Chapter 8 The Appearance of the Super Huge Slime
One afternoon. No customers came today, and we were enjoying our free time.
While I was cleaning the outside of the store, I heard a young woman whispering nearby.
“Hey, look. It looks like the store is still open.”
“That’s stupid. No customers are going to come.”
Hearing her, Luke frowned.
“Lady Lydia, I don’t care about that sort of thing…”
“Hey, I’m thinking of making something called bath salts next.”
“Oh, I didn’t think about it at all.”
Lina and Luke tilted their heads to the side when I suddenly said “I’m going to make bath salts.”
“What is bath salt?”
“I think bath salt is a mixture of aromatic oils, vegetable oils and natural salt. Natural salt contains minerals, so it has beauty benefits and keeps you warm.”
“Really?”
“I want to advertise the store by doing something interesting to attract more people to it.”
Over the past few days, we’ve tried various ways to promote our store.
We’ve paid people to put up flyers around town, handed out coupons… But nothing has worked. The flyers are covered in graffiti, and the coupons have even been torn up on the spot.
The road to success is just too tough…
Undeterred, I’ve come up with a new plan.
“I thought a lot of people would be happy if they knew it had beauty benefits. I wonder if the girls over here would like that sort of thing in particular?”
I glanced at the woman that was bad mouthing earlier. Then, they left awkwardly.
Hmph. If you don’t have the guts to confront me directly, you shouldn’t have said anything in the first place.
Well, the reason I want to make bath salts is simply because I want to try it myself. It’s easy as long as you have the ingredients.
And so, I went out to buy the ingredients. I took Lina with me.
What I was planning to buy today was natural salt and aroma oil to go with it.
“Do they sell natural salt around here?”
“Yes. There’s a mountain range in the Eudrais territory, right? They can mine rock salt there, so apparently they sell quite a bit.”
“Oh, really?”
The rock salt that is harvested is usually used for food. I use it to make bath salts.
By the way, aroma oils are popular among nobles for their scent, so they can be purchased at more upscale specialty stores.
While talking to Lina, I arrived at the store I was looking for, so I bought some natural salt.
“Okay, next is aroma oil.”
“What kind of aroma oil should I buy?”
“I think I’ll get rose. It smells nice, and it’s cold, so I want something that helps improve blood circulation.”
Having this conversation, I was able to buy the rose aroma oil without any problems. Now that my shopping is done, all that’s left is to go home.
Or so I thought.
“Kyaaaaaa!!!”
Suddenly, we heard a scream from outside the store. We hurried outside, wondering what was going on.
There we found…
“Whoa! What’s that?!”
When I saw “that,” I let out a loud voice that was unbecoming of a lady.
“Lady Lydia, how indecent.”
“No, but I’ve never seen a slime that big!”
That’s right. In front of us was a super huge slime. It was the size of a three-story building.
And to make matters worse, the slime was attacking people and destroying the city.
Small slimes were being thrown at fleeing people and buildings with incredible force.
Even though they were small, people would be knocked down by the force of the slimes flying at them like a fastball. And when the slimes hit people, they would be unable to move due to their stickiness.
Screams and roars echoed all around.
“Hey, someone help me!”
“Get out of the way!”
“Run away!”
“Are the knights here yet?”
“My house is sticky with slime!”
“My house is being destroyed by the force of the slimes.”
The place was chaotic with people fleeing, people who were attacked and unable to move, people trying to help them, and injured people.
I had heard that monsters lived in the forest near the Eudrais territory… I’ve never heard of them attacking people in the middle of town. This is a serious emergency.
If the Knights don’t arrive, I’ll have to take action to resolve this situation.
Monsters can be defeated with magic or sword attacks. Only nobles can use magic.
Currently, I’m the only one who can defeat slimes with magic, as I’m of noble blood.
So I have no choice but to do it.
“Let’s fulfill my noble duty, noblesse oblige!”
“That’s definitely not the kind of word to use here,” Lina calmly retorted.
