Chapter 3
It was the winter of 1977. The country announced the resumption of the college entrance examination, and Xiao Hongling also participated.
She and He Linyuan grew up in the same compound, so she didn’t need to go to the countryside. But five years ago, He Linyuan married the original owner, and she couldn’t sit still anymore.
Over the years, she has been trying hard to break up the two, but military marriages are difficult to divorce, and the two also have a child, so Xiao Hongling’s efforts have never succeeded.
Although the results have not come out yet, it is a foregone conclusion that she will pass the exam. The difficulty lies in how to get He Linyuan to divorce Song Li and return to the capital with her.
Just when Xiao Hongling was at a loss, she received a call from He Cheng.
……
Captain Zhao said he would report it to the commune. Xiao Hongling wanted to make a scene again, but He Linyuan interrupted her and said, “I will tell Uncle Xiao about this. He knows what to do.”
Xiao Hongling almost harmed two children, He Linyuan would not let her go.
“Brother He, I didn’t mean it. I just can’t stand Song Li. Can you forgive me this time?” Xiao Hongling was scared now. Her parents were not happy with her chasing after He Linyuan. If they knew what she had done, they would definitely not let her off easily.
He Linyuan ignored her. She should be glad that Song Li didn’t really abandon the child.
He looked at the place where the wild boar had just rushed towards. It was only one meter away, and the two children would have been knocked into the trap. The trap was so deep that if they fell into it, they would either die or be crippled. Fortunately, nothing serious happened.
Xiao Hongling didn’t dare to vent her anger on He Linyuan. She looked at Song Li with resentment, which made Song Li sneer in her heart.
Although the original owner was just a cannon fodder, Xiao Hongling was not much better.
In the original book, she was a pawn of He Cheng. She did all kinds of stupid things in the name of loving He Linyuan, and was finally sent to prison by He Linyuan himself.
This time, He Cheng used his power to slander He Linyuan’s reputation, causing him to miss an important promotion opportunity. In addition, his two children were injured and disfigured, which led to He Linyuan’s early retirement.
Song Li looked at the man with sympathy. He was indeed a villain, with no normal woman around him.
He Linyuan, who was holding two children, felt his back tense. He always felt that this woman was up to no good.
“Li girl, where did you get this knife? It’s really sharp!”
Song Li carried the pig’s head and walked side by side with Captain Zhao and his men. Because of the wild boar, the people in the village treated her with much better attitude.
Song Li made a knife flower and answered casually, “I picked it up in the ravine. It might have been dropped by a hunter.”
“Then you should store it well. Someone might come looking for such a good knife.”
Although they didn’t see Song Li take action, they could tell from the wound on the wild boar’s neck that its head was cut off with one knife.
What a great knife.
“good.”
Song Li responded sweetly with two dimples on the corners of her mouth. She was already pretty, and suddenly she became well-behaved, which made everyone feel flattered.
It seems that the two children who almost got into danger made her feel afraid and changed her personality.
“Dad, she’s lying. The knife was not picked up in the ravine.”
He Mingze frowned and whispered that he and his sister didn’t see it at all when they went up the mountain.
He Linyuan’s dark eyes fell on the woman in front of him. He had noticed something unusual just now.
This woman didn’t pester him for the first time and even saved two children. Was she really scared?
He Linyuan lowered his eyes slightly, suppressing his doubts, “Well, don’t tell anyone about this.”
“I know.” The little guy frowned, feeling very conflicted.
“Qingqing won’t tell you either.” The little girl lay in her father’s arms, covering her mouth with her little hands, blinking her eyes, and was very well-behaved.
He Linyuan’s expression softened. Although that woman was unbearable, she gave him two well-behaved children.
For the sake of the two children, he couldn’t let it go on any longer.
……
The wild boar was carried to the brigade canteen. Although the commune no longer eats from a big pot, it is not possible for anyone to eat alone openly.
Song Li didn’t intend to embezzle the money. Given the original owner’s terrible reputation, if she wanted to continue living in the village, she had to establish good relationships with the villagers first.
Song Li put down the pig’s head in his hand and said to everyone with a smile.
“Uncles, you have helped me carry it down. Uncle Zhao, please help distribute it so that everyone can have some meat.”
“Hey, hey.”
Captain Zhao rubbed his hands together, his face flushed with excitement.
Daxingtun is very poor, and the villagers can only eat meat twice a year. Each family will get a small amount of this wild boar, but at least it can satisfy their cravings.
What made Captain Zhao even happier was that Song Li had really changed.
She used to be so protective of her food that she would never be willing to share it with others.
Captain Zhao looked at the villagers who were equally excited, cleared his throat and coughed twice.
“Li Yatou generously handed over the meat, so we should remember her kindness.”
“Don’t worry, Captain. We’ve all remembered it. I have a jar of pickled cabbage at home. I’ll send a bowl to Li Yatou later.”
