Chapter 10 A Crisis Is a Business Opportunity!
The slime had grown to a gigantic size. I ran up to it and raised my hand with all my might.
Then, I threw the salt I was holding at the slime with all my might.
“Natural salt attack!”
“Lady Lydia, can’t you do something about your naming sense?”
Ignoring Lina’s mutterings behind me, I dodged the slime’s attack and threw the salt.
Then, I saw the side of the slime that had hit the salt shrink slightly.
“I was right! It’s just as I thought.”
Seeing the slime dissolve in the salt reminded me of the existence of slugs in my previous life. Slugs have the characteristic of shrinking when salt is poured on them.
I also remembered learning in middle school that slugs and “slime” toys in my previous life share the same characteristics.
Having seen the slime dissolve in salt earlier, I thought that perhaps the characteristics of the “slime” from my previous life would be applicable to the slime in this life.
And so I continued to throw salt.
However, the slime was too big, and soon the salt I had was not enough.
I wanted to ask someone for help. As I turned around, I saw the residents looking at my actions suspiciously.
“What is that woman doing…?”
“Our house is about to be destroyed, and we have no time to worry about that.”
“Has the villain finally gone mad?”
They were confused and suspicious of the “villain”‘s sudden strange behavior.
However, now that I had found a solution, there was no time to hesitate. I immediately called out to them.
“You guys! I’m going to defeat the slime, so please help me.”
“Huh? How can we do that?”
“Don’t worry! All we have to do is throw salt at it, it’s easy!”
“???”
They tilt their heads as if they don’t understand.
“If the Knights don’t come, we’ll have to defeat it ourselves!”
“No, I can’t help you…”
They shake their heads and refuse.
Well, it’s hard to trust someone who calls me a “villain.” But…
“Choose whether you want to just stand by and watch the city get destroyed, or cooperate with me and defeat the slime!”
“…”
“You might be more successful if you do something than if you do nothing!”
When I said that, they seemed to suddenly realize.
This is an emergency, and they won’t be able to change the situation unless they resist in some way.
“O-Okay. I’ll do as you say, salt or whatever!”
One of them nodded, and the others seemed to be motivated. About five men who were there brought salt, so we all started throwing it together.
“Here we go!”
“Take that!”
“Don’t destroy the town!”
The men threw salt while shouting things like this.
Meanwhile, the women brought salt from their homes and asked stores that sold it. They carried out their role of gathering salt.
Lina also brought salt while muttering, “What a surreal scene… I don’t want to think that my master created this situation…” as she did the same.
After repeating this, the slime finally shrunk to the size of a palm.
It seemed to have completely lost its offensive ability, and stopped attacking.
“The attacks have stopped!”
The moment I told everyone, the room erupted in excitement.
“That’s amazing! I did as I was told and I really defeated it!”
“It was funny watching the slime shrink!”
“I can’t believe we can defeat monsters too!”
“Amazing!”
One of them ran up to me and held my hands in joy.
“Thanks, my lady! I seem to have misunderstood you. I’m sorry for calling you a ‘wicked woman whose engagement was broken off’.”
“No. I mean, you know I’m a noble, right? You’re not going to use formal language?”
“You’ve been banished from the nobility and are pretty much the same as a commoner now, right? Or should I use formal language?”
“Yeah, that’s true.”
Well, I guess casual speaking is fine. I have memories from my past life, so sometimes I feel uncomfortable being respected just because of my status.
Compared to when I was insulted as a ‘wicked woman’, I’m glad that I’ve gotten closer to the residents of this land. I can totally forgive carryall l casual speaking.
“Thank you so much for helping, young lady. I’ll definitely repay you.”
“That’s fine. It was for my sake too, so don’t worry about it…”
Having said that, I suddenly realized.
If it’s “gratitude,” it should be repaid immediately.
“Hey, can you repay me right now?”
“Right now? If I can do it right now, that’s fine.”
“Yeah. You can do it right now.”
I look around.
Some of the people who helped me this time had been attacked by the slime and were sticky.
More than anything, they were all covered in sweat from throwing salt at them and carrying it around with all their might.
At this point, there’s only one request, right?
“Do you all want to take a bath at my shop?”
