Chapter 48: Inheritance
Since it wasn’t her own home, Lin You didn’t sleep well despite the comfortable environment. She was already a bit of a light sleeper, and without Qin Lang by her side, she likely wouldn’t have fallen asleep at all.
Compared to her, Qin Lang slept deeply and dreamlessly through the night.
In the early morning, sunlight filtered through the curtains into the room. Qin Lang, with his usual precise internal clock, was the first to wake up. He looked over at Lin You, still sleeping soundly beside him, and a soft smile appeared on his face.
Seeing her peaceful slumber, he got up quietly, taking care not to disturb her. He dressed silently, then slipped out of the room after a quick wash.
When he reached the courtyard, Lu Li was just coming downstairs. They exchanged a smile and, with an unspoken agreement, went for a morning jog together.
“Brother in law, how was your night?”
Hearing the title, Qin Lang raised an eyebrow. Lu Li quickly added with a chuckle, “This is the rich district, after all, I figured it was time to be a bit more formal. If you’d prefer, I can call you Qin Lang.”
Qin Lang gave him a playful glare, thinking he might have been too indulgent with Lu Li in the past. He picked up the pace and continued running.
When Qin Lang returned to the room, Lin You was still asleep, seemingly unaware of the world around her. He walked to her side and, watching her serene face, gently whispered, “Yoyo, wake up, it’s time to get up.”
Upon hearing his voice, Lin You slowly opened her eyes. Seeing him, she smiled, stretching out her arms toward him. “What time is it? Qin Lang, hold me.”
Qin Lang, worried his body might feel too cold to her, wrapped her in the blanket as he lifted her. Lin You, however, draped her bare arms around his neck, lazily snuggling close like a sleepy little koala.
She was nothing like the capable woman from yesterday’s competition, instead, she looked soft and relaxed. Seeing her gradually dozing off again, Qin Lang gave her a gentle kiss on the forehead, whispering, “Sweetheart, it’s already past seven. I’ve been out for a run and back, and we’re at the Lu house. Lu’s parents are awake, so we should get ready.”
Hearing this, Lin You’s eyes shot open as she remembered where they were. Blushing, she looked at him and said quietly, “Then, can you get me an outfit?”
Qin Lang nodded softly and turned to find her something to wear.
As he approached the suitcase, he recalled that Lu Li had mentioned the previous night that Lu’s mother had prepared clothes for them both, and it might be more polite to wear those today.
He set the suitcase aside, went to the wardrobe, and opened it, finding a variety of clothing in different styles and seasons, all neatly hung.
Qin Lang was touched by Lu’s mother’s attentiveness. Glancing at Lin You, he saw her gazing back at him, and they shared a knowing smile.
Though Qin Lang and Lin You had always lived comfortably and never worried about money, they were not accustomed to extravagance. Lin You knew luxury brands but always prioritized comfort and simplicity over labels. The Qin family, too, kept a low profile, and though Professor Song had bought her some luxury items, they were understated compared to what Lu’s mother provided.
Lin You chose a simple, loose beige sweater paired with light, fitted jeans and white sneakers, creating a fresh and relaxed look. Qin Lang opted for a casual outfit that complemented hers.
As they came downstairs together, Mrs. Lu immediately noticed the clothes and beamed with satisfaction.
“Oh, you two look perfect together in those! So well matched!” she said joyfully.
Lin You smiled, replying, “Thank you, Auntie, for going to so much trouble.”
Qin Lang added his thanks, “Yes, thank you, Auntie.”
Mrs. Lu waved it off. “It was nothing, I was just worried they might not fit.”
Mr. Lu joined them and asked, “Do you two have any plans for today?”
Lin You looked at Qin Lang, who then spoke up, “No, we’re happy to follow your plans.”
“Alright, after breakfast, we’ll head to the company together.”
They arrived at the Lu Corporation building.
Qin Lang noted that the company was located in the city center, a premium area where every inch of space was costly. Owning such a building here showed the Lu family’s formidable resources. No wonder Lu’s mother was so generous, and Lu Li could be so carefree.
Lu Li, despite his wealthy background, lacked the typical bad habits of a rich family’s heir and was diligent, which made Qin Lang appreciate the Lu family and Lu Li even more.
In Mr. Lu’s office, he asked Lin You and Qin Lang to sit down, saying he’d fetch something, and then walked into another room, leaving the two of them alone. Lu Li lounged on the sofa, looking entirely at ease, as if he already knew what was coming.
A moment later, Mr. Lu returned with a stack of documents, placing them on the table in front of them. He explained, “These represent the Lu family’s assets.”
Lin You looked at Qin Lang in confusion, who was also perplexed.
Mr. Lu pulled one document from the stack and handed it to Lin You. She glanced at it, but the densely packed numbers and charts were incomprehensible, so she handed it to Qin Lang.
Qin Lang examined it closely and realized it was an inheritance list. The amount was staggering, leaving him speechless.
Mr. Lu patted Lin You’s hand, smiling kindly, “Yoyo, there’s no need to refuse. These assets were left by your grandmother for your mother. Over the years, since we hadn’t found you, I’ve been managing them. Now that you’re here, it’s only right that they’re returned to you.”
Lin You, however, shook her head firmly and immediately refused. “No, Uncle. We really don’t need it.”
Her resolve was clear in her gaze.
Seeing Mr. Lu’s hesitation, Qin Lang placed the document back in his hands, explaining, “Uncle, our family has its own assets. But due to my unique position, neither Lin You nor I hold personal wealth. This money doesn’t hold much significance for us and could bring unnecessary trouble. We want to live independently through our own efforts, without relying on family wealth.”
“This inheritance isn’t something we car will accept.”
Lu Li spoke up to support them, “Dad, just letting her know is enough. There’s no need for them to actually take it; it could cause unwanted issues.”
Lin You nodded, agreeing with him.
Mr. Lu, touched by their sincerity, finally relented. He understood young people’s desire for independence and their pursuit of personal goals.
He reminded Lin You and Qin Lang that if they ever needed anything, they should come to him.
