Chapter 30: Injury, Covered in Blood
Everyone around, except for Fang Mingyi who had a beaming smile, shuddered uncomfortably.
Lin Meina was even more enraged by this and twisted her face in frustration.
“Ah, ah, ah, Li Zhiqing is jealous! Too bad, Fang Zhiqing is my boyfriend now. Some people’s little schemes are going to fail.”
Li Lin, seeing her like this, grinned and said, “Lin Zhiqing, don’t be too smug. After all, having a boyfriend isn’t the same as getting married. What if Fang Zhiqing gets tired of you soon and breaks up with you?”
Lin Meina forced a smile and said, “Li Zhiqing, don’t be so proud too soon. After all, having a boyfriend isn’t the same as marriage. What if Fang Zhiqing gets bored of you and breaks up with you?”
“This doesn’t concern you, Lin Zhiqing,” Fang Mingyi said, clearly displeased with Lin Meina’s words. He walked over to her, picked up the basket on the ground, and gently looked at Li Lin. “I’ll take you to the pigsty, and then I need to go to work.”
“You go to work, don’t worry about me. I’ll be fine with Yingying.” Li Lin said helplessly when she saw him like that.
“Alright, but you don’t need to cook lunch. I’ll make something delicious for you.” After saying this, Fang Mingyi reluctantly walked off to work.
“Huh, Fang Zhiqing is usually not like this. How come after he started dating you, he’s completely changed?” Hu Yingying said, rubbing her arms, as if she had goosebumps after Fang Mingyi left.
“This must be the power of love,” Li Lin giggled and then pulled Hu Yingying to the pigsty.
“Why are you still watching? They’re already together. No matter how much you look, Fang Zhiqing isn’t interested in you,” Liu Lan said ominously as she saw Lin Meina staring at Fang Mingyi’s retreating back.
“What’s it to you?” Lin Meina rolled her eyes, irritated. “You should go back to the pigsty or cow shed. They’re waiting for you.”
Lin Meina said this and swayed her hips as she walked away, leaving behind the sinister Liu Lan, who stood there deep in thought.
After a long time, Liu Lan gave a cold smile and turned towards the cow shed.
Li Lin, unaware of Liu Lan’s dark thoughts, was chatting with Hu Yingying while they were cutting pigweed.
When they were done chatting and the pigweed was all cut, they carried it back to the pigsty.
Coincidentally, Liu Lan was cleaning the pigsty.
Li Lin pretended not to notice and dumped the pigweed on the ground, then turned to leave.
“Li Lin, are you feeling smug?” Liu Lan stopped Li Lin, asking calmly.
Li Lin frowned and replied, “Why would I be smug? I haven’t even talked to you much since I was a kid. It’s always been you causing trouble for me, hasn’t it?”
“Yes, I’m jealous of you. Jealous that, as a girl, you’re the treasure of your family while I’m just the grass,” Liu Lan said, quietly approaching Li Lin.
Li Lin saw her intentions and quickly stepped back, but it was too late.
The iron fork in Liu Lan’s hand stabbed fiercely into Li Lin’s chest.
“Poof…”
“Ah… Linlin!”
Hu Yingying didn’t have time to help before she saw Li Lin spitting blood and collapsing to the ground.
“No, I didn’t mean to! I didn’t mean to!” Liu Lan muttered in fear when she saw Li Lin covered in blood.
“Li Dama, Li Dama!” Hu Yingying cried out, holding Li Lin up and shouting toward the woman feeding the pigs.
“Coming, coming!” Li Dama, hearing the cries, hurried out, but when she saw Li Lin covered in blood, she was startled.
“Li Dama, quickly check if there’s a truck outside the youth station. If there is, ask Uncle Chen to drive over. If not, go find the brigade leader and ask him to send a bullock cart. Hurry up, it has to be quick, understand?”
Hu Yingying, suppressing her fear, calmly gave orders.
“Alright, alright, I’ll go right now.”
After Liu Dama agreed, she turned and ran out. She tripped on the ground but didn’t stop to care, quickly getting up and rushing toward the youth station.
“Yingying, I’m fine, just put some medicine on my wound first. I’m afraid I might pass out soon,” Li Lin said, fearing for her life. She quickly grabbed the Yunnan Baiyao from her bag and handed it to Hu Yingying.
“Alright, I’ll do it right away. Hang in there,” Hu Yingying said as she took the medicine, trembling as she applied it to Li Lin’s wound.
“Yingying, do you think I’ve got some kind of bad luck with this brigade? How come I keep getting into trouble like this?” Li Lin felt dizzy, trying to stay alert so she wouldn’t fall unconscious, fearing she might not wake up again.
“Spit, spit, spit! Don’t talk nonsense, you won’t die,” Hu Yingying said, wiping away her tears. But just then, they heard the sound of a truck, and Hu Yingying quickly wiped her eyes and smiled at Li Lin. “Look, Uncle Chen is here. He’s come!”
“Mm, he’s here.” Li Lin murmured, but after saying that, she could no longer hold on and lost consciousness.
“Linlin, don’t sleep! Linlin, wake up!” Hu Yingying cried out in panic, shaking Li Lin, but nothing worked. Li Lin had fainted, and Hu Yingying was terrified.
Fortunately, Chen Dong quickly arrived in the truck. Without asking any questions, he carefully picked up Li Lin and placed her in the truck.
“Hu Zhiqing, you also get in the car and help hold Li Lin. We’re going to the county now,” Chen Dong said, knowing that the commune and the town hospital were no use for this kind of injury, so they were heading directly to the county.
“Uncle Chen, let’s first stop by the town to treat her wound, and then we’ll go to the county,” Hu Yingying quickly climbed into the truck to hold Li Lin.
Halfway to the town, they ran into Liu Dama again. Hu Yingying hurriedly asked Chen Dong to stop and spoke to Liu Dama.
“Liu Dama, please go to the field and find Fang Zhiqing. Tell him to get a referral letter from the brigade leader and take some money to the town to find us. If they don’t have what we need, then go to the county. Hurry, please! It has to be quick, okay?”
“Alright, alright. You all go ahead. I’ll go right now,” Liu Dama agreed and ran to the fields. When she saw Fang Mingyi, she called out.
“Fang Zhiqing, Li Zhiqing has been hurt. She’s gone to the town now.”
Fang Mingyi, startled by the news, dropped the hoe in his hand and rushed to the edge of the field. He asked Liu Dama what happened.
“Hu Zhiqing asked you to get a referral letter from the brigade leader, bring money, and go to the town to find them. If the town doesn’t have what they need, go to the county. Hurry, Li Zhiqing is covered in blood and has fainted.”
Liu Dama spoke quickly and then collapsed to the ground, unable to get up.
When Fang Mingyi heard that Li Lin was covered in blood, his mind went blank.
It was Zhu Liyan who came over, shaking Fang Mingyi and bringing him back to his senses. Fang Mingyi immediately sprinted off.
“Yi Ge, I’m coming with you!” Zhu Liyan shouted, chasing after Fang Mingyi.
“Yanzi, go back and grab the money tickets for both of us. I’ll go get the referral letter from the brigade leader. We’ll meet at the village entrance later.” Fang Mingyi gave the orders without looking back, heading straight for the brigade office.
When the brigade leader heard that Li Lin was injured and covered in blood, he didn’t hesitate. He immediately took out a stack of referral letters, stamped them quickly, and told Fang Mingyi to fill in the details where needed.
Let me know if you’d like to keep going!
