Sweet Military Marriage: The Rough-and-Tumble Officer’s Addictive Pampering Chapter 1

Chapter 1

Bian Li was waiting in the airport lounge, her flight delayed by over an hour.  Last night, before bed, she received a call from her husband, whom she hadn’t contacted in over a year since their wedding.

Apparently, he’d been in intense training in a remote mountain area, followed by various exercises across the country, leaving him no time to contact her.

Actually, there wasn’t much need to contact each other…

Their relationship wasn’t exactly a normal marital one…

She vaguely remembered Fu Yunze’s cool voice: “Asleep yet?”

It was a voice from so long ago that she wouldn’t have known who it was without the contact information.  Bian Li replied, “Not yet.”

“I’m coming back tomorrow. My family wants us to have dinner at the old house tomorrow night. Do you want to come back?”

Bian Li didn’t really want to go, but accompanying him home was part of their pre-marital agreement. She simply replied, “Okay.”

He hesitated, “Will you pick me up tomorrow?”

Bian Li checked her schedule; she had the next day off.  She readily agreed, “Okay.”

“I’ll send you the flight information later.”

“Mm-hmm.”

Soon, a message popped up on her phone.  Bian Li saw it was from her editor. She opened her laptop and started working.

Half an hour later, Bian Li was startled by her phone ringing.  She saw it was her own number and answered, “Hello? Did you arrive?”

Leaning her head to the side while answering the phone and typing, she heard his clear, slow voice, “Where are you?”

Bian Li stopped working and looked towards the exit, “In the waiting area.”

“I’m at the exit.”

“Okay, I’ll be right there.”  Hanging up, Bian Li quickly packed her things and went to the exit to wait for him.

The exit was only a five-minute walk away.  She was taking her time when a tall man, like a huge wall, stood in front of her. She glanced at him without paying much attention and walked around him.

After a few steps, the man stood in front of her again, blocking her path. She looked up – a tall, well-built man with sharp brows, bright eyes, a high nose bridge, and a strong jawline.

What’s going on?

Bian Li asked, puzzled, “Sir, do you need something?”

The man was clearly stunned, looking at the girl with bright eyes, curved eyelashes, and fair skin…

He was speechless; she had actually forgotten him.

Seeing him unresponsive, Bian Li walked around him again. She reached the exit and looked at the monitor for a few minutes but didn’t see him.

She muttered to herself, “So long, and he said he was at the exit…”

Bian Li picked up her phone to call him, then thought, as a social anxiety sufferer, texting would be better.  She hung up and sent a text.

[Have you arrived?]

There was no reply.  Suddenly, a man stood beside her.  She looked up – it was the same man again!

Could this be a pick-up attempt?  Although he was handsome, Bian Li, remembering she was a married woman, shifted to the side.

Sure enough, the man said, “Miss, what are you doing here?”

Bian Li turned, her soft hair brushing against Fu Xiangze. Fu Xiangze could smell her sweet fragrance; it was very pleasant.

Bian Li noticed his deep gaze and felt a little embarrassed. She stammered, “I… I’m here to pick up my husband.”

The man understood, snorted, and a playful glint flashed in his eyes, “Oh Have you been waiting long?”

Bian Li didn’t want to chat with him, so she picked up her phone and called her husband.  However, Bian Li watched in disbelief as the man next to her answered the phone.

Her mind went blank… ??? Ah? No way?

“You… you…” she stammered, then awkwardly smiled, starting to stutter.

The man calmly exposed her, “So, dear wife, have you forgotten what your husband looks like?”

He deliberately emphasized “husband” and “wife.”

Bian Li felt mortified.  Ah? Who can tell her what’s going on?

Bian Li giggled, “Ah? No… how could that be? My husband is so handsome, he’s handsome wherever he goes, how could I forget him?”

Fu Xiangze stared at her, seemingly surprised by her ability to improvise…

Bian Li herself hadn’t expected it.  She’d considered everything except her husband’s appearance.

Fu Yunze looked at her and said slowly, “So, what were you looking at on the screen? What were you looking at when you were at the exit?”

“That… that…” Bian Li quickly changed the subject, smiling awkwardly.

“Oh, let’s go, everyone’s waiting.”

As Bian Li walked away, she muttered to herself… Oh dear… it’s over.

Living like this, Fu Xiangze would definitely think he’d married an idiot…

At some point, Fu Xiangze walked in front of Bian Li.  He was about to ask where she parked her car…

He suddenly stopped, and Bian Li, unable to react, bumped into him.  Fu Xiangze watched her clutch her nose, her face flushed…

He smirked and feigned concern, “Are you alright?”

Bian Li didn’t care about her image anymore, “You tell me! You were walking fine, why did you stop?”

Fu Xiangze mocked, “I didn’t look back, I was worried my wife would run off with another man. After all, she’s the type who doesn’t even remember her own husband.”

Bian Li was furious.  She raised her voice, “I would not!”

“Then why didn’t you recognize me when I was standing in front of you?” Fu Xiangze’s deep eyes looked at her, as if saying, “Go ahead, let’s see what excuse you come up with.”

“That’s… that’s…” Bian Li wanted to argue, but how?  Should she say, “You haven’t been home for so long, I forgot what you looked like?”

He might throw her off a bridge…

Fu Xiangze waited patiently for her answer. Bian Li had a sudden idea, laughing, “Oh, are you hungry? I’m starving! Let’s go home quickly, Grandpa and Grandma are waiting.”

She started to walk, but Fu Xiangze grabbed her bag, leaning close to her ear, “Don’t try to escape, think about how you’re going to apologize to me later.”

He took her bag and strode ahead, leaving Bian Li with a dashing back view.

Bian Li muttered behind him, “It’s your fault for not coming home!  It’s normal that I didn’t recognize you after so long!”

Fu Xiangze’s ears twitched, and the corners of his lips curved again… He turned around, “What did you just say?”

Bian Li immediately said, “No… nothing.”

She continued to mutter, “I spoke so softly, do pilots have super hearing?”

Fu Xiangze “…”

At the parking lot, Fu Xiangze got into the driver’s seat. Bian Li slowly fastened her seatbelt, opened a bottle of water and gulped it down.

Fu Xiangze drove silently.

The car was eerily quiet.  At a red light, he seemed to be searching for something.

Bian Li, wanting to connect with him, casually asked, “What are you doing?”

The vengeful man turned and said indifferently, “Thinking about what I look like in your mind.”

Bian Li immediately, “Hey hey hey… you…”

Fu Xiangze saw her annoyance and smiled faintly.

He suddenly remembered a police friend.  At a gathering, he talked about his new wife.

He said that when they first got married, because they rarely saw each other, when he went to pick up his wife, she got into the wrong car.

It was hilarious, he said he immediately asked his boss for leave. He said if he didn’t take leave, he was worried his wife wouldn’t recognize him.

He thought it was an exaggeration, but when it happened to him, it was so absurdly real…
