Chapter 30: He Hasn’t Even Tasted Sisi’s Cooking
Wang Xiaodao looked up and only then noticed the soldier standing behind the young woman.
The man stood motionless, his eyes cold and sharp, like a wolf guarding its food.
He immediately suppressed his smile, wiping his hands on his clothes again and again, then skillfully took out a cigarette case and offered it: “Hello, sir, care for a cigarette?”
Gu Chengfeng waved his hand, indicating that he didn’t smoke.
Wang Xiaodao put the cigarettes back, his oily face still smiling: “What can I do for you two leaders?”
He addressed them as “two leaders,” referring to Gu Chengfeng.
Gu Chengfeng ignored him, looking down at Shen Sisi.
Shen Sisi said with a smile: “Brother Dao, I’m Sister Hongmei’s younger sister, she asked me to find you.”
Mentioning Jiang Hongmei, Wang Xiaodao suddenly remembered: “So it’s you, the one who bought the coconut oil.”
“Yes, yes…”
Wang Xiaodao exclaimed, relieved that he hadn’t gotten into trouble.
Hearing that Shen Sisi wanted coconut oil, his eyes lit up. He quickly put down his notepad and told the person beside him to watch the unloading.
“Come with me…”
Shen Sisi, carrying Niu Niu, followed briskly.
Gu Chengfeng didn’t know what she wanted the coconut oil for, but he quickly followed her into a medium-sized cargo ship.
The cabin wasn’t large, filled with countless large barrels.
Wang Xiaodao casually walked to a barrel, took out a key as a lever, and quickly pried open the lid, creating a small gap.
Inside was a white, lard-like paste, filling the entire barrel.
“Little sister, this is all top-quality cold-pressed coconut oil, forty kilograms per barrel, a total of two thousand kilograms. It’s oil from island coconuts, very fresh. If it weren’t for these two familiar faces, I wouldn’t be willing to sell it…”
Wang Xiaodao smiled ingratiatingly, praising the oil extravagantly, treating her like a goddess of wealth.
Shen Sisi was stunned by the barrel of coconut oil!
In the cold weather, the coconut oil was all frozen. How could she weigh it, or make medicinal oil?
Wang Xiaodao, having spoken until he was parched, saw her staring blankly and asked: “How much do you want…”
Shen Sisi’s words were instantly stuck, stammering and extending a finger.
“One thousand kilograms?”
“One hundred kilograms?”
Shen Sisi smiled awkwardly: “Ten…”
Ten kilograms of oil was already a lot; she estimated that she would have plenty left over after this batch.
Wang Xiaodao’s mind buzzed. Only ten kilograms? Was she teasing him?
Did she know how busy he was?
He felt tricked, wanting to lash out but hesitant with Gu Chengfeng present, could only resign himself to his fate: “You two should have asked around; when has Wang Xiaodao ever done such small business? This is a waste of time!”
Shen Sisi didn’t know that he didn’t do retail sales…
“I’m sorry…” she apologized softly.
Gu Chengfeng’s expression darkened, his cold eyes sweeping over him: “How do you do business, daring to pick on customers!”
Wang Xiaodao was furious but dared not utter a word, after all, he hadn’t explicitly stated that he didn’t do retail.
Then, Gu Chengfeng turned to Shen Sisi, his stern face softening: “Is this coconut oil absolutely necessary?”
Shen Sisi shook her head: “Not really, it’s mainly because it’s cheap… But now I don’t want it anymore.”
Coconut oil solidifies easily, making weighing and using it in medicine inconvenient.
“Actually, I wanted peanut oil and soybean oil, but they’re expensive, and you need coupons… The black market has them, you can buy them directly with money, but they’re expensive…”
That’s why she had considered coconut oil.
But now it seemed that coconut oil wasn’t suitable either.
Shen Sisi frowned, if it didn’t work out, she would buy some from the supply and marketing cooperative first, make the medicinal oil, and not break her promise on her first order.
At this time, Wang Xiaodao spoke: “Hey, you should have said so earlier…”
He went behind a pile of barrels and found a large glass jar containing half a jar of golden oil.
“I have half a jar of soybean oil left, about eight kilograms, a sample from an oil mill. I don’t like the taste of this oil for cooking, and I was going to give it to the guys on the ship. Since you need it, I’ll give it to you!”
Wang Xiaodao generously gave it to Shen Sisi without charging a penny.
Shen Sisi was surprised and delighted: “How can I accept this?”
Wang Xiaodao nervously glanced at Gu Chengfeng and quickly laughed: “Consider it an apology for my rudeness earlier!”
Before Shen Sisi could speak, Gu Chengfeng domineeringly took the oil jar, insisting on paying: “We have rules, we can’t take a single thread from the people.”
Wang Xiaodao couldn’t refuse Gu Chengfeng, so he symbolically accepted three yuan.
“Try it when you get back. If you like the oil, feel free to come find me. You’re Hongmei’s sister, I’ll guarantee you the lowest price…”
Shen Sisi nodded repeatedly, about to respond, when he grabbed her arm and quickly pulled her out of the cabin, the whole movement fluid and efficient.
Before Shen Sisi could react, she was already back on the pier, firmly held by his hand, walking through the crowd.
Unexpectedly, she had come for coconut oil and received an unexpected bonus!
She got eight or nine kilograms of oil at a price far below market value.
Of course, she also understood that this was a coincidence. If she really decided to do the medicinal oil business, she would have to plan long-term, and perhaps she would really come back to find this Brother Dao…
Along the way, Gu Chengfeng’s face was grim.
Was the money he gave not enough?
Shen Sisi was so frugal, she didn’t even dare to buy ten kilograms of soybean oil from the supply and marketing cooperative, and had to go to a messy place like the pier to buy cheap coconut oil.
The more he thought about it, the angrier he became, not at Shen Sisi, but at himself!
Shen Sisi didn’t know why Gu Chengfeng suddenly became unhappy, his whole person gloomy.
Could it be that he thought she had embarrassed him?
Shen Sisi deliberately slowed her pace, gently scratching Gu Chengfeng’s fingers like a kitten.
The angry man in front of her immediately stopped, his body stiff as iron.
“What… what are you doing?”
Shen Sisi stood still, her voice clear and serious: “Gu Chengfeng, I’m sorry, I troubled you to accompany me on this little matter. I promise it won’t happen again.”
Gu Chengfeng frowned, even more irritated by her words.
He forcefully pressed his thin lips: “Alright, let’s go home…”
Back home, Shen Sisi handed Niu Niu to Gu Chengfeng.
She carefully put the soybean oil in the cupboard, then added the sliced mushrooms to the chicken soup and simmered it over low heat.
The fresh mushrooms met the boiling broth, the aroma instantly intensified, filling the whole house with a captivating fragrance.
Shen Sisi put on her apron, about to stir-fry some dishes, when Gu Chengfeng lifted the curtain and came in.
“Go and rest, I’ll do it.”
“What?” Shen Sisi was surprised, when did he learn to cook?
Gu Chengfeng naturally took the spatula from her hand, without a word, gently pushing her shoulder.
He hadn’t tasted Sisi’s cooking yet, how could he let Heizi and the others have it all?
