Chapter 15: Finding a Partner
Jiang Liyun made two more batches of pan-fried dumplings and selected the best-looking ones to put in enamel cups, planning to bring them to Feng Yi.
“Liyun, you’re going to bring dumplings to Feng Yi? Then bring some for your brother too,” Wu Xiaochun suggested quietly.
Jiang Liyun glanced at Wu Xiaochun and agreed, “Okay.”
Jiang Liyun was reborn on October 15th, and today was October 23rd, a week later. During this week, while preparing for the stall, she would also visit Feng Yi every day.
Her parents were ordinary rural farmers, and her younger sister was just a primary school student under ten. Sometimes, she didn’t know what to say to them, and they didn’t understand her.
Although Jiang Qianzi and Wu Xiaochun didn’t object, they always wanted her to give up the idea of setting up a stall.
Only Feng Yi would chat with her about setting up a stall, vigorously supporting her in this business endeavour and firmly believing that she would succeed.
Jiang Liyun enjoyed talking to him.
Every time she saw Feng Yi, her mood improved. She treated the act of meeting Feng Yi as her entertainment, a way to exercise, and a mood-enhancing activity.
In the first two days of her visits, Jiang Qianzi and Wu Xiaochun didn’t enquire about the specifics, but as she continued to visit Feng Yi, they naturally started asking questions.
Jiang Liyun then explained about Feng Yi helping her buy an iron pot, lending her money, and agreeing to join her in the stall business. She also mentioned Feng Yi helping with farm work.
After that, when she visited Feng Yi and brought him things, Jiang Qianzi and Wu Xiaochun didn’t say much.
Today, having made such delicious dumplings, they wanted Jiang Lihai to taste them.
Seeing Jiang Liyun agree, Wu Xiaochun was quite happy. She then cautiously went to eat her portion of dumplings.
Wu Xiaochun and Jiang Lihai had smaller appetites, and the dumplings they made were more substantial. Jiang Liyun gave each of them five dumplings.
She and Jiang Qianzi had a bit more, with each getting ten dumplings.
Jiang Liyun had bought some condiments over the past few days. When eating the dumplings, she poured some vinegar for herself.
However, the rest of the family didn’t use these condiments. In this era, the rural people in their village rarely used seasonings, and they were not accustomed to eating vinegar or spicy food.
Some shameless old employees could rest for two hours during the four-hour morning work shift.
Just a moment ago, Jiang Lihai wanted to take a break and have a sip of water, but Xie Zugen scolded him.
Jiang Lihai now hated Xie Zugen even more and couldn’t help but blame Jiang Liyun.
Feng Yi agreed, “Right! He’s not a good person!” How could this person speak ill of his sister Jiang Liyun? She’s such a good person!
“He’s just got an accountant father. Without his good dad, he’s nothing!” Jiang Lihai added.
“Exactly.” Feng Yi nodded in agreement.
Jiang Lihai felt that Feng Yi was quite sensible, and he enjoyed talking to him. He only dared to talk to Feng Yi and not others, fearing that Xie Zugen might find out.
While they were working, it was time for lunch. The workers at the brick and tile factory put down their work and rushed to the canteen.
Each of them had a lunch box and an enamel basin for the soup, provided by the factory. The lunch box was for rice, and the enamel basin was for soup.
Feng Yi scooped three or two bowls of rice and spent twenty cents on a basin of pig blood soup. He carried his food and left the canteen.
The canteen was not big, and there weren’t many tables and chairs inside. So, many people bought their food and ate outside.
They picked up a few bricks to stack as a table, a few more as stools, or just sat on the ground—very casual.
Jiang Lihai also bought pig blood soup and complained quietly that there wasn’t enough oil in the soup and that the starch used for thickening was too little, making the soup not thick enough.
As they chatted, Jiang Lihai started discussing national affairs he heard on the radio and shared his opinions.
Feng Yi wasn’t interested in these matters, but he knew what Jiang Lihai wanted to hear, so he commented, “Lihai Ge, you really know a lot.”
Jiang Lihai liked Feng Yi more and more. Thinking about how his sister Jiang Liyun had enchanted Feng Yi during this time, he wanted to remind Feng Yi.
As he raised his eyes, he saw Jiang Liyun approaching.
Jiang Liyun didn’t pay attention to Jiang Lihai; instead, she greeted Feng Yi with a warm smile and said, “Feng Yi!”
“Liyun jie.” Feng Yi immediately stood up, wanting to walk over to Jiang Liyun. However, he suddenly realised he was covered in dirt and hesitated to approach.
Jiang Lihai sat in place, feeling a bit redundant. Not only that, but why did he feel like his second sister had become more attractive?
