Chapter 9 Lydia’s Magic
“Let’s fulfill my noble duty, noblesse oblige!”
“That’s definitely not the right word to use here.”
Ignoring Lina’s retort, I spoke.
“Water, become a sharp spear and attack the target.”
There are five magical attributes: fire, water, ice, wind, and grass. When you want to use these spells, you need to call on the magical power flowing through your “blood” and chant the spell.
I pointed straight at the slime.
“Aqua Lance.”
As I finished chanting the spell, the water spear flew towards the slime and my magic hit perfectly.
This would cut the slime to pieces and inflict damage. Or so I thought.
However, the slime became giant after receiving my water magic.
“Why?!”
The giant slime became even more aggressive than before my water magic hit it.
Maybe slimes are made of water, so they absorb water magic attacks…? If so, it would be best to avoid water magic attacks.
But there’s no problem. I can use magic of two elements.
“In that case, I’ll use fire magic…”
“Lady Lydia, you can’t attack with fire magic!”
“Why?!”
Lina stops me from behind, and I hastily close my mouth as I’m about to chant.
“There are houses nearby. It would be terrible if the attack doesn’t hit the slime and it catches fire.”
“What the…”
Water magic has no effect on slimes and it’s best to avoid using fire magic, considering the effect it has on the surroundings. I don’t have any other magic elements I can use.
It’s so hard to defeat slimes…
“Slimes are just weaklings!”
“What kind of perception is that? Big slimes are threatening monsters!”
“What?”
Apparently, my previous world perception that “slimes are weaklings in RPGs” doesn’t apply in this world.
If that’s the case, I should have brought Luke the knight. He would have been able to defeat the slime with his sword…
As I struggle to defeat the slime, I gradually start to attract attention from the people around me.
“What is that woman doing?”
“Oh, isn’t that the bad girl whose engagement was broken off?!”
“No, she’s not going to attack me, is she?”
My unpopular behavior seems to stand out, and I hear a lot of negative comments. I’m trying to help, after all…
Lina pulls on my arm.
“That’s enough, Lady Lydia. Let’s get away quickly.”
“But…”
“We should just leave people who criticize Lady Lydia without knowing anything about her alone.”
Lina urged me, but I didn’t have the courage to abandon them. After all, there were people here who had been attacked by slimes and couldn’t move, and people who were in despair after their houses were destroyed…
“Ahhh!”
“Danger!”
As I was hesitating, the slime’s attack came flying towards Lina. I pulled her arm and fell to the side while holding her to protect her.
Because I was well protected, I didn’t feel much pain when I fell to the ground.
“I’m sorry! Lady Lydia, are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine. I wasn’t even hit by the slime.”
Fortunately, we both avoided the slime’s attack. However, the bag I was carrying was torn.
The salt I had bought with so much effort spilled out of the torn area. What’s more, the slime flew over the salt, turning it sticky.
It was useless now.
Oh, I was planning to make bath salts.
I was looking forward to using them.
Actually, if the slime hadn’t been there, I would have been warming up in the bath by now!!
In that moment, all my doubts about whether to just run away disappeared.
“I won’t forgive you for interrupting my bath time!”
Feeling the blood rising to my head, I stood up, shouting in anger.
“I’ll definitely beat you.”
“Lady Lydia…”
Behind me, Lina was dumbfounded, but I didn’t care.
I looked around to find a solution.
Then I noticed that the slime on top of the salt was slowly dissolving.
I had a lot of questions in my mind, like “Why salt?” and “Is it something that can dissolve?”
“Maybe this could be useful?”
I decided to take a gamble.
