Chapter 40: The Trip to the Police Station
Wen Jianguo cleverly ran over and, without needing instructions, used Er Laizi’s belt to tie his hands. He left a small space between his feet and the ground.
Finished, he clapped his hands and kicked Er Laizi with his foot.
He wasn’t going to carry Er Laizi to the police station on his bicycle.
Er Laizi’s eyelids fluttered. He lay on the ground playing dead, motionless.
Wen Jianguo let out a cold chuckle. “Er Laizi, if you don’t get up, my next kick will be to your… you know.” This guy was trying to play tricks on him.
Er Laizi heard the seriousness in Wen Jianguo’s voice and quickly opened his eyes, forcing a smile. “Brother Jianguo, you’ve tied me up so tightly I can’t walk.
Untie me, and I promise I won’t run.” As if he wouldn’t run as fast as he could.
Wen Jianguo rolled his eyes and dragged Er Laizi up. He wasn’t stupid enough to believe Er Laizi’s words.
He Fang let out a huge sigh of relief, only then realizing the searing pain in her arm, and involuntarily cried out in pain.
“Comrade, your arm wound needs immediate treatment. I’ll take you to the hospital first, and then my brother will take Er Laizi to the police station,” Wen Wan said worriedly.
They had saved her, so she had to see this through.
He Fang was deeply moved. She bit her lip. “Benefactor, I, He Fang, will repay you.” She would have her father contribute money and effort.
Wen Wan smiled and changed the subject. “He Fang, don’t call me benefactor. Just call me Wen Wan.”
Remembering she hadn’t seen her before in the village, she asked as they walked, “He Fang, are you from Erhe Village? I don’t remember seeing you.”
“No, I was delivering something to a friend in Xinglin Village, and I got lost on the way back…” He Fang recounted the incident, still shaken.
She was incredibly lucky to have met the Wen siblings; otherwise, she would have lost more than just her innocence, she might have lost her life.
They reached the main road.
Wen Jianguo picked up the fallen bicycle, looking troubled as he looked from Er Laizi to He Fang.
“Brother, I’ll take He Fang to the town hospital first, then go to the police station,” Wen Wan decided.
Wen Jianguo tentatively asked, “Xiao Wan, can you ride a bike?” He and their father were the only ones who rode the bike; Xiao Wan had never touched it.
“Brother, I can ride. I rode a colleague’s bike in the city,” Wen Wan said confidently, without blinking.
Of course, she wasn’t a beginner; she had learned in her past life. It was just a regular bicycle.
“Xiao Wan, your legs aren’t long enough, it’ll be inconvenient to stop,” Wen Jianguo pointed out, glancing at the bicycle’s long front bar.
Wen Wan’s heart sank. “It’s fine, I’ll ride normally, and He Fang can hop on.” Side-saddle riding was out of the question; it was too embarrassing.
“I’m fine with that,” He Fang earnestly assured them.
Wen Jianguo, somewhat reluctantly, handed the bicycle to Wen Wan. “Xiao Wan, take it easy.” He didn’t want his sister to fall; their parents would kill him.
“Don’t worry about me, just take Er Laizi to the police station,” Wen Wan said, glancing disdainfully at Er Laizi, who was cowering nearby. She was so angry she could have killed him.
It was only because she grew up in a peaceful society under the rule of law that she didn’t. Otherwise, she’d have kicked him to death and thrown him in a latrine.
Watching Wen Wan ride away, Wen Jianguo kicked Er Laizi’s butt. “Hurry up, don’t waste my time.” He was already upset that he wouldn’t be having meat for dinner.
Holding onto Wen Wan’s slender waist, He Fang felt reassured and unconsciously leaned against Wen Wan’s back.
Wen Wan stiffened. She hoped He Fang hadn’t passed out.
“He Fang, we’ll be in town soon,” Wen Wan said anxiously, pedaling with all her might.
He Fang took a deep breath and rallied herself. “Wen Wan, I’m fine. I know I can’t pass out; my body can’t handle it.”
Actually, she felt a little dizzy, but she knew what she had to do, so she kept talking.
Hearing He Fang’s rambling, Wen Wan pedaled even faster.
The trip, which usually took half an hour, was completed in less than twenty minutes.
Once there, Wen Wan threw the bicycle aside and rushed into the hospital carrying He Fang. “Help! Doctor! Doctor!”
“The doctor is this way…” A nurse, seeing the blood on He Fang’s sleeve, rushed forward and took Wen Wan to the emergency room.
After the commotion, seeing the doctor hook He Fang up to an IV, Wen Wan finally relaxed, sitting down in a chair to catch her breath.
“Comrade, you need to pay the medical fees,” the nurse said, patting Wen Wan’s shoulder. “Don’t worry, your friend will be fine.”
Wen Wan smiled. “Nurse, I’ll pay the fees, then I have to go somewhere. Please take care of her.”
“No problem, go ahead.”
With that, Wen Wan hurried off.
After paying the medical bills, Wen Wan immediately went back to the hospital entrance, got on her bicycle, and headed to the police station.
Meanwhile, Wen Jianguo dragged Er Laizi into the police station. Before he could speak, Er Laizi let out a wail that startled everyone in the station.
“Police comrade, help! Someone’s trying to kill me!” Er Laizi sat down, crying and shouting. Wen Jianguo had really roughed him up on the way.
Wen Jianguo’s eyes widened in anger. “Er Laizi, don’t lie to the police.”
The guy had been crying and apologizing on the road, but now he was trying to shift the blame.
Lu Aiguo’s eyebrows furrowed. “What’s going on? Why are you yelling?” Coercing others was illegal.
“Police comrade, you are like the bodhisattva who saves suffering people… I’m innocent… The Wen siblings beat me, they broke my hand!”
Er Laizi held up his right hand, trying to emphasize that the Wen siblings were the aggressors.
Lu Aiguo suppressed his disgust. A grown man acting so coy and dramatic was truly irritating.
“Alright, tell us what happened, stop crying,” Lu Aiguo said sternly, slapping the table.
Er Laizi froze, unable to react, and just stared at the table, thinking of a strategy.
