Chapter 61: Promises
Suddenly, Captain Song saw Qin Lang finish speaking with the team leader and hurriedly waved to him, enthusiastically calling out, “Team Leader, come over here to eat! We’ve been waiting for you.”
At the dining table, Qin Lang often served dishes to Lin You, placing food into her bowl.
This gesture had long become a common sight for the health team members, but Wang Xin couldn’t help but feel a wave of disappointment.
After the meal, the two went to check on Lu Li before preparing to go home.
On the way, they were both silent, seemingly lost in their own thoughts.
Upon returning home, as soon as they closed the door, Lin You turned around and tightly hugged Qin Lang, who embraced her without hesitation.
Lin You broke the silence first, speaking softly, “Qin Lang, I finally understand why my mother made those decisions back then. If I were in her position, I might have made the same choice.”
Qin Lang gently lifted her chin, looking into her eyes with a firm tone, he said, “No, you can’t.”
“I understand the fear you felt when you saw Lu Li today, worrying that if something happened to me one day, you might not hold up and would make the same decision your mother did.”
Lin You nodded, tears streaming down her cheeks as she buried her head in Qin Lang’s embrace again.
Qin Lang held her tightly, feeling her tremble, his heart filled with pity for her.
Gently, he picked her up and walked toward the bedroom, sitting on the edge of the bed.
Qin Lang quietly watched her and spoke again, “Yoyo, if one day something really happens to me, I just hope you can live well, carrying on with my spirit.”
Lin You looked up again, her eyes blurred with tears as she shook her head and choked out, “No, you know I’m not that strong.”
Qin Lang stroked her hair, gently comforting her, “You are stronger than you think.”
Lin You, tears streaming down her face, spoke in a low voice, “For my mother, my father was everything. Now that he’s gone, how can she have the courage to continue living in this world?”
“Although she chose my father, not me.”
“But I will no longer hold her past decisions against her or blame her. I just really miss her now, she must have been in great pain and distress back then.”
After saying this, she gazed deeply into Qin Lang’s profound eyes and declared, “And now, you are my everything.”
Qin Lang embraced her tightly again, expressing his deep feelings
“Yoyo, hearing you say that makes me very happy, because for me, you are also everything in my life. However, the meaning of life goes far beyond that.”
“If there are no others, how can there be our little family? I have to be responsible for my comrades, for my work, for my country and its people.”
“I’m sorry, but I can’t leave and let you go through such exhausting days.”
Lin You gently responded in his warm embrace, “I understand, but I’m still afraid.”
Qin Lang reassured her again, “Many times, you have to do things even if you’re afraid.”
“Perhaps one day, everything will take a turn for the better.”
“I also promise you that I will be doubly careful every time I carry out a mission. I will never let you live in fear and will not let you walk the same path as your mother.”
Lin You nodded, remaining silent, but her heart was filled with a mix of emotions, like a pot of mixed flavors overturned.
She couldn’t change Qin Lang’s career choice and could only support him silently. At the same time, she hoped that Qin Lang would pay attention to his safety and not let himself fall into danger. After all, she wanted to be with him for a long time, knowing and keeping each other for life.
Qin Lang understood her worries, the first time she saw a loved one get hurt, it was inevitable to feel afraid and overthink. Coupled with her up bringing, she had always lacked a sense of security. However, he had responsibilities now, and there was truly no way to have both.
He could only promise to return safely each time, to give her peace of mind.
Thinking of Lu Li, Lin You couldn’t help but frown and looked up at Qin Lang, asking, “Should we tell Uncle and Aunt about Lu Li?”
Qin Lang thought for a moment and replied, “Let’s ask Lu Li’s opinion tomorrow before deciding.”
“Okay.”
The next morning, Lin You arrived early at the health team to visit Lu Li.
She found Wang Xin already waiting at the bedside, and Lu Li was awake.
She hurried to the bedside and anxiously asked Wang Xin, “Senior Brother, how is Lu Li’s condition?”
“From the current situation, it should be fine.”
Lin You felt a little relieved but continued to worry and asked, “Does he need to be sent to the hospital for further checks?”
Wang Xin thought for a while and shook his head, “I don’t think it’s necessary for now.”
After saying that, he turned and left the ward.
Lin You turned back and focused her gaze on Lu Li in the bed, concerned and spouting a bunch of questions
“Lu Li, how do you feel?”
“Is there anywhere uncomfortable?”
“You really scared me! If something happened to you, how would I explain it to Uncle and Aunt…”
Lu Li smiled slightly, comforting her, “Sister, don’t worry, I’m fine.”
Lin You sighed softly and then said gently, “I made you some porridge, drink some first.”
As she spoke, she placed a pillow behind Lu Li to make him more comfortable.
Then, Lin You scooped some porridge into a bowl, sat down by the bed, and stirred it with a spoon.
“Come on, open your mouth.” Lin You took a spoonful of porridge, blew on it to cool it down, and brought it to Lu Li’s lips.
“Sister, my hand isn’t injured, I can manage it myself.” Lu Li said, feeling a bit embarrassed, and reached out to take the bowl and spoon.
Lin You insisted, “You just woke up, and your body is still weak. Let me feed you.” After saying that, she continued to bring the spoon to Lu Li’s lips.
Lu Li had no choice but to open his mouth and drink the spoonful of porridge. The temperature was just right, and the texture was soft and sweet, he couldn’t help but take a few more bites.
Seeing Lu Li eat, Lin You smiled and said, “Drink slowly, be careful not to burn yourself.”
After finishing a bowl of porridge, Lu Li felt much better. Lin You poured him a glass of water, reminding him to drink more.
“For the next few days, just eat some soft food. Once you recover, I’ll make you something delicious,” Lin You said gently to Lu Li.
“Okay.” Lu Li nodded in agreement.
Lin You cleaned the bowl and cup and returned to the room, finding Lu Li sitting on the bed in a daze. She walked over and sat beside him.
“Should we tell Uncle and Aunt?” Lin You asked softly.
Lu Li thought for a moment and replied, “Let’s not, so they won’t worry.”
Lin You nodded and said, “That’s what I think too. We can take care of each other, there’s no need to trouble them.”
The siblings exchanged warm smiles, their hearts filled with warmth and comfort.