“I have cornmeal at home, give it to Li Yatou too.”
“I have eggs at home.”
“……”
In the 1970s, people were mostly simple and honest, and a meal of meat could change the villagers’ attitude towards the original owner.
Captain Zhao gave her a piece of pork leg and a few bones, asking her to make soup to nourish the two children.
Mingze and Qingqing must have been cold after staying in the mountain for so long today.
The villagers tacitly did not mention the evil deeds done by the original owner, as if Song Li had just taken the children for a walk in the mountains.
Song Li took it with a smile. She was used to the intrigues of the apocalypse, and she hadn’t felt so relaxed for a long time.
However, when she reached the door of her house and saw the people from the Song family, the smile on Song Li’s face froze.
Song’s mother Zhang Xiu rushed over with a dark face, grabbed her arm and beat her, “What did I say? If you don’t want to raise the children, send them to your parents’ home and I will raise them for you. But you actually brought them up the mountain!”
Zhang Xiu was very disappointed. Their Song family had already let He Linyuan down, and Song Li kept courting trouble, ruining a good son-in-law.
“Luckily nothing happened this time. If anything had happened to the two children, do you think Lin Yuan would have divorced you?”
“Little sister did pass this time.”
Li Guizhi, the always honest second sister-in-law, couldn’t stand it anymore. She only had one daughter, and she usually protected her like the apple of her eye. Her sister-in-law simply didn’t know how to appreciate what she had.
Song Li was an orphan in her previous life and had lived in the apocalypse for fifteen years. This was the first time she was spanked. She said in a stern voice, “I know. I will treat Mingze and Qingqing well in the future.”
“You’d better remember this. Don’t say nice things but bully my two nephews behind their backs.” Zhang Xiu had seen through his daughter’s character. They were two good children, but she had to make them alienate her from her.
“Grandma, don’t scold Mom. Mom saved Qingqing and her brother.”
The little girl heard the noise outside and came out to support her mother.
She stood in front of Song Li, protecting her with her small body, which made Zhang Xiu feel so distressed that he couldn’t help but beat his daughter twice.
“Look how well behaved my nephew is. Can’t you, as a mother, be more careful?”
Zhang Xiu muttered a few words, stretched her neck to look into the room, and knowing that He Linyuan was not there, she whispered to her daughter.
“Lin Yuan is a cold-faced man with a soft heart. He values affection. If you treat the child better, will he divorce you? Go back and make dinner, heat the kang, and coax him into bed at night. Men are soft-hearted and don’t take hardship. Don’t stick your neck out like a fighting cock. Give in.”
Song Li’s face turned red when she heard this. Even though she was thick-skinned, she was still shocked by Zhang Xiu’s words.
What does it mean to coax her into bed? Because of He Linyuan’s cold and hard personality, he never touched the original owner.
If she hadn’t used it that night, I would have thought that men were no longer capable of it.
Song Li was in a daze. Zhang Xiu thought she didn’t listen and was so angry that his face turned black. “Mom really gave birth to you in vain, you are useless!”
“Okay, mom, my little sister knows she’s wrong, so stop scolding her.”
Li Guizhi hurried over to persuade them, saying that the mother and daughter had no overnight grudge. If she was tactless and just watched the fun, her mother-in-law would definitely be dissatisfied with her when she remembered it.
“Hmph! Since Qingqing and your sister-in-law have both pleaded for you, then mom will forgive you this time. If it happens again, I will take the two children away.” Zhang Xiu was not really angry with her daughter. She only had this one daughter, who she had raised like a treasure since she was a child. How could she bear to hit her?
This time she was also very angry. She was afraid that her daughter would harm the two children and her son-in-law would become cold to her.
Song Li wanted to say that you won’t have this opportunity, He Linyuan has already made up his mind to divorce her, and he is probably going to file for divorce now, and he will also take the two children away.
But she didn’t say it at this moment, “Don’t worry, I really changed this time.”
He brought the meat to him again and said, “I’ll cut you a piece and you can take it home.”
“Okay, the two kids haven’t eaten yet, what are you doing to me? Your mother isn’t that greedy.”
After hearing about his daughter’s story of hunting a wild boar, Zhang Xiu knew how dangerous it was and could not bear to give up the piece of meat. He was glad that his daughter had the intention to do so.
She pulled her second daughter-in-law, who was swallowing silently, and turned to leave, fearing that Song Li would force her to eat more. “I see your noodle jar is empty. When we get back, I’ll ask your third brother to bring you some food.”
The little old lady was nimble and agile, and she disappeared in a short while.
Song Li chuckled. Although the original owner was spoiled and domineering, her family was really good to her.
Seeing her mother smiling happily, Qingqing pinched the corner of her clothes with her little hands and asked carefully, “Mom, are you really good to Qingqing?”
