Chapter 44: Lu Li’s Confession
After Qin Lang finished speaking, he continued to stare at Lu Li without saying another word.
Lu Li felt uneasy under his gaze, realizing that Qin Lang already knew everything. This meeting was a chance for him to come clean, so there was no need for concealment.
Taking a deep breath, he confessed directly, “Captain, Lu Jing is my aunt, and my sister in law is my cousin.”
Although he had suspected this for some time, hearing the admission from Lu Li himself still shocked him. He sat back down and asked, “Why did you choose to apply to a military academy? As far as I know, you’re the only son in the Lu family.”
Lu Li took a deep breath, looked into Qin Lang’s eyes, and replied, “Back then, my grandfather and father searched through all the adoption lists in C City but couldn’t find my sister. They suspected she was adopted by a military family, but we had no way of verifying it. Eventually, by chance, I applied to a military academy.”
Qin Lang had no doubt about his words. The Lu family from Kyoto had made their fortune in real estate but had switched to the internet economy just before the red light district emerged. It must be said that Lu Li’s father, Lu Zhouchen, was a very insightful businessman.
Qin Lang placed his cigarette in the ashtray and spoke again, “Have you told your father about Yoyo’s situation?”
“My father already knows everything.”
Qin Lang stood up abruptly, slapping the table in anger, “Lu Li, you’re violating regulations by casually leaking military family information.”
Lu Li didn’t mind his anger and casually moved to a chair nearby, replying, “Captain, there’s no need to act so seriously. Since you know everything, you’ve already investigated thoroughly and know I haven’t violated any rules, otherwise, why would you be here talking to me now?”
Qin Lang looked at him appreciatively, “I must say, the Lu family is quite clever.”
“Of course, I’m trained by you.”
Qin Lang walked over to him, leaned against the desk, and offered Lu Li a cigarette, continuing to ask, “Your grandfather didn’t agree to your aunt marrying a soldier. Now your cousin is marrying one too. What does your father think?”
Lu Li lit the cigarette, glanced at Qin Lang, and replied without hesitation, “My father says it’s fate. There’s nothing we can do. Later, my grandfather regretted his initial disapproval.”
Qin Lang nodded in agreement.
Fate is something unseen and intangible, yet it has a predetermined course that won’t let you stray too far. Even if you do veer off, it still keeps you on the right path.
Lu Li revealed his father’s request “My dad wants to meet my sister.”
Seeing that Qin Lang didn’t respond, he continued earnestly, “Dad has missed her and her child for 30 years. When he heard about my sister, he was very excited and hopes the captain can facilitate this.”
Qin Lang disliked Lu Li’s formality “Even if she is your sister, you should still refer to her as your sister in law.”
Lu Li was speechless, what was the big deal about the titles? They referred to the same person.
Qin Lang pondered for a moment and told Lu Li, “I didn’t mention this to Yoyo. The health team will be going to Kyoto for a skills competition at the end of the year, so let’s plan for that.”
Lu Li stood up and saluted Qin Lang.
“Thank you, brother in law. I’ll inform my father this weekend.”
When Qin Lang heard the change in address, he picked up a bottle of mineral water and threw it at him.
Lu Li hurriedly ran out.
Before long, Lu Li’s voice came from the doorway again, “Report.”
“Come in.”
Qin Lang glared at him and asked, “Is this never ending? What else do you want?”
“On Saturday night, I’d like to invite my sister and brother-in-law for dinner.”
Qin Lang rolled his eyes at him but nodded in agreement.
Then he added, “Our relationship needs to remain confidential, be mindful of the impact.”
“What does my sister like? I want to prepare a gift for her.”
“She doesn’t lack for anything.”
“That won’t do, the Lu family has plenty of money. There’s no need to be polite.”
“Then I’ll just give her money.”
“Lu Li, are you looking for trouble? The Qin family isn’t lacking in money either.”
“Okay, got it. I’ll take care of buying something. Just remember to tell my sister.”
Later that evening, after dinner, Qin Lang watched as Lin You emerged from the bathroom.
He took the towel from her hand, dried her hair, and used a hairdryer to help her finish drying off.
Once everything was done, Qin Lang held her on the sofa, enjoying the scent of her body wash while toying with her long hair, contemplating how to broach the topic.
Lin You, however, didn’t notice anything unusual.
Turning to hug Qin Lang’s waist, she nestled against his neck and softly complained, “My back hurts.”
Qin Lang carried her to the bed and gently massaged her slender waist, causing Lin You to feel comfortable enough to almost fall asleep.
While massaging, he compared her waist and noticed that she seemed to have lost weight.
“Wife, why do you seem to have lost some weight?”
“No way, I’m over 100 pounds now. I never surpassed that before.”
Qin Lang nodded, in fact, Lin You’s figure wasn’t considered thin she had curves in all the right places and was the kind of figure that everyone envied: slim in clothes but curvy without them.
Lin You didn’t hear Qin Lang’s response and assumed he was tired.
She turned over and looked at Qin Lang.
“What’s wrong?”
“Much better, no need, let’s just rest for a bit.”
Qin Lang lay beside her, pulling her into his embrace.
“Yoyo, do you think about your parents now?”
Lin You lifted her head, looking at him in confusion.
Qin Lang pulled her back into his arms and softly said, “All these years, your relatives have been looking for you.” He lifted her chin to look into her eyes and added, “It’s your uncle, he contacted me recently.”
Lin You sat up, leaning against the headboard, and stared at Qin Lang.
“Uncle?”
Lin You recalled that although she had never met her mother’s family, she knew they were in Kyoto. Her mother often mentioned her uncle, saying he was the most important man in her life apart from her father.
Qin Lang watched her reminisce, leaning against the headboard and pulling her into his embrace.
Her mother had said that her uncle had been studying abroad and would visit them in C City when he returned, but he never showed up until after her parents passed away.
Her mother never mentioned her grandparents, and when Lin You occasionally asked, she would just gaze toward Kyoto without saying anything.
Seeing that Lin You seemed to have pondered enough, Qin Lang continued revealing the truth
“Lu Li is your uncle’s son.”
“What?”
“It’s true, they have been looking for you all along. However, when they brought you to the Qin family, very few people knew. It wasn’t until Lu Li met you here that they began to suspect.”
After hearing this, Lin You simply hugged Qin Lang without saying a word.
Qin Lang spoke softly above her head, “Tomorrow is Saturday, Lu Li wants to invite us for dinner.”
Lin You still remained silent. Qin Lang understood her feelings, for so many years, her life had revolved around the Qin family, and she had never considered that there might be other relatives out there. It was natural for her to find it hard to accept all at once.
With a sigh, Lin You happened to look up at him.
He asked gently, “Yoyo, what do you think of Lu Li?”
“He seems nice.”
“Yoyo, regardless of whether you can accept it, for both emotional and rational reasons, you should meet them. It’s not just for your mother’s sake, you shouldn’t let them down after searching for you all these years.”
