Wen Ci put the gold bracelet from her bag onto her wrist. Rather than worrying about it being stolen from her bag, she decided to wear it openly.
With her skills, she wasn’t worried about thieves from the 1980s.
The train ride from the capital to the northwest took three days. After lying in the sleeper carriage for two full days, Wen Ci was bored to death. The carriage was filled with the lingering smell of a long journey.
There were only three hours left until they arrived at Haishi in the northwest.
Haishi was the provincial capital of the northwest, located in a more remote part of the region. After arriving in Haishi, they would still need to transfer to a bus for half a day.
Wen Ci suddenly sat up from the bed, thinking about her money-making plan. She could use her dowry to buy some goods at a wholesale store and then resell them!
In the past, this was called speculation.
But the country was gradually loosening restrictions and encouraging workers to start small businesses.
Excited, Wen Ci shared her plan with Huo Jingyuan: “Do you think it’ll make money?”
Huo Jingyuan shook his head. “No.”
The northwest was different from the southern regions. If Wen Ci were stationed in the south, her reselling plan would definitely make her a fortune.
The military compound in the northwest was very far from the city center!
Moreover, the road to the compound was restricted. Only military vehicles and a few buses were allowed to pass, making it a restricted area in the northwest.
“Why?” Wen Ci asked, puzzled.
Huo Jingyuan analyzed the situation for her from every angle. After listening, Wen Ci sighed softly. She had almost forgotten that she was going to the northwest.
It was almost noon.
Huo Jingyuan decided to change into his military uniform in advance. He took off his casual clothes, revealing his well-defined abs and sun-tanned chest.
“What are you doing?” Wen Ci exclaimed in shock.
Huo Jingyuan: “Changing into my uniform.”
Wen Ci: “…”
She got out of bed and put on her shoes, her eyes fixed on Huo Jingyuan’s shark-like abs. She coughed awkwardly. “I’ll go get us some boxed meals.”
Wen Ci would have liked to watch Huo Jingyuan change into his uniform in its entirety.
But their relationship hadn’t reached that level yet.
–
Wen Ci walked through the seated carriages, wrinkling her nose at the strong, indescribable stench. Her face was full of disgust.
The hard seats on this train were almost completely full.
The gold bracelet on Wen Ci’s wrist shone brightly, and coupled with her striking beauty, it attracted many gazes.
After passing through the hard-seat carriages, Wen Ci arrived at the dining car.
The food on the train was very expensive—50 cents!
Since Wen Ci and Huo Jingyuan had been arranged to leave at short notice and hadn’t prepared properly, they had to rely on the boxed meals provided by the train every day.
The boxed meal consisted of two meat dishes, with the only vegetable being an egg.
Wen Ci paid one yuan and took two boxed meals.
On her way back to the sleeper carriage, Wen Ci noticed a few men acting suspiciously near a young girl. The girl seemed to have bought a standing ticket.
She was crouched in a corner near the connection between the train cars.
Wen Ci walked over in a few steps and saw the daggers at the men’s waists. Her frown deepened as she scolded, “What are you guys trying to do?”
“Mind your own business!”
Hearing a woman’s voice, the men turned to look at Wen Ci.
As soon as they finished speaking, they noticed the gold bracelet on Wen Ci’s wrist and the boxed meals in her hands. Their hands moved toward their waists. “I thought you were just meddling, but it looks like you’ve delivered yourself to us?”
In the 1980s, thieves were rampant, especially on green trains. Losing belongings was a common occurrence, and outright robbery also happened.
Wen Ci noticed their gazes and raised her wrist, smiling. “You like what I have, huh?”
