Chapter 242
ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
Rocinante (my horse), galloped over to where I was lying down after defeating the Kobold King.
“…. I’m so glad you’re safe.”
I said as I stroked Rocinante (my horse)’s mane. The Blue Wolves were approaching me too so I petted each of them on the head.
“You guys, thank you for the help.” Looking around, it was clear to see that the monster’s movement had slowed down. Or perhaps to be precise, they were working individually, there was no harmony in their movement.
However, there were still more than 100 monsters remaining.
“Well then, I guess we still have some more work to do.”
After finishing the remaining potions I had, I mounted Rocinante (my horse) and joined in the fray, along with the Blue Wolves to defeat the remaining monsters.
◆
By the time we finished dealing with most of the monsters, the sun had set. It was night time already. We decided to leave the disposal of the defeated monsters until tomorrow morning and took a rest inside the safety of the town walls for the time being.
After arriving home, I quickly took a bath to wash off the dirt and then fell into a deep slumber on my bed.
I woke up in the middle of the night. It was an odd hour to wake up. Shifting my gaze to the side, I saw a lantern emitting a soft light on the side table.
Looking to the side, I saw Yurina-san. She was sleeping peacefully, snoring softly. Meanwhile, Ash was at my feet. He was also snoring adorably.
How long have I been asleep? Pretty sure I had gone to bed without having dinner.
When I thought about it, my stomach suddenly growled. I also realized that my joints were aching all over.
“I’m thirsty…”
I slowly slipped out of the bed, careful not to wake Yurina-san and Ash up. Then I grabbed the pitcher on the table and poured a glass of water for me to drink. There was some bread on the table so I took a bite of it to quench some hunger.
Then, Ash also got down from the bed. He looked up at me, wagging his tail.
“Shush…”
I put my index finger to my lips, hushing him. I was afraid that he would start barking to ask me for food. I carried Ash with one hand and headed to the kitchen.
From the kitchen window, I could see the sight of the town. The town was completely quiet. I tossed some ingredients into a pot and simmered them. As I stared at the orange flames while waiting for the food to cook, I began to get lost in my thoughts.
One wrong step and I could have died. No, maybe it’s not an exaggeration to say it’s a miracle I’m still alive.
Thinking back on it, my hands started to tremble.
Since I was a peace idiot, I couldn’t really understand it back then but if I didn’t decide to join the battle and confronted the enemy, I would have lost everything I held dear. Just sitting around doing nothing wasn’t even an option. If I opted to do nothing, everything in this town would be in ruin and that would be the end of it. As simple as that.
“I guess this world is actually incredibly simple.”
After eating and filling my stomach, I carried Ash again and went back to sleep again.
My fingers were no longer trembling as I grabbed the bed’s cover carefully, to avoid waking Yurina-san.

T/N: This is definitely a key character development moment.
