Chapter 1: Crossing Over
1970, Kyoto, Textile Factory Family Building
“Ping le pang lang…”
“Lower your voice, the girl is still sleeping.”
“I know, I know. Let’s hurry up.”
“Clang—”
Li Lin heard that the noise outside had stopped, so she opened her eyes and sat up.
She glanced at the room. Although it didn’t look very big, it was filled with all sorts of typical things a daughter might have.
This was clearly a family that loved their daughter.
As for her, she had crossed over from the 21st century.
Originally, she was the daughter of a newly rich family, a second-generation rich kid.
Growing up in a rural area, after graduating from college, her parents brought her to the city, gave her some shares in a company, plus some fixed assets and funds, and then stopped interfering in her life.
This left her, new to the city, clueless and quickly befriending a group of irresponsible companions.
Every day was either spent shopping, driving flashy sports cars, or flirting with handsome guys.
Who would have thought that one day, while driving, she couldn’t resist kissing a guy sitting beside her. But before she could even kiss him, she excitedly slammed her foot on the gas pedal. “Whoosh!”—and she crashed into a shopping mall.
A catastrophic car accident followed.
When she woke up, she found herself in the 1970s, inhabiting the body of a girl who shared her name.
As for how the original girl died, it was because she was scared to death by herself.
How did she get scared to death? Well, that’s a long story.
Let’s start by introducing the original family members.
The original girl, Li Lin, was seventeen years old. She had a father who was the head of the textile factory, Li Donghai, and a mother who worked as the factory accountant, Zhao Chunmei.
There was also an older brother, Li Feng, who had been in the army for three years.
The family had only two children: the older son had gone off to the military, leaving the little daughter, who was pampered by her parents.
In fact, the original girl hadn’t even finished high school when her parents secretly began looking for jobs for her.
She knew this was a serious matter, so she didn’t tell anyone, just waiting to finish high school before starting work.
Little did she know, just after receiving her graduation certificate a few days ago, before she had even processed the paperwork for work, she received a notice from the street committee about being sent to the countryside.
This news was like a bolt from the blue for the Li family, who spoiled their daughter.
They immediately asked what was going on. They had already found a job for their daughter and were just waiting to handle the paperwork. How could she be sent to the countryside all of a sudden?
The person from the street committee, who knew Li Donghai, explained that the girl who had signed up was about the same age as Li Lin.
Upon hearing this, Li Lin immediately understood who it was.
She slammed the door open and went straight to the house downstairs.
Without knocking, she barged in and started confronting the girl.
After a scuffle between the two families, they eventually figured out what happened.
The girl downstairs, Liu Lan, was the same age as Li Lin, but her treatment at home was completely different.
Since she was five years old, she had been helping her family clean the house and even stood on a stool to cook.
Meanwhile, Li Lin had been spoiled and pampered, wearing little dresses at home while being waited on by the adults. In fact, she had started school at six years old.
Thus, the two girls, growing up together in the same building, had led completely different lives.
This filled Liu Lan’s heart with jealousy.
After her family signed her up for the countryside, she secretly signed up Li Lin as well.
Li Lin was stunned by this absurd reason. After causing a scene at Liu Lan’s house, she went back home and lay in bed, thinking about the dreadful future awaiting her.
And then, she literally scared herself to death.
Li Lin was troubled at the thought of having to work on the farm every day in the countryside. How would she live her life from now on?
Just as she finished thinking this, the scene suddenly changed, and Li Lin found herself in a completely different place.
“Hey? Where is this?”
Li Lin looked around at the unfamiliar place, where there wasn’t even a sign, and she couldn’t even count how many floors the building had. With curiosity, she said aloud:
Then, recalling the “space” she’d read about in her novels, her eyes lit up, and she hurriedly walked inside. As soon as she stepped in, she froze in shock.
It was a shopping mall.
The basement was a large supermarket.
The first floor had: various jewelry, gold and silver ornaments, and cosmetics.
With a look of delight, she admired the gold and silver jewelry, then moved up to the second floor.
The second floor had: electronics, luggage, leather goods, bedding, knitting, and various other odds and ends.
The third floor had: various men’s clothing, “including underwear, socks, shoes, etc.”
The fourth floor had: various women’s clothing, “including underwear, socks, shoes, etc.”
The fifth floor had: snack shops, with every kind of snack imaginable.
*Slurp…* Li Lin couldn’t help but drool. She grabbed some oden (Japanese hot pot) and, while eating, made her way upstairs.
The sixth floor had: children’s clothing, a children’s amusement park, “with a carousel, bumper cars, sticky people, inflatable castles, trampolines, and electric trains.”
Not interested, she continued climbing.
The seventh floor had: beauty and body care, hair salons.
The eighth floor had: all kinds of vintage products.
Examples: old money, various tickets, postage stamps, radios, sewing machines, bicycles, kerosene lamps, coal stoves, honeycomb coal, enamel goods, military green clothing, water bottles, bags, clam oil, and so on.
“Damn, these are all things from this era! With these, I’ll never have to worry about food or drink again!” Li Lin said excitedly. Then, shaking her head, she muttered, “I have to keep this secret.”
After saying that, she gave one last lingering glance and continued her way upstairs.
The ninth floor had: entertainment facilities, “basketball machines, fighting and shooting games, dance machines, arcade machines.”
The tenth floor had: a cinema.
The eleventh floor had: KTV (karaoke).
The twelfth floor had: a gym.
The thirteenth floor had: dining, “Chinese restaurant, Western restaurant, hot pot, barbecue, buffet, etc.”
The fourteenth floor had: a swimming pool.
The fifteenth floor had: a bathhouse.
The sixteenth floor had: a hotel.
Li Lin opened a room, and seeing that the floor was covered with plush carpets, she immediately took off her shoes and stepped inside.
The room was luxuriously decorated.
Especially the large bed, which was more than two meters wide—it was just perfect for her.
There was also a large wardrobe, a vanity, and a bathroom.
She was completely smitten.
Li Lin lay on the comfortable bed, thinking to herself that with this space, even if she had to go to the countryside, she wouldn’t have to worry anymore.
*Knock knock knock.*
“Linlin, are you awake? Hurry up, your dad and I bought a lot of things. Come and see if there’s anything you still need,” Zhao Chunmei said. After shopping with her husband, she came back to find that her daughter’s door was still closed, so she put down the things in her hands and went to knock on the door.
“Coming, coming!”
Hearing the voice, Li Lin quickly slipped out of the space.
She went to the nearby closet, took out a clean outfit, and changed into it.
As for why she wasn’t picky about the clothes—wasn’t that a joke?
She had already crossed over into the original body, so how could she dislike the original’s things?
She put on a white dress with blue floral patterns, paired it with leather sandals, and wore an Omega 17-diamond watch.
Then she styled her hair into a signature braid.
She looked into the mirror and saw a girl with round eyes, a straight nose, cherry lips, and a sharp face.
When she smiled, two small dimples appeared on her face.
With her delicate, fair skin, it was easy to imagine that in just a couple of years, she’d grow into a great beauty.!
