Chapter 5
“What?”
Lu Lanxu’s clear voice echoed in her ear.
Zhu Suisui finally snapped out of her daze, closed the box, and replied coldly, “Nothing.”
She placed the box on the table.
As she lowered her gaze, the sleepwear she was wearing revealed a glimpse of her cleavage, perfectly exposing the marks on her body to the man.
Lu Lanxu’s eyes darkened.
Last night’s intensity was unprecedented in their year-long marriage.
He had always thought that Zhu Suisui didn’t like it.
When he first saw Zhu Suisui, she was still thin and frail, dressed in faded clothes, like a fragile little white flower, her entire body seeming to sway in the wind.
Lu Lanxu had a sudden urge to protect her.
Later, they got married.
On their wedding night, she was clearly so timid and shy, so afraid of what was about to happen, yet she still endured it silently.
Lu Lanxu could only be gentle and protective, afraid that if he did anything more, Zhu Suisui would think he was reckless.
But last night, he witnessed the fiery side of the little white flower.
However…
Lu Lanxu seemed to think of something, his eyes becoming restrained.
He then walked over and leaned down slightly, “Sui Sui, I have to go to the office first.”
“…Hmm.” Zhu Suisui didn’t turn around, but she could clearly feel the man’s hot breath on her neck, sending shivers down her spine.
Just like last night.
He seemed to be in a good mood, his brows and eyes were restrained, and he kissed her neck with hot breath, calling her name in a husky voice, again and again.
Zhu Suisui quickly stopped herself from thinking further.
But the next second, her back was covered, and a tall figure enveloped her in his arms.
Zhu Suisui’s body froze instantly.
She held her breath and didn’t move.
Lu Lanxu held her in his arms, turned his head, and kissed her cheek. His voice was magnetic and low, “I’ll take a vacation after I’m busy for a while. How about we go somewhere else then?”
Will he ever be done?
Zhu Suisui thought about it, and the answer was no.
The saying “the greater the power, the greater the responsibility” applied to Lu Lanxu.
Zhu Suisui didn’t say it was a bad idea, but she was tired of this life. Chasing after a man who didn’t love her was also tiring.
Instead of clinging to the vague promises he gave, promises that might not even be fulfilled, she would rather be able to go wherever she wanted, whenever she wanted.
So, when Lu Lanxu said those words, he was already out of Zhu Suisui’s life plan.
She didn’t answer whether it was good or bad.
Fortunately, Lu Lanxu didn’t insist. He pulled her closer and kissed her forehead.
He looked into her eyes, which were like ink melting into water, with a translucent quality like the pale moonlight.
“I’m going.”
After he left,
Zhu Suisui breathed a sigh of relief.
It was hard to describe the emotions in her heart.
She didn’t want to think about it anymore. She would just wait until after dinner and talk to Lu Lanxu about the divorce.
She returned to the room.
She was still wearing her pajamas. She had to go to Lu’s old man’s place, so she had to find a decent outfit.
In her previous life, she had always dreaded these gatherings.
Because the people who came were all people who held certain positions in various industries, which made Zhu Suisui feel even more out of place.
As mentioned before, the Lu family was a big family. During the war years, they emphasized having many children. Otherwise, if a son died, the family might be extinct. In the Lu family’s case, they placed the highest priority on procreation.
Lu’s old man had nine children in his lifetime: six sons and three daughters.
One son and one daughter had passed away.
Now, there were five sons and two daughters left.
And these children had also given birth to their own children, which showed how extensive the Lu family’s branches were.
Now, almost all of the Lu family members were shining stars in their respective industries, and the most promising among them was Lu Lanxu.
Thinking of Lu Lanxu,
Zhu Suisui couldn’t help but curl her fingers.
She had always wanted to live up to the role of Mrs. Lu, but because of her own living environment, she often made a fool of herself. She probably already had a reputation in the Lu family.
Forget about bringing glory to Lu Lanxu. It was a blessing to avoid making a fool of herself. They probably all laughed at him behind his back. No matter how excellent he was, he still married a wife who wasn’t presentable.
Thinking about this,
Zhu Suisui felt that there was nothing to be afraid of anymore. She would go with a confident and composed attitude, no longer needing to be timid and fearful because of Lu Lanxu.
This time, she would live for herself. Anyone who wanted to belittle her or mock her, she would fight back, instead of swallowing her anger.
She would let everyone know that she, Zhu Suisui, was not a pushover!
Following her memory, Zhu Suisui rummaged through her drawers and found a black, close-fitting wool dress that reached her ankles. She also found a wine-red velvet coat. It seemed like she had bought it when she went shopping with Lu Lanxu at the department store when they were newly married.
It had to be said that Lu Lanxu had excellent taste. The clothes he chose were not overly luxurious, but the colors were well-matched, and the tailoring was elegant and generous.
She had rarely worn this dress in her previous life. It wasn’t that she didn’t like it, but that she couldn’t bear to wear it. It was the first dress Lu Lanxu had ever bought for her, and it had a special commemorative significance. She had kept this dress for twenty years, and it was still brand new when she took it out.
Now, clothes were inanimate objects. The owner of the clothes was about to abandon her, so who cared about the clothes?
Zhu Suisui quickly changed into the dress and looked at herself in the mirror. She realized that she had changed a lot.
Especially her eyes.
Her eyes were like her mother’s, sparkling and alluring, with eyes that could captivate.
Now, they were even brighter and clearer than in her previous life, like polished gemstones, exceptionally exquisite and beautiful. Her eyes were filled with a captivating sparkle, and a single glance could steal one’s heart.
That was strange.
Her appearance had been enhanced by her eyes.
Her originally worried and self-pitying brows and eyes had relaxed, and with this outfit, her entire person was radiant and stunning, like she had been reborn.
Thinking of that word,
Zhu Suisui couldn’t help but smile.
Hadn’t she been reborn?
However, the change in her eyes made Zhu Suisui suddenly think of the red mist, and her expression froze.
Could it be that besides being reborn, heaven had also bestowed upon her some kind of special ability?
That was very possible. In the 1980s, Zhu Suisui had watched many Hong Kong films, which were about people with special abilities, and they all had accidental encounters that gave them these abilities.
She remembered that she had seen the jade. To verify the authenticity of this event, she decided to find a piece of jade to see.
Jade, jade…
Wait?
She actually had one.
Thinking about this,
Zhu Suisui immediately went to the place where she remembered it was, and began to look for the jade.
