Chapter 64: Birthday

As Lin You prepared to go to the Third Municipal Hospital, both she and Qin Lang chose to keep quiet about it, not mentioning it to anyone else. After all, the world is unpredictable, without complete certainty, there was no need for others to know.

Qin Lang’s birthday was fast approaching. Last year, she had missed it because she hadn’t paid attention, and after all these years, she had never given him a birthday gift. This year, she was determined to prepare something special.

However, despite racking her brain, Lin You couldn’t figure out what Qin Lang liked or needed. He was not picky about food and had no particular hobbies, so she decided to wait until he came back to try and get hints.

One night, lying in bed, Lin You asked Qin Lang, who had his eyes closed, “Hubby, what do you like the most?”

Qin Lang opened his eyes and smiled, saying, “I like you the most.”

Lin You playfully punched him, “I’m serious!”

Qin Lang held her in his arms and gently said, “I’m serious too, I really like you.”

Feeling sweet inside, Lin You quickly changed the subject, “If you weren’t doing this job, what would you want to do the most?”

Qin Lang thought for a moment and replied earnestly, “Nothing. What I’m doing now is what I like the most.”

Lin You was left speechless. He truly was a classic man, trying to talk about interests with him was quite difficult. She realized she had to come up with an idea on her own.

The next day at work, Lin You was still lost in thought about what kind of birthday gift to get Qin Lang, so much so that she didn’t notice when the head nurse and Xiao Nan entered the office.

The head nurse exchanged a glance with Xiao Nan before quietly approaching Lin You from behind. Suddenly, Xiao Nan popped up in front of Lin You, shouting, “Dr. Lin, snap out of it!”

Startled, Lin You jumped up, heart racing, and exclaimed, “Oh my gosh, you scared me! When did you two come in?”

Xiao Nan rolled her eyes and replied, “We came in a long time ago. You were so lost in thought that you didn’t even notice us.”

The head nurse curiously asked, “Dr. Lin, what were you thinking about?”

Lin You didn’t respond to the head nurse’s question. Instead, her mind was occupied with what Qin Lang had mentioned a few days ago Shan Ye was already filing for marriage. With Shan Ye’s recent promotion, everyone in the team had started to address him as Team Leader Shan, and Qin Lang had become Team Leader Qin.

Thinking about this, Lin You turned to the head nurse and asked, “I heard Team Leader Shan is filing for marriage? When do they plan to hold the wedding?”

The head nurse blushed and replied, “After October 1st. We plan to have a simple wedding at the base so everyone can celebrate together.”

Xiao Nan happily chimed in, “That’s the best! We’ll all get to witness your happy moment.”

Lin You thought that she still had some time before going to the Third Municipal Hospital for her exam, so she wouldn’t leave before the National Day holiday.

Watching the head nurse’s satisfied expression, Lin You felt that the relationship between Shan Ye and the head nurse was sweet and deeply connected, suggesting they must have exchanged many gifts.

Carefully, she asked, “Head Nurse, what are you planning to give Team Leader Shan as a wedding gift?”

The head nurse shook her head, “I haven’t decided yet.”

Lin You pressed on, “Have you ever given Shan Ye a gift?”

Before the head nurse could answer, Xiao Nan jumped in eagerly, “The head nurse has given Shan Ye many gifts!”

Lin You felt this could serve as a reference and asked, “What kind of gifts specifically?”

The head nurse remained silent but looked at Lin You curiously, asking, “Dr. Lin, are you preparing to give Team Leader Qin a gift?”

Lin You’s face turned red instantly, she looked down, feeling embarrassed, “Um… it’s almost Qin Lang’s birthday.”

The head nurse thought for a moment and said, “When choosing a gift, you should consider each person’s interests. Most people prefer something practical.”

Lin You agreed, nodding in understanding. She thought that since tomorrow was Saturday, it would be a good opportunity to go with the head nurse and Xiao Nan to find a suitable gift.

She asked, “You two don’t have duty tomorrow, do you?”

“No, we don’t.”

“Great! Let’s go to the city together tomorrow.”

Xiao Nan happily nodded. Turning to the head nurse, she asked, “Head Nurse, do you want to come with us?”

“Of course!”

Lin You added, “But please don’t tell Team Leader Shan.”

The head nurse smiled and nodded, indicating she understood.

The next day, Saturday, when Qin Lang returned from morning exercises, he saw Lin You had already made breakfast and was setting the table. She never got up this early on weekends.

As he approached the sink to wash his hands, he curiously asked, “Why are you up so early? Isn’t it the weekend?”

Lin You handed him chopsticks as she answered, “Yes.”

Qin Lang sat down, still puzzled, “Then why not sleep a bit longer?”

“Because I’m planning to go to the city today.”

Qin Lang nodded in understanding and said, “Then I’ll go with you.”

Lin You exclaimed in confusion, “What? Don’t you have duty this week?”

“Nope, Shan Ye is on duty.”

Lin You thought about how she wanted to surprise him with a gift and realized if he came along, it would spoil the surprise. She quickly objected, “You should just rest at home.”

“Huh?”

“I already made plans with the head nurse and Xiao Nan. If you come, it will be awkward for everyone.”

“Okay.”

After breakfast, Qin Lang helped clean up the dishes while Lin You got dressed and prepared to leave.

Seeing her excited expression, Qin Lang cautioned, “Drive slowly, don’t be too late coming back, and be careful of sun exposure, it’s quite hot in the city.”

“Got it.”

The three quickly gathered in the parking lot, chatting and laughing as they headed to the mall in the city.

When they reached the men’s department, Lin You looked around but couldn’t find anything suitable. She ended up browsing through the men’s clothing section.

Finally, she picked a low key belt, two summer outfits, and a pair of sports shoes.

After leaving the men’s section, Xiao Nan leaned close to Lin You and whispered, “Dr. Lin, novels always say to give your husband men’s underwear, symbolizing loyalty, with my name adorning your waist.”

“Ah?”

The head nurse seemed to hear as well and nodded at Lin You.

“Buy it, he will like it.”

Feeling shy, Lin You steeled herself and entered the men’s underwear section. After reporting her height and weight, she bought the most expensive one and hurried out, barely even noticing what the saleswoman looked like.

When she exited, she saw Xiao Nan and the head nurse laughing, which made her too embarrassed to lift her head, so she urged, “Let’s go, let’s go.”

Seeing her flustered demeanor only made them laugh more freely.

At that moment, Lin You regretted listening to them and quickly walked ahead.
