous castle sign was luxurious and dreamlike, with mascots at the entrance warmly hugging every child.

When Zhuzhu was taken out of the car, her eyes were glued to the adorable mascots.

Xu Chunian squatted down in front of her, “Do you want to go shake hands with them?”

Zhuzhu hesitated, her watery eyes looking at her.

Xu Chunian took her hand and led her to the mascots. Mr. Bear, dressed in a tailcoat, politely bowed to them and reached out to Zhuzhu.

Zhuzhu placed her little hand in his palm.

Mr. Bear, as if performing a magic trick, pulled out a miniature bear from behind, a keychain, and placed it in Zhuzhu’s hand before reaching out to Xu Chunian.

Before Xu Chunian could extend her hand, Zhuzhu was lifted up by someone.

Xu Chunian looked up at him, “Aren’t you going to the company?”

“Not anymore.” He bounced Zhuzhu up and down slightly, “Let’s go.”

“Okay then.”

Xu Chunian left Mr. Bear, who was still in a daze, and followed them.

After entering the park,

Zhuzhu was set down, and Xu Chunian helped her tuck the little toy away.

Xu Chunian sat on the carousel with Zhuzhu in her arms. When the carousel started moving, Zhuzhu seemed a bit scared, tightly gripping Xu Chunian’s pants until the breeze brushed past her ears, at which point she quietly opened her eyes.

The carousel spun around, familiar music playing overhead, surrounded by laughter. Older children sat on their own horses, while smaller ones, like Zhuzhu, were seated with their dads or moms, with Xu Chunian keeping her hands around her.

Looking down, she saw Zhuzhu’s big eyes curiously scanning the surroundings. “Zhuzhu, don’t be afraid. Look over there.”

Xu Chunian pointed in one direction, where Jiang Huaixu stood outside the ride with his hands in his pockets, his tall and slender figure, along with his exceptionally handsome face, stood out prominently in the crowd.

The man’s gaze, however, remained fixed in one direction. After all these years, Xu Chunian seemed to have changed yet remained the same. It felt as if he were seeing her from her teenage years again, just like today, when she wore sportswear, sweating on the track. Her fair face appeared to glow under the sun, glistening beads of sweat trailing down her cheeks, her small face full of the stubbornness of not wanting to fall behind, displaying a tenacity that refused to yield.
