Starting Off with a Paralyzed Husband, Turning the Tide Through Farming Chapter 19

“Brother Ah Heng, how can you do this? You know Lin Nannan isn’t in her right mind, yet you still side with her. We grew up together—do you really not believe me?” Han Yan protested indignantly.

“Lin Nannan is my wife!” Lu Heng declared without hesitation. He would stand by her, no matter what.

Han Yan was livid.

“She caused trouble! She called your unit and got them to drag you back…” In a fit of anger, she threw baseless accusations at Lin Nannan. Unfortunately for her, Lu Yuan had just returned and heard everything.

“Han Yan!” Lu Yuan was already fuming, and now, hearing Han Yan trying to sow discord, she completely lost it. She bellowed, “How dare you spout nonsense to my brother!”

Han Yan’s heart sank at Lu Yuan’s outburst. But she quickly steadied herself, turned to face Lu Yuan, and put on a pitiful expression. “Ah Yuan, how am I making things up? Wasn’t it Lin Nannan who called the unit and had them take your brother away?”

“It was my sister-in-law who made the call…” Lu Yuan started to explain, trying to clarify the situation, but Han Yan cut her off before she could finish.

“If there was an issue, couldn’t she have handled it properly? Instead, she went and ruined Brother Ah Heng’s reputation. If the people in the unit believe this, do you know what kind of impact it will have on him, Ah Yuan?”

“You—!” Lu Yuan’s face turned red with anger at Han Yan’s blatant twisting of the truth. She wanted to charge at her, but Lin Nannan held her back.

Lin Nannan smiled and said, “Let her talk. Your brother won’t believe her.”

“Why?” Lu Yuan asked, puzzled.

If she hadn’t been with Lin Nannan today, she might have been swayed by Han Yan’s words. She was genuinely worried that her brother would fall for Han Yan’s manipulation.

“Do you not trust your brother?” Lin Nannan countered.

If Lu Heng couldn’t even distinguish right from wrong in a situation like this, he might as well have lost his mind.

Of course, Lu Yuan trusted her brother. If he really believed Han Yan, she’d make her sister-in-law sleep in her room tonight!

Han Yan had been hoping for an argument, or even better, a fight. But because of Lin Nannan’s calm response, Lu Yuan held back her anger, leaving Han Yan in an awkward position.

“Go on,” Lin Nannan smiled encouragingly at her.

Han Yan wanted to continue, but under their piercing gazes, she couldn’t get a single word out.

“Nan Nan.” Lu Heng, having heard the commotion outside, immediately called for her.

Lin Nannan glanced at Han Yan before answering, “I’m here!”

“Come inside.”

“Okay.” She responded, then walked up to Han Yan with a smile. “Excuse me, you’re blocking the door.”

Han Yan clenched her fists in frustration but had no choice but to step aside.

“Ah Yuan, keep an eye on her,” Lin Nannan practically spelled out for Lu Yuan to be wary of Han Yan.

“I got it.” Lu Yuan beamed. She thought her sister-in-law was amazing—making Han Yan feel utterly stifled without even raising her voice.

As soon as Lin Nannan entered the room, she shut the door firmly, preventing Han Yan from eavesdropping.

The lighting inside wasn’t great, but that didn’t bother Lin Nannan. She walked straight to the bed and looked at Lu Heng. “Are you feeling unwell?”

Lu Heng saw her staring at him with such concern—just short of asking if he needed help going to the bathroom. He couldn’t help but twitch his lips before asking in a deep voice, “What happened? Were you bullied?”

Lin Nannan was pleased with his attitude. She sat at the bedside and replied, “They were badmouthing you. But you’re my husband—if they slander you, it’s the same as slandering me. Of course, I wouldn’t let that slide. Besides, rumors are a troublesome thing. So, to settle this once and for all, having the unit clarify the situation is actually a good thing—it’ll also serve as a warning to others.”
