Chapter 5 – Maybe She Had a Boyfriend (1/2)
Everyone’s reasons so far had been pretty standard and predictable—just as the online audience had expected—until it was Jiang Qi’s turn to answer.
Jiang Qi was notoriously arrogant and cocky, a reputation that preceded him in the entertainment circle.
But now, the face of this little tyrant unexpectedly showed a trace of melancholy.
He gave a self-deprecating smile and said,
“There was someone I liked. But she never even gave me the chance to confess.
She agreed to meet me, then completely stood me up.”
The director blinked.
“She wouldn’t even see you? That’s a bit harsh.”
Jiang Qi shrugged.
“Yeah, maybe because she had a boyfriend.”
Everyone: “???”
[I was just starting to feel bad for Jiang Qi, and then THAT line made me burst out laughing.]
[Um, HELLO?! If she had a boyfriend, not giving you a chance to confess sounds… totally normal??]
[Side note though—Jiang Qi’s expression right now? Really emotional. Can I say that? Totally different from how he looks on screen.]
[Jiang Qi… that sad look in your eyes… not once have I seen it in any of your romantic scenes (devastated)]
[This right here is what we call “genuine emotion”! LOL!]
[Jiang Qi: For love, I fight! (Failed version)]
[So ridiculous, but he said it so seriously. I can’t help laughing.]
Jiang Wan wanted to laugh too.
She tried to hold it in, she really did—but failed.
Jiang Qi side-eyed her.
Jiang Wan quickly grabbed a tissue to wipe her nose and pretended to be touched.
“…So tragic.”
Jiang Qi: “…”
[Jiang Wan is literally me. I’m laughing even harder than she is.]
[Everyone else is so well-behaved. Y’all didn’t laugh? You’re the real MVPs.]
[She actually pulled off a panic performance of being moved—Jiang Qi, just forgive her already!]
Jiang Qi slowly withdrew his gaze.
Jiang Wan let out a tiny sigh of relief.
Crisis, barely averted.
Next question: What’s your ideal type?
Jiang Wan furrowed her brow.
This part—she was very familiar with.
Shi Lan asked bluntly,
“Didn’t we already answer this on the way here?”
The director gave a mysterious smile.
This wasn’t a question they were supposed to verbally answer this time—it was time to reveal their answers.
On the massive projector in the living room—
A clip appeared of Xie Zhiyi’s very first press conference after debut.
His face was still youthful and inexperienced.
A reporter had asked him about a dating rumor involving a certain actress.
Xie Zhiyi had frowned and shut the rumor down with one sentence:
“She talks too much.”
The footage then cut to his interview from earlier today.
Xie Zhiyi, as always, was sparing with words, but still maintained a degree of politeness:
“Someone quieter.”
[So that’s it? Just quiet? Then I guess you’d get along great with Jiang Qi, Jiang Wan, and Shi Lan! You four don’t say a single word between you! Y’all could live together in total silence and have a perfectly happy life!]
[Sister up front made me die laughing—can we stop dragging the “Silent Four”?]
[In a way, Film Emperor Xie really hasn’t forgotten his roots.]
[“After years in showbiz, my ideal type remains unchanged.”]
Shang Gubai had never been asked this kind of question before.
Seriously—what kind of reporter would dare to ask him about his private life?
Who would risk getting roasted on the spot?
But now, for the first time, he gave a rare answer:
“I like girls with a good appetite. The kind who eat heartily.
Watching them eat well puts me in a good mood too.”
Shang Gubai’s tongue was as picky as his personality.
He had a lot of requirements when it came to food.
Even if you followed all his instructions, he still might not like it.
That’s just how he was—someone with low desires in general, including appetite.
