Chapter 52: Li Yunfeng
Back in City C, Qin Lang and Lin You have been inseparable these past few days.
Qin Lang took her to experience almost everything couples usually do.
No longer needing to envy others, Qin Lang just wants to spend his free time wholeheartedly with her, doing everything she wants.
Today, the two of them went to an amusement park. Lin You was as excited as a child. Despite some rides being overly thrilling for her, she was eager to try them.
She was especially drawn to the high altitude rides, although scared, she couldn’t resist challenging herself.
Throughout the day, Lin You remained in high spirits, and as they left, she was still reluctant to go.
Qin Lang looked at her indulgently. “Next time we come, we can continue.”
As they left the amusement park, someone suddenly called out, “Qin Lang!”
Qin Lang turned his head in confusion, surprised to see a familiar but unexpected face. It was none other than Captain Li Yunfeng, whom he had sparred with during the last drill! Standing beside Li Yunfeng was a lady and two children, a boy and a girl obviously his family.
Both parties were shocked, then moved to a quieter spot.
They patted each other on the shoulder. “I never thought I’d run into you here.”
Qin Lang introduced Lin You warmly, “Yoyo, this is Captain Li.”
Then he turned to introduce Lin You to Li Yunfeng. “This is my wife, Lin You.”
Lin You greeted politely, “Hello.”
“Hello.”
Li Yunfeng then introduced his family. “This is my wife, Li Jing, and our children, Bao Bao and Bei Bei.”
“Hello, Uncle and Auntie.”
“Hello.”
Looking at the two children, Qin Lang remarked, “Brother Li, you’re blessed, they’re adorable.”
Li Jing responded, “Yes, but they can be a bit mischievous.”
Bei Bei kept looking at Lin You, who smiled back at her, causing Bei Bei to shyly lower her head.
Lin You chuckled at her shyness.
Bei Bei tugged at Li Jing’s clothes and whispered, “Mom, Auntie is so pretty.”
Lin You squatted down to her level, gently brushing her hair. “Bei Bei is very pretty, too.”
Bei Bei instantly beamed with joy.
Qin Lang warmly invited Li Yunfeng’s family, “I promised last time to treat you to a meal. Come to our house!”
Li Yunfeng glanced at Li Jing, who didn’t object, so he agreed readily. “Sure, tonight we won’t leave until we’re tipsy!”
On the way, Lin You learned more about Captain Li’s background.
Both he and his wife were from City C, though Lin You had never heard of them before. Qin Lang explained that their fathers knew each other.
They arrived at Qin’s home together.
Seeing Qin’s father, Li Yunfeng greeted him warmly. “Uncle Qin, it’s been a while.”
“Yunfeng, how’s your father? It’s been ages since your family came back to City C.”
“He’s doing well, still as stubborn as ever. I returned for New Year’s this year, and I’ll bring Grandma to reunite with him in Changdong City afterward.”
“That’s good. Tonight, I’ll join you for a few drinks.”
“It’d be my honor.”
From their conversation, Lin You realized why she hadn’t heard of them before they hadn’t been in City C for years.
The women went to the kitchen to prepare the food while the men chatted in the living room.
Since it was New Year’s, there were plenty of ready to eat dishes, so they quickly sat down for dinner.
The men continued drinking and talking, while the women and children finished eating sooner and moved to another area to chat.
Curious, Li Jing asked Lin You, “Are you and Captain Qin newly married?”
Lin You smiled. “No, we’ve been married for over six years. This is our seventh year together.”
Surprised that they had been married for so long yet still so affectionate, Li Jing wondered if they had any children and asked, “So, do you and Captain Qin have any kids?”
Lin You replied, “Not yet.”
“Oh?”
Lin You explained, “I was studying all this time, so we hadn’t gotten around to it.”
“I see.”
Looking at the children around her, Lin You felt that Li Jing was truly blessed to be so young and already have a son and daughter. Captain Li was only two years older than Qin Lang, too.
Seeing Lin You’s gaze, Li Jing smiled and asked, “Are you envious?”
Lin You nodded.
“Children are the hope in life. Yunfeng is busy with work in the squadron and rarely home, but having the kids around makes life much more fulfilling.”
Lin You nodded in agreement, finding Li Jing’s words very true.
Noticing Lin You’s expression, Li Jing quickly added, “Since you and Captain Qin are stationed together, you can afford to take your time. Enjoying a few more years as a couple isn’t a bad thing.”
Lin You smiled and nodded, saying nothing more.
But deep down, she felt puzzled. “We’ve never used any precautions, why haven’t I gotten pregnant yet? Qin Lang should be fine, so could there be something wrong with me? But that doesn’t seem right, either.”
Sensing her distraction, Li Jing asked, “Is something wrong?”
Lin You quickly shook off her thoughts and replied, “No, nothing at all.”
Li Jing cautiously asked, “Did I say too much? I tend to speak too bluntly, please don’t take it to heart.”
Lin You quickly reassured her, “Not at all, Sister! I really like your straightforward personality. You’re so honest, and you’ve raised Bao Bao and Bei Bei so well it’s truly admirable.”
Professor Song, who had joined them, also took a liking to Bao Bao and Bei Bei.
“It seems you two get along very well. You should stay in touch more often.”
Both of them agreed.
After several rounds, the men had drunk quite a bit, and the conversation turned more casual.
Captain Li suddenly spoke up, “Qin Lang, don’t be so domineering next time!”
Hearing this, Qin Lang frowned, “Oh? How am I domineering?”
Captain Li sighed and vented his frustration. “Whenever we finally train a good prospect, your squad takes them! And then, sometimes they’re sent back to us. What are we supposed to do?”
Qin Lang patted him on the back. “We’re dealing with real combat here. If we didn’t select talent from the squads, would we just pull people randomly from the streets?”
“And remember, I always keep you in mind. Didn’t I treat you to lamb last time?”
Captain Li scoffed. “Oh, thank you very much.”
Qin Lang laughed, “No need for thanks.”
Both of them burst into laughter.
At that moment, Qin’s father raised his glass and said to Captain Li, “Yunfeng, let’s have another drink. Although we serve in different roles, we’re both here for the people.”
“Let’s not dwell on minor matters.”