Jiang Liyun had never cared much about her appearance. Even when her sister, Jiang Liping, tried to dress her up, she didn’t take it seriously. In her view, looking good doesn’t put food on the table, so what’s the point?
But she actually looked quite good. Wu Xiaochun was very attractive, and she resembled Wu Xiaochun more than Jiang Liping.
After her rebirth, she cared more about cleanliness than in her previous life. A healthy body and a bright future made her exude joy and confidence.
Amidst a group of grimy brick-and-tile factory workers, she naturally stood out.
“Are you having lunch? I had a day off today and made pan-fried dumplings at home. I brought some for you to taste.” Jiang Liyun walked over to Jiang Lihai and Feng Yi, handing them the enamel cups she carried.
“What’s a pan-fried dumpling?” Jiang Lihai curiously opened the cup, catching a whiff of the meaty aroma. Holding chopsticks in his hand, he picked one up and stuffed it into his mouth, his eyes lighting up.
This was too delicious!
“Second sister, these pan-fried dumplings are amazing!” Jiang Lihai was sincerely moved; his sister was truly exceptional.
Even though Jiang Liyun paid more attention to Feng Yi, she still cared about her brother. Previously, she had sent pickled vegetables for Feng Yi, but this time, she brought pan-fried dumplings with rich filling for her brother!
However, at this moment, Jiang Lihai noticed that Feng Yi had more dumplings in his enamel cup than he did.
Jiang Lihai: “SuSuddenly, the dumpling in his mouth didn’t taste as good.
On the other side, Xie Zugen had already finished his meal.
They ate earlier than ordinary workers.
After finishing his meal and intending to take a nap in his father’s office, Xie Zugen overheard someone chatting, “Jiang Liyun is here at the factory.”
“I’m probably here to see Feng Yi again.”
“The Jiang sisters are really good-looking.”
…
Upon hearing this, Xie Zugen, full of anger, went to find Jiang Liyun.
As he approached, he saw Jiang Liyun standing next to Feng Yi, looking at him with a smile while he sat on a brick, eating his lunch.
The last time Xie Zugen met Jiang Liyun was when they watched a movie together at night.
Back then, he thought Jiang Liyun looked decent but somewhat rustic. However, this time… Although she was still wearing ordinary clothes, the rustic aura seemed to have disappeared. She looked much better than before, and her gaze towards Feng Yi was particularly gentle.
Xie Zugen became even angrier!
Why would Jiang Liyun be interested in Feng Yi, that dirty-looking guy?
With a sarcastic tone, Xie Zugen said, “Jiang Liyun, you come to find Feng Yi every day. Are you trying to date him?”
Jiang Liyun was initially looking at Feng Yi.
When they met a few nights ago, Feng Yi was clean and refreshing. However, now he was covered in dust, as if he had rolled in the dirt. He still wore the patched-up, tattered clothes. It looked pitiful.
Instinctively feeling compassion, Jiang Liyun was about to express it when she heard Xie Zugen’s voice.
She looked up and saw the young Xie Zugen.
In her previous life, there was a period when she particularly hated Xie Zugen, almost wanting to dismember him.
She didn’t do anything wrong for Xie Zugen. In her previous life, after marrying him, she wholeheartedly wanted to live a good life with him.
She worked hard and earned money, all with the intention of building a good life for their family. She even made it clear how much money she earned. However, Xie Zugen never took her seriously. He even hid from her the fact that he lost so much money.
After the divorce, not only did Xie Zugen cause trouble in her shop, but he also tried to run her over with a car, wanting to kill her!
He was nothing short of an animal.
After her rebirth, Jiang Liyun knew she would encounter Xie Zugen sooner or later.
She thought she would be angry and resentful when she saw him. However…
Looking at Xie Zugen, she felt surprisingly calm.
After all, they had no relationship. Why should she get angry over an inexplicable person?
Hearing Xie Zugen’s comment, Jiang Liyun couldn’t help but smile.
In her previous life, she truly underestimated herself, falling for someone like Xie Zugen.
Seeing Jiang Liyun blink without saying anything, Xie Zugen, feeling a bit awkward, continued with malice, “You, a woman, have no shame? Come to the brick and tile factory every day to find a man.”
Jiang Liyun couldn’t help but laugh.
In her previous life, her experience was too shallow, making her fall for someone like Xie Zugen.
Seeing Jiang Liyun smiling, Xie Zugen, slightly stunned, felt like he might have gone too far.
However, at this moment, Jiang Liyun said, “I am dating Feng Yi. What’s wrong with me coming to find him?”
