Chapter 4 – A Strange CP Appears (2/2)
Shi Lan also nodded and gave a polite smile, chiming in to agree,
“Senior Shang, we’ve worked together before too—on the New Year’s Gala stage.”
Even the usually silent Xie Zhiyi added calmly,
“You also sang for one of my movie’s soundtracks.”
Jiang Wan looked at the three of them in surprise.
She hadn’t expected them all to step in and speak up for her.
The live comments were in full discussion:
[I’m dying—so by this logic, Shang Gubai actually knows Jiang Qi and Shi Lan way better. At least they’ve collaborated.]
[Even Film Emperor Xie couldn’t stand by and watch? I’m about to cry.]
[You four were all sitting around like you’d never even met each other five minutes ago. How did you suddenly turn into a united front?]
[Maybe because even though Shang Gubai aimed at Jiang Wan, he ended up throwing shade over all of them at once…?]
[Don’t underestimate the bonds between our Silent Four!]
One sentence from each of them left Shang Gubai totally at a loss for words.
He really couldn’t defend himself.
It wasn’t like he’d deliberately stoop to something as low as picking targets based on status.
It was just…
The moment he’d stepped into the living room, his gaze had been involuntarily drawn to Jiang Wan. He honestly hadn’t noticed that Xie Zhiyi was sitting even closer!
Come on!
They were here to record a dating show.
Why would he look at the men? He wasn’t gay!
As for why he’d said something so obnoxious?
Oh, that was probably because he had a flawed personality—he just loved making sarcastic remarks and couldn’t help it. That part he admitted.
In the end, Shang Gubai chose to apologize.
Jiang Wan didn’t make it difficult for him.
The director secretly breathed a sigh of relief, finally daring to force a smile and pretend nothing had happened. He coaxed everyone into doing a quick round of self-introductions and then continued prompting the next part of the program.
The director asked,
“Many viewers are very curious. All of you are top-tier handsome men and beautiful women in the entertainment industry. Naturally, you’re never short of admirers in real life. So why have none of you ever dated before? Could you share your reasons with everyone?”
They answered in order.
Shang Gubai, knowing just how badly he’d wrecked his image with viewers earlier, could only helplessly self-deprecate to salvage a bit of goodwill:
“You’ve all seen it yourselves—I was born with a big mouth. Even if a girl liked me at first, she’d probably get so annoyed she’d give up before we even made it to the flirting stage.”
When you admit it yourself, random viewers tend to scold you a little less.
The comments mostly agreed:
[True, if my boyfriend sniped at me like that every day, I couldn’t take it either.]
[Came here to find love, and immediately pissed off a female guest—only you could pull that off!]
Next was Song Yanyan, who showed a shy, troubled expression and answered bashfully,
“I just graduated. Before this, I was always busy juggling work and my studies, so I never had time to spend with guys privately.”
Her fans were melted into goo:
[Our Yanyan is such a good girl who never dated early!!!]
[She’s so well-behaved! Let Mama give you a big kiss!]
[Please, let her find her perfect prince on this show—I’m begging!]
Then it was Shi Lan’s turn.
Her explanation was very simple: before debuting, she was always practicing; after debuting as an idol, she naturally couldn’t date.
[Idols can’t date—every idol should carve this into their lungs!!!]
[Shi Lan is the perfect example of professionalism.]
But next, Shi Lan said something that stunned everyone.
She frowned slightly, as if this question had troubled her for a long time, and said,
“Usually, I was always busy with dance practice, so I never really interacted properly with any men. Not only have I never been in love, I’ve never even had a crush. I actually want to see whether I can feel any romantic interest in men at all.”
Everyone: “!”
[Shi Lan, you really don’t say much, but when you do—WOW!]
[Uh…is it okay if you feel romantic interest in women instead?]
The comments were full of giggling.
Everyone assumed it was just Shi Lan being inarticulate, leading to a bit of confusion in how she phrased things.
Xie Zhiyi, as everyone expected, squeezed out a single sentence:
“I’m not good at social interaction.”
Jiang Wan’s answer was perfunctory but honest:
“Busy. There are too many things I want to do. I don’t even have enough time for myself.”
The viewers had already seen straight through her:
[Considering all the manga in Jiang Wan’s house, she probably has several days a week reserved for catching up on updates. And with all those old games she owns, even in a lifetime she’d never 100% complete them. She really doesn’t have time to date!]
[I’m dying—busy! Busy is good!]
People were already starting to ship her with others:
[How about Xie Zhiyi and Jiang Wan just move in together? Each of you can have your own room and do your own thing.]
[Xie Zhiyi can read and pet cats, Jiang Wan can play games and read manga. If you get tired, you can swap—Xie Zhiyi can play games to relax, Jiang Wan can go cuddle the cats—and thus create a perpetual motion machine.]
[A strange new CP has been born!]
