Lin Nannan walked over and sat by the bed, reaching her hand under Lu Heng’s body to help him turn onto his side. “The others were reprimanded, and He Ye was taken away.”
“Why was she taken away?” Lu Heng asked, puzzled.
“What? You’re not happy about it?” Lin Nannan narrowed her eyes at him.
Lu Heng chuckled. “How could that be? It’s just that in cases like this, people usually just get criticized and warned. Why would they take her away? What else did He Ye do?”
The way he addressed her had changed ever since she had tried to throw dirt on Lin Nannan’s name.
“I don’t know!” Lin Nannan gently patted his back, her tone uncertain. “The people from the town questioned He Ye, and I don’t know what she said, but they took her away immediately.”
The steady rhythm of her small hand against his back made it hard for Lu Heng to think clearly—his mind was a complete mess.
“Do you think… she might have some secret identity?” Lin Nannan suddenly recalled something she had read while researching. In this era, the most likely hidden identity someone could have was that of a spy. She hesitated before voicing her suspicion.
“Impossible!” Lu Heng dismissed the idea without a second thought. “He Ye was born and raised in the village. There’s no way she has any other identity!”
“Then why was she arrested? Just for saying a few words about you?” Lin Nannan had originally just wanted to teach those people a lesson, but she hadn’t expected someone to actually get taken away.
Lu Heng couldn’t figure it out either, but before he could think any further, Lin Nannan kept flipping him back and forth, adjusting his position. While his body felt more comfortable, his mind was a complete mess.
“If there’s no real issue, they’ll probably release her in a couple of days. But when she comes back, if she stirs up trouble, be careful not to let her bully you,” he warned, still worried about his wife.
Lin Nannan adjusted his position and then grinned. “I hope she comes looking for trouble!”
That way, she could give her a proper beating.
Lu Heng thought about how strong she was and realized he was probably worrying for nothing.
“Nan Nan, come out and eat!” Grandma Lu’s voice called from outside.
“Coming!” Lin Nannan replied, then looked at Lu Heng. “I’ll come back later to turn you over again…”
Lu Heng didn’t refuse—he figured it wouldn’t make a difference even if he did. He would just have to get used to her unpredictable ways.
…
The Lu family didn’t have strict rules about meals. Everyone chatted and laughed as they ate, making for a lively atmosphere.
Lin Nannan, who refused to let anything delay her meals, was gnawing on a cornbread bun while listening to the family gossip. She found this kind of life quite enjoyable.
She’d be even happier if she could get the farmland sorted out quickly.
Thinking that she couldn’t afford to waste any more time, she sped up her eating.
“Slow down. If you’re still hungry, there’s more in the pot,” Zhang Xiaofeng reminded her when she saw how quickly she was eating.
“I’m full. I just want to go check on the fields. I can’t put it off any longer,” Lin Nannan said.
“But farming isn’t that simple,” Grandma Lu reminded her.
She knew that back when Lin Nannan lived with the Lin family, she had never done farm work. The Lin family had wanted to use her for free labor, but after she suffered brain damage, she would often run off into the mountains, refusing to listen to them. Because of that, she had never actually endured the hardships of farming.
“I know. First, we need to turn the soil. I’m strong—I can finish it in two days,” she said casually.
“I’ll help Sister-in-law!” Lu Yuan immediately volunteered.
Lu Ming hesitated and said, “Maybe I should help too?”
“Then all of you should go. Take the tools with you,” Grandma Lu decided right away.
With help on board, Lin Nannan urged them, “Hurry up! We need to go before the sun sets.”

Hey everyone! I hope you're enjoying what I'm translating.
