The amusement park was packed with people on the weekend—kids, parents, students, and couples moving around in groups. As noon approached, the sun grew hotter, and the crowds and stifling air made everyone sweat.
Wei Jin and Meng Yue Sheng looked at the bustling scene before them, feeling a bit overwhelmed.
Yep, probably shouldn’t have come to the amusement park during the weekend rush!
But, since they were already here and had bought the tickets…
Might as well squeeze through the crowd…
Haha, here’s how it all happened.
After Wei Jin failed to find any decent tips online, she decided to follow her instincts, though she did reference a few online notes. Where’s the best place for couples to spark some romance? The amusement park, of course! The thrills and laughter always trigger a surge of hormones. Heart-pounding moments await you—sweet, sweet love is in the air~
So Wei Jin asked Meng Yue Sheng out.
Both dressed casually in simple sportswear, and without planning it, they ended up looking like they were wearing matching “couple” outfits, showing just how in sync they were.
Wei Jin spotted a lively ice cream shop and stopped.
“What flavor do you want?” Wei Jin asked, glancing at the flavor board displayed outside.
“Honeydew and vanilla.”
“Got it, wait here.”
Wei Jin squeezed into the crowd and joined the line. In front of her was an alpha mother holding her child, arguing endlessly about “You can only have two scoops, not one more” and “Hurry up and choose what you want.” The child, however, kept throwing a tantrum, insisting on getting every flavor.
The noise was so annoying, especially combined with the hot weather, that it made people feel even more irritable.
The beta customers nearby frowned but didn’t say anything, turning their heads away as if not seeing it would calm their minds.
Eventually, the alpha mom gave the kid two light flicks on the head, and only then did the child quietly pick two flavors.
When it was finally Wei Jin’s turn, she ordered three scoops for herself and two scoops for Meng Yue Sheng, paid for them, and carefully made her way out, worried the ice cream might melt and fall.
The ice cream had already started to melt a bit.
Wei Jin took small, quick steps toward Meng Yue Sheng, “Hurry, eat it, it’s melting…”
Her three scoops were already dripping, with the melting ice cream threatening to flow down the cone and onto her hands.
Meng Yue Sheng took his ice cream, noting the half-warm, half-cold sensation from the wrapping paper.
They found a shady spot under a tree, and Wei Jin, taking a big bite of her ice cream, winced at the cold, letting out a huff of air.
“Did you see that mother and child in line ahead of me?” Wei Jin asked while slurping.
“Uh… the kid in the blue t-shirt?” Meng Yue Sheng squinted, trying to recall.
“Yeah, that’s them. Hahaha, that kid kept whining about wanting every flavor of ice cream, but then his mom gave him a good smack, and he shut up right away! Hahaha…”
“Kids are bound to be a bit greedy,” Meng Yue Sheng replied, rotating his ice cream cone, now reshaped into a little pyramid as he took bites.
“Hehehe, I was thinking, what would I do if that were my kid?” Wei Jin took another big bite, almost finishing off one and a half scoops.
“Sigh, I think I’d do the same as the mom—give them a couple of flicks and make them understand why flowers are so red…”
Wei Jin turned to look at Meng Yue Sheng, a mischievous grin still lingering on her face from the previous comment, “Do you think I’d be right to do that? What about you? How would you handle it?”
Meng Yue Sheng just looked at her, noticing the white ring of ice cream around her lips, and seemed to know that she really wanted his answer.
“If I say you’re right, would that satisfy you?” Meng Yue Sheng gazed up at the tree leaves above them, the cicadas buzzing incessantly. Then he turned back to Wei Jin, “I’d hope I could teach my kid well enough that they wouldn’t want to eat every flavor at once. Instead, they’d choose to try them one at a time…”
He finished the last bite of his cone.
Wei Jin, also done with her cone, said calmly, “And I’d also teach them that eating too much ice cream at once will give them a stomachache—even adults aren’t immune to that…”
Wei Jin rubbed her stomach, “You’d be a great dad, but three scoops of ice cream are just so delicious… Ugh, I just couldn’t resist…”
“Alright, adults have the right to choose three scoops if they want.”
Meng Yue Sheng wiped his hands with a wet wipe, then leaned in closer to help Wei Jin clean the little “milk mustache” around her mouth with a fresh wipe.
“And your hands are sticky too…”
Meng Yue Sheng carefully wiped each of her fingers, then tossed the trash into a nearby bin.
“Still sticky?”
Wei Jin tested her fingertips, “Nope, not anymore.”
“Hehe—” She suddenly leaned into Meng Yue Sheng, resting her head on his shoulder, “You’re the best. I like you…”
The ice cream scent still lingered, and her mouth was cool from the cold dessert.
As soon as Wei Jin leaned into him, Meng Yue Sheng half-embraced her waist and chuckled, “Is my little baby being clingy?”
“Hmm… half-clingy, half expressing how much I like you—yep, I like you the most…”
“Okay, okay, I get it. Good girl, stop squirming.”
With that, Wei Jin stopped rubbing against him, “Okay~”
“Wanna go ride the roller coaster?”
“Let’s go!”
Under the blazing sun, they stood in line for about ten minutes before finally getting on the roller coaster.
