Chapter 7: The Chosen Girl and the Chosen Boy

Before the police arrived, the security guards of Lize Park were the first to rush over.

Today the community was holding a festival here, so they had specifically strengthened security in the area. Almost immediately after the incident occurred, they arrived at the scene and took control of the person on the ground.

At the police station, the people were separated to give their statements.

The officer who had previously asked Shen Youwei to identify the suspect arrived to question her: “Tell us what happened.”

Shen Youwei said, “I was taking photos when I felt someone watching me, so I looked back. Suddenly this man rushed at me like a madman. Fortunately, my brother arrived just in time and kicked him down, and the knife dropped.”

“Your brother is Guan Shanyan?”

“Yes.”

“Are you two siblings?”

“No, our families are neighbors and have been close since we were kids, so I accepted his mother as my godmom.”

The police nodded and asked again, “I heard you said the person who attacked today is the same one involved in the Mocha Community case?”

Shen Youwei: “…”

The police said, “According to the suspect’s confession, he indeed followed you from early on, and when he saw Shen Youwei alone, he took the opportunity to strike.”

Guan Shanyan furrowed his brows silently.

“He definitely can’t run away now, so you don’t have to be so nervous.”

On the way back, Shen Youwei and Guan Shanyan were even quieter than when they left.

Shen Youwei had just lied to the police. The reason she looked back was because she had already been stabbed once. But no one would believe that, and she herself hadn’t figured it out.

When she was ten, she remembered falling off Mount Qingjing twice. Back then she was young and thought it was just a hallucination caused by fear.

When she reached the living room, she faintly saw a long figure lying on the sofa.

Guan Shanyan was wearing pajamas, his hands folded neatly as he lay on the sofa. Hearing Shen Youwei’s voice, he opened his eyes to glance at her, then slowly closed them again. “A bit of a fever. Came out to take some medicine.”

“Ah?” Shen Youwei stepped forward a couple of steps. “How did you suddenly get a fever?”

Guan Shanyan didn’t answer. The root of all this was the meteor shower they had watched together fifteen years ago.

It was springtime, and both families had arranged to go to Mount Qingjing to enjoy the flowers and have fun. There was a hot spring resort called Luming Hot Springs Mountain Villa on Mount Qingjing, and both families stayed there overnight.

That night, Shen Youwei found Guan Shanyan and said she wanted to explore the villa. Guan Shanyan originally didn’t agree, but worried about her wandering alone, he followed her.

There was naturally no treasure in the villa, but unexpectedly, they witnessed a meteor shower. After the meteors streaked across the night sky, the two saw a glowing blue stone in the garden.

Today, probably because he used the big move of “rewinding,” he still got a fever at night. However, compared to when he saved Shen Youwei on Mount Qingjing, this time the symptoms were much milder.

“You really have a fever?” Shen Youwei touched his forehead and it was indeed hot. “Do you want to go to the hospital?”

“No need. I’ll just lie down for a while and I’ll be fine. Don’t wake my parents.”

“…Okay then.” Shen Youwei glanced at him and went back to her room.

The living room returned to silence. After lying down for a while, Guan Shanyan felt his body wasn’t as heavy as before. He opened his eyes and saw the cup on the coffee table. The cup lifted itself from the table and landed in his hand.

He sat up and finished the water in the cup. Then the cup flew back from his hand to the table.

Shen Youwei’s bedroom door opened again. Hearing the sound, Guan Shanyan lay back down on the sofa.

“Don’t freeze to death here.” Shen Youwei took out a blanket and covered Guan Shanyan with it. Seeing the cup on the table was empty, she went to get a cup of warm water and asked, “Do you want some water?”

“Yes.” Guan Shanyan weakly nodded.

Shen Youwei helped him sit up and fed him some water with the cup. “If you feel better, go back to your room and sleep.”

“Mm.”

After putting the cup back on the table, Shen Youwei looked at Guan Shanyan again. “Hold out your hand.”

“What for?” Guan Shanyan was confused but obediently stretched out his hand.

Shen Youwei opened her palm and placed a candy in his hand. “This is for you. Thank you for saving me today.”
