Chapter 33: Misunderstanding
Suddenly, at the health team, the morning was not particularly busy.
Doctor Liu looked at Lin You, who was engrossed in her book, and curiously asked, “Doctor Lin, the squad leader and the others have returned, right?”
Lin You nodded.
Xiao Nan and Xiao Bei exchanged glances and silently communicated, “Doctor Lin and the squad leader must have had a fight, otherwise, it wouldn’t be so quiet. She hasn’t said a word since work started.”
In the Captain’s Office
After reporting on the mission, Qin Lang also shared what had happened last night.
The captain looked troubled “Qin Lang, I didn’t expect Qiong Hua to be like this. However, we still need to inform her father.”
“After all, her father knows your father.”
“He intended for you to marry his daughter back in the day.”
Qin Lang snorted coldly, stood up, and walked to the window, looking in the direction of the health team.
The captain came over and patted his shoulder “Your wife seems to have a good temper, but she can be quite sensitive, it probably won’t be easy to smooth things over.”
“Should I let my wife step in to persuade her?”
Qin Lang directly refused “No need, I can handle it myself.”
The captain appeared doubtful.
Qin Lang turned back to ask, “When can Qiong Hua leave the base?”
“We’re waiting for her father’s notification. Qiong Hua is very capable, but she’s been blinded by love.”
Seeing that Qin Lang showed no emotional change, the captain joked, “You don’t seem to have much charm, yet your wife is jealous over Qiong Hua. It seems Qiong Hua is also quite devoted to you.”
“No wonder your dad said that many girls pursued you in high school.”
After circling around Qin Lang, he concluded, “I can’t see any charm, you’re just plain.”
Qin Lang looked up at the ceiling, said nothing, and left the office.
After Work
When Lin You reached her doorstep, she realized she had forgotten her keys and, not wanting to look for Qin Lang, turned back toward the health team.
Coincidentally, she ran into Lu Li and Li Yang.
“Sister in law, off work?”
“Yeah.”
“Why are you heading back again?”
“I forgot my keys.”
Lu Li kindly reminded her, “It’s quite a distance back to the health team, just go find the captain up front, it’s closer.”
Lin You nodded but remained silent, continuing toward the health team.
Lu Li was about to warn her that she was going the wrong way, but Li Yang stopped him.
“Sister in law is upset after arguing with the captain,” Li Yang explained.
Lu Li looked at Li Yang with suspicion, thinking, Lin You seems to have a good temper, how could she argue with anyone? He curiously asked, “Why did they argue?”
“It seems it’s about Qiong Hua, she should be leaving the special forces.”
Li Yang then recounted everything that had happened last night in detail.
Upon hearing this, Lu Li immediately expressed his anger “This is all the captain’s fault, Qiong Hua deserves it!”
He turned and rushed toward Lin You, calling out for her to come back.
Li Yang watched Lu Li’s retreating figure, puzzled by his sudden agitation.
When Lu Li reached Lin You, he said a few words to her, and then they both walked toward the door.
Lu Li easily removed the pin from his sleeve and gently inserted it into the lock, making a slight adjustment before successfully opening it. Lin You looked at the open door with delight, exclaiming, “Great! Thank you! Come in and sit for a while.”
However, Lu Li waved his hand to refuse “No need, sister in law, you should hurry back.”
Lin You felt a bit guilty, considering he had helped her. She quickly said, “Wait a moment.”
Then she dashed back inside to grab some fruit she had bought earlier and offered it to the two of them. They both felt shy about accepting it but couldn’t refuse.
“Take it, I really can’t eat it all. Just consider it your help to me,” Lin You said sincerely.
Seeing them take the fruit, a genuine smile finally appeared on Lin You’s face today.
Suddenly, Lu Li spoke up “Sister in law, you look a lot like my aunt, but unfortunately, I haven’t seen her in a long time.”
Lin You didn’t know how to respond to this comment.
Li Yang looked at Lu Li with curiosity, unable to hold back “How old is sister in law? Who is your aunt? How could she possibly look like your aunt?”
Lin You quickly changed the subject “The phrase ‘Banluliqi Shang’ should be the source of your name, right? It seems your father has high hopes for you, wishing you a bright future.”
Lu Li nodded in agreement.
Li Yang then gave Lin You a thumbs up, praising, “Sister in law actually understands poetry, that’s amazing!”
Lin You smiled slightly but soon fell silent again as she turned and walked into the house.
The two of them felt somewhat bewildered, and when they turned back, they found Qin Lang quietly standing at the entrance of the hallway.
“Captain, you’re back! Sister in law forgot her keys, and we came to help her open the door,” Li Yang explained.
“Only you two are useful, can’t she come to me for it herself?” Qin Lang said flatly.
Remembering Lu Li’s earlier words, Qin Lang stopped and turned back to him, reminding, “Lu Li, if you have something to say, just tell me directly.”
After a pause, he added, “But I don’t want you to contact her first.”
Lin You returned to the house, locking her bedroom door behind her.
Qin Lang looked at the closed door, sighed helplessly, then silently walked out to sit on the couch outside. After thinking quietly for a moment, he finally stood up, walked to the bedroom door, and gently knocked a few times, softly saying, “Yoyo, you don’t need to be on duty today. Let’s go out for dinner together.”
There was no reply from inside the room.
Qin Lang felt a bit disappointed but didn’t want to give up easily.
He turned to the kitchen, found a toothpick, and easily used it to unlock the door.
When he walked into the bedroom, he happened to see Lin You changing clothes. A blush instantly crept onto his face, and he hurriedly covered his body with his hands.
Seeing this, Qin Lang’s lips curved slightly into a sly smile. He quickly stepped forward, disregarding Lin You’s resistance and refusal, and forcibly helped her put on a coat, tightly holding her hand as he prepared to take her out.
Lin You struggled desperately but couldn’t break free from Qin Lang’s grasp. People passed by occasionally on the road, and she couldn’t shout loudly.
With no choice, she could only passively follow Qin Lang.
They walked all the way to the parking lot, where Qin Lang opened the car door and pressed her into the passenger seat, then started the engine and drove off.
Throughout the ride, aside from Qin Lang’s voice, there was silence in the car.
“Qiong Hua has admitted that all those were lies she made up. I did save her, but the injuries on my body weren’t caused by her, and I never gave her a necklace.”
“You’re right, it was indeed my fault to let her fall for me.”
“I’ve already notified Qiong Hua to apply for a discharge and go home. From now on, she will no longer appear in front of us.”
“And she won’t trouble you anymore, I overlooked Qiong Hua’s obsession.”
Lin You quietly listened to him, remaining silent the whole time.
He didn’t understand the real reason she was angry. The reason Qiong Hua dared to treat her this way was simply because of his special care for Qiong Hua, which gave her the audacity.
Otherwise, why wouldn’t others dare to? Was his caring attention to her that day also fake?
Thinking of this, Lin You’s heart grew heavier.