Wei Jin had been to the amusement park before, back when she was in middle school. Her parents had still been willing to take her out for fun back then, but she was too short to ride the big attractions. Still, those few rides had left her with enough memories to last a long time.
Little did she know things would turn out the way they did…
Wei Jin had always been a pretty laid-back person, from beginning to end. She didn’t care about who her dad remarried or about getting a stepbrother. As long as it didn’t involve her, she was fine with going with the flow. As long as she had a place to eat and live peacefully, that was good enough for her.
That’s what she used to think—keep to yourself, and I’ll keep to myself.
But unfortunately, things went downhill.
And she no longer had the mood to play along with others.
Sitting on the roller coaster again, Wei Jin felt a little dazed, as if she was thrown back into her past life.
Suddenly, her hand was grabbed by the person next to her, pulling her back to the present.
“Are you scared?”
Meng Yue Sheng asked her.
Wei Jin looked at him and suddenly felt relieved. The past was in the past, and dwelling on it would only add unnecessary worry.
“Of course not. You should take off your glasses, though, or they might fall off.”
Wei Jin held out her hand, “My pocket has a zipper. I’ll keep them safe.”
“Okay.” Meng Yue Sheng obediently took off his glasses and handed them to Wei Jin.
Without his glasses, Meng Yue Sheng’s gaze had a hazy, foggy look to it.
“Can you still see me clearly?”
Wei Jin asked playfully as she tucked his glasses into her pocket.
“Of course I can,” he chuckled, “My prescription’s not that strong.”
As the staff locked their seats in place and reminded everyone that the ride was about to start, telling them not to panic, the sound of the machinery began to whir.
When the ride started, Meng Yue Sheng grasped Wei Jin’s hand again.
Wei Jin squeezed his hand back.
Their legs dangled in the air, and at that moment, the only thing they could feel was the warmth of each other’s palms.
They slowly ascended to the highest point, and from there, the entire amusement park came into view, with square buildings surrounding it.
Her heart began to race in anticipation.
Wei Jin turned her head to look at Meng Yue Sheng, and just at that moment, Meng Yue Sheng turned to look at her too.
“It’s coming!”
In the next second, the roller coaster plunged downward, looping several times. It felt like they were cutting through the wind, with screams and laughter ringing out all around them.
Wei Jin couldn’t help but laugh out loud too, feeling an immense sense of freedom. For a moment, she only thought of herself, wanting to release all the darkness inside her.
When they returned to the starting point, a smile still lingered on her face.
She looked over at Meng Yue Sheng and couldn’t resist sharing her feelings, “That was so intense! Ahhh! I didn’t hear you scream though?”
Meng Yue Sheng was still catching his breath, “Yeah, I didn’t make a sound. I was screaming on the inside.”
Wei Jin was still panting, “Wow, you’re so impressive. I didn’t intend to scream either, but I couldn’t hold it in—it was just too thrilling…”
Originally, she wanted to ride it again, but after seeing the long line, she decided against it.
Wei Jin pulled Meng Yue Sheng’s glasses out of her pocket and handed them back to him, “The roller coaster takes pictures while you ride, let’s go check out the photos.”
“Okay.” Meng Yue Sheng wiped his glasses clean, just as the staff came over to unlock their restraints.
They headed down the stairs to the photo booth to check out their snapshots.
The staff found their photo—Wei Jin was laughing with her mouth wide open, her teeth showing, while Meng Yue Sheng looked perfectly composed, with just a slight smile. Even in the high-speed ride, his expression hadn’t changed much, and their hands were tightly clasped together.
“Oooh~” Wei Jin glanced at Meng Yue Sheng, “You’re amazing, your expression didn’t even break!”
She pretended to be upset, “I look so goofy in the photo. My heart hurts.”
“You look cute,” Meng Yue Sheng said, pinching her cheek, “You’re adorable no matter what.”
Unfortunately, there wasn’t a single picture where Wei Jin wasn’t laughing. In the end, they bought two that looked somewhat decent as keepsakes.
Since it was lunchtime, Meng Yue Sheng took Wei Jin to a restaurant for a meal.
After resting for a while, they went out to have more fun.
The haunted house was dark, with no staff members dressed as ghosts, so overall, it just relied on good sound effects.
Well, if you don’t count Wei Jin clinging to Meng Yue Sheng’s arm as they came out.
Wei Jin also dragged Meng Yue Sheng to ride the log flume. Even though they wore raincoats, their pants still got wet.
So, they sat on a public bench under the shade of a tree, stretching out their pant legs in the sunlight to dry them off.
Wei Jin slouched, resting her neck against the back of the bench. It felt okay for a few seconds, but after a while, it started hurting her neck, so she patted Meng Yue Sheng beside her, “My neck hurts~”
Meng Yue Sheng wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into his embrace, letting her lean against him.
“Hehe, love you.”
Wei Jin snuggled into his chest, the warmth of the sun on her legs making her a little sleepy.
“Meng Yue Sheng, let’s ride the Ferris wheel tonight…”
“Okay.”
“You’ve heard the love legend about the Ferris wheel, right?”
Meng Yue Sheng exhaled slowly, “I think I’ve heard of it.”
“Do you believe in it?”
“I believe in making our own destiny.”
“Alright then~” Wei Jin found his hand and intertwined her fingers with his.
