Chapter 9: The World of Two – Part 3
Suddenly, as Lin You looked at the sun rising outside, she had a feeling that the weather was going to be nice. She chose a light yellow long sleeve dress that reached just below her calves, with her long hair casually cascading down her back, secured only with a delicate hairpin at the back of her head, without any other adornments.
The outfit was both simple and fashionable, not too revealing, and made her look gentle and charming.
When Qin Lang returned and glanced at her outfit for the day, he was very pleased.
He called her over to eat.
When she walked over, she saw breakfast consisted of youtiao (fried dough sticks) with soybean milk, pickles, millet porridge, a few boiled eggs, and several meat pies, feeling it was a bit too much.
“Isn’t this too much? I can’t possibly eat all this.”
“I wasn’t sure what you would like, so I just got a little bit of everything. If it’s not to your taste, we can buy more ingredients when we go out today. You can make breakfast yourself from now on,” Qin Lang replied.
“Okay.”
For breakfast, she only ate one boiled egg and one meat pie, drank a bowl of soybean milk, and felt full. Under Qin Lang’s urging, she drank another bowl of millet porridge, afraid that he might force her to eat something else, and quickly wiped her mouth, standing up to leave the table.
Qin Lang didn’t stop her, finishing the remaining food himself and tidying up the table.
Turning, he walked into the bedroom to change clothes, and when he came out, he was holding a beige sun hat, which he placed on her head.
“Even though the weather is cool here, the UV rays can be quite harsh. Don’t get sunburned,” Qin Lang reminded her, recalling the time he had taken her hiking when she didn’t have adequate sun protection and ended up with sunburned arms.
“Let’s go,” he said, taking her hand as they stepped outside.
Qin Lang led Lin You on a tour around the entire base, pointing out the locations of the medical team, cafeteria, soldiers’ dormitory, his office, the training area, and the combat area, so she could find him easily if she needed anything.
Along the way, they ran into his comrades, and Lin You responded graciously to their greetings, while Qin Lang possessively wrapped his arm around her as if worried someone might take his wife away.
When they reached the medical team located behind the training ground, on the right side of the cafeteria, Lin You realized it was quite far from the family quarters, requiring a long walk.
“The medical team is so far from the family quarters. Do we need to walk there?”
Seeing her troubled expression, Qin Lang gently patted her head and replied, “Yes, everyone walks to work. It’s only about 2000 meters away, so it’s not that far.”
“Just get used to it, walking is good for your health. Plus, the road is lined with trees, so it won’t be hot at all.”
“But won’t it be really cold in the winter?”
“When winter comes, you’ll get used to this road, and you won’t feel cold when you get home,” Qin Lang explained patiently.
“What if a soldier is injured and the medical team is far away? Do they have to walk there too?” Lin You asked.
“The medical team has military vehicles, of course, they don’t have to walk,” Qin Lang reassured her.
“That’s good,” Lin You said, feeling relieved.
At this moment, Qin Lang realized that his mother had really pampered his wife too much. Was this short distance really considered a walk?
Next, Qin Lang led Lin You to the back of the family quarters, where there was a parking lot filled with private cars, likely for the convenience of the soldiers.
“Is this our car?” Lin You asked as she sat in a black Volkswagen SUV.
“Yes, we bought it three years ago for convenience. You know how to drive, right? When I’m not around, you can drive yourself out, but don’t go alone; go with the nurses from the medical team,” Qin Lang advised.
“Okay,” Lin You replied cheerfully.
Qin Lang led her on quite a long detour, exiting through a side gate instead of the main entrance of the base.
“You can’t take private cars through the main entrance, you have to go around and use this side gate,” Qin Lang explained.
“I understand.”
All the way, Qin Lang informed Lin You about the route to the city, noting that it was actually quite close only about an hour’s drive. They passed by nearby towns, and he explained that after work, she could come to the town to buy groceries and fruits with her colleagues.
When they arrived in the city, they headed straight to the supermarket’s grocery section and bought various vegetables and meats.
Lin You watched as Qin Lang bought beef, lamb, and chicken, and then wanted to buy pork, especially lean meat, which she disliked.
“Let’s get some pork belly; it’s tasty for stir frying.”
Qin Lang picked up a large piece of pork belly and placed it on the scale. She wanted to say it was too much, but remembering his appetite, she decided not to stop him.
Lin You then picked out some seasonings and dried vegetables before preparing to leave.
Qin Lang stopped her and asked, “Aren’t you going to buy some fruits or snacks?”
“Aren’t there plenty of places selling fruit along the way? They look fresher,” she replied, recalling the fruit she had seen earlier.
“Snacks? Let’s go to the snack store next door,” he said as they walked.
Qin Lang carried several bags while Lin You felt that having a husband in the military was really convenient—she didn’t have to exert herself carrying things.
They spent the entire morning shopping for daily necessities. Even though Qin Lang was meticulous, he still missed some items, and Lin You took the opportunity to buy almost everything she could think of.
Seeing how serious and detail oriented she was while selecting items made Qin Lang feel very satisfied. She was truly preparing to live well with him, and she hadn’t shown any dissatisfaction with his unilateral decisions.
It didn’t matter what Lin You chose, he just needed to pay. The thought of coming home every day to see her and enjoy delicious meals made him feel that his decision to marry her was incredibly wise.
At noon, they picked a restaurant for lunch. Qin Lang even specifically chose a private room, and Lin You thought he was wasting money was it necessary for just the two of them?
However, Qin Lang didn’t share his reasoning. He had noticed that wherever Lin You appeared, people stopped to watch, he wasn’t going to let anyone gawk at his wife.
After sitting down, Qin Lang took out two bank cards and placed them in her hands.
“One of these cards is my bonus, and the other is my salary. From now on, keep them with you and buy whatever you want.”
Lin You didn’t accept them, instead, she refused, saying, “My mom already gave me plenty of money when I came, so I really don’t need it.”
“Take it, it’s not about taking your mother in law’s money, it’s about taking your husband’s money. That’s just not how it works,” he said, slipping the card into her bag.
“Do you want to buy anything else this afternoon?” Qin Lang asked.
“I want to buy some long-sleeve or short-sleeve t-shirts. My mom brought me a lot of tank tops and dresses, and I don’t know what she was thinking,” she said, looking at him with confusion in her eyes.
Qin Lang understood his mother’s intentions, seeing her naive and innocent look, he could only blame himself for not visiting home more often he certainly couldn’t expect his mother to teach her about relationships.
He sat next to her and whispered gently in her ear, “Kiss me once, and I’ll tell you the reason.”
Lin You was overwhelmed by his sudden intimacy and tempting voice, feeling her whole body tingle. Her face, neck, and even her ears turned red, and she hurriedly shifted away to create some distance between them.
At that moment, a female server knocked and entered to deliver their food, and Lin You was relieved it was a woman.
