Su Yu woke up and was instantly excited to find his space filled with food.
One portion was specially for him from Xia Qing: a grilled meat rice bowl. Xia Qing figured he was a long-term customer, so giving him something special wasn’t too much, right? She even thoughtfully added cola, because all men love that stuff.
Su Yu felt a warm glow in his heart.
Li Yao and the others all got steamed buns, but there were still too many people in the base, and Xia Qing’s small space still needed upgrading. Plus, with so many people in the base, they had to eat every day, so the consumption was enormous.
Even after buying so many steamed buns and sesame cakes, it was impossible to give everyone their fill. Most people could only get half a bun, but they were going crazy with excitement at not having to eat dirt or poisonous, astringent tree bark.
The soft, white steamed buns made some people cry as they ate.
“Your milk powder probably won’t arrive until tomorrow or the day after,” Su Yu said.
“It’s okay, there are still a few bags of soy milk left to drink.”
Children who’d been hungry for two or three days wouldn’t even eat, so being able to have a normal meal now was already like burning incense to the gods.
Li Yao, Wang Qiang, and Zhang Liang were happily munching on their steamed buns when they saw Su Yu eating grilled meat and rice, and even drinking cola.
“Why do you have meat?” Li Yao rushed over in an instant.
Don’t laugh at his excitement, because it had been too long since he’d eaten meat. The others crowded around too.
“This is my food,” Su Yu said calmly, feeling smug. After all, this was special treatment she was giving him.
Having food to eat these past two days had gradually restored color to Su Yu’s face.
Although the others didn’t know where Su Yu had gotten it all, they knew he had awakened a miraculous space ability.
“So fragrant! That drink looks so good,” Wang Qiang said, his eyes shining as he stared at the canned cola in Su Yu’s hand.
“Next time, I’ll get you some to try.”
Su Yu was thinking about solving everyone’s food and clothing problems first, and then finding a way to build a city wall so people could live safely.
Right now, they were in a large, underground military air-raid shelter.
After the four of them finished eating, Li Yao went to see his son, Xiao Douding, who could already sit up and looked much better.
The four of them were going to the urban area to kill zombies today. Everyone was putting in a lot of effort because they had eaten their fill!
Puchi puchi, Wang Qiang cut open a zombie with his knife and dug out the crystal bead from its brain.
“There’s a supermarket over there, but all the food inside is gone,” Wang Qiang said regretfully.
This urban area was relatively close to their base, so the food had been looted long ago.
It had been a year since the apocalypse, and almost no food was left.
“Yu-ge, there’s a bank there!” Li Yao said excitedly, his eyes lighting up.
Banks must have a lot of money. Su Yu shook his head; they were in different timelines, and the monetary systems were different.
“Useless.”
“Yu-ge! There’s a gold shop there!” Li Yao pointed excitedly to a small gold shop across the street.
Wang Qiang and Zhang Liang were speechless. Weren’t they out here to kill zombies and find supplies?
What was the point of finding a pile of gold? Thinking about what Su Yu had said about needing valuable things, could it be related to this?
“Let’s go!”
The four of them headed straight for the gold shop. The doors were intact, and apart from the spiderwebs, there were no signs of damage to the counters. Compared to the supermarket’s mess, no one seemed to have been here before.
The group dismantled the counters, putting all kinds of gold jewelry and jade bracelets into the space. Remembering what Xia Qing had instructed him to do in the novel, he also went to the bookstore.
He collected a few books, until the space was full.
He would have to come back tomorrow to collect more!
The space was too small!
After collecting these things, they didn’t rush to leave. They hunted a few zombies on the outskirts, found about a dozen crystal beads, and then went back.
By the time they returned, it was already afternoon.
As the sun went down, the activity level of the zombies became very sensitive, and their strength in all aspects increased. Even though they were evolved, they didn’t dare to stay overnight in the urban area.
A few zombies could easily be hunted, but facing hundreds or thousands of zombies, they would only be torn to pieces.
Su Yu and the others returned to the underground air-raid shelter, which was only dimly lit. They had found an external generator before, and it was only enough to power a few light bulbs.
“Yu… Yu-ge.”
An elderly woman stopped Su Yu.
Su Yu frowned, thinking she was there to ask for food. “The food for today has already been distributed. There won’t be any until tomorrow.”
The old woman took off a jade bracelet from her wrist, a bracelet she had worn all her life.
“This is for you. Can you find medicine for my grandson tomorrow?”
Su Yu took the jade bracelet. It looked to be of good quality, but in this world, it wasn’t worth a loaf of bread!
“What’s wrong with your grandson?” Su Yu asked quickly.
“It should be acute enteritis,” a man with glasses and a square face said, walking up to them. He had been a doctor before the apocalypse, and now he provided medical care at the base.
But it was just providing care, because he had no medicine or equipment.
“Okay, I’ll see what I can do,” Su Yu replied.
“Many people in the base have acute enteritis. It must be from eating something unclean,” Li Yao said.
“We’ll talk about it tomorrow.”
Su Yu had spoken, and the others didn’t dare to haggle any further.
After Su Yu and the others left, the old woman’s eyes turned red. The doctor beside her wanted to say something comforting, but didn’t know how to start.
“Grandma, eat!” A little girl clutched half a steamed bun in her hand. She couldn’t bear to finish it and wanted to give it to her grandmother.
“You… eat it,” the woman said weakly, her face pale, her eye sockets sunken, and her lips black from long-term consumption of too many toxic things.
“Grandma, don’t die! I’ll give you everything to eat! Please, live,” the four-year-old girl cried heartbreakingly.
Several people watched this scene. Here, everyone was used to it.
Their base was better than the others. It was said that in the neighboring base, they were eating their own kind due to lack of food.
Su Yu entered the space and found that the things he had stored were not yet moved out. Thinking about the time difference between their worlds, it should be late at night over there now. He simply left a note.
The next day, Xia Qing woke up early in the morning.
She had been feeling refreshed lately, perhaps because she had money, and also because her body had undergone many changes after absorbing the crystal bead.
The first thing she did after waking up was to check her phone. There were 99+ notifications from the Qi Mao Novels app.
It was only six o’clock.
Then she entered her space, and the glittering gold jewelry dazzled her eyes.
