Chapter 9: I need your approval if you want to marry her
They only dared to whisper behind his back, not daring to approach.
After all, the man looked fierce, who would be foolish enough to provoke him?
Everyone was waiting to see the drama unfold.
Gu Chengfeng’s gaze swept over these gossipers, temporarily restraining himself, his mind already planning…
Shen Sisi felt uncomfortable under their scrutiny. Gu Chengfeng must feel even more uncomfortable.
Thinking this, Shen Sisi bravely raised her head and glared back at them one by one.
Her demeanor was quite fierce, those who met her gaze quickly averted their eyes, not daring to meet hers.
Feeling Shen Sisi’s counterattack, Gu Chengfeng, unfazed by their stares, moved closer to her, as if being by her side was a glorious and celebratory event.
Upon entering the building, Shen Sisi finally relaxed. She asked Gu Chengfeng to wait, she would go up and greet her aunt.
Gu Chengfeng also thought it impolite to barge in, so he handed Niu Niu back to her: “Go ahead, I’ll wait for you.”
He stood patiently with the bags at the stairwell, waiting.
Shen Sisi nervously knocked on the door. As soon as she opened it, she saw her bag neatly placed by the doormat.
“Aunt, this…” She looked at the bag, her expression displeased.
Zhao Shilan’s eyes were red from crying, she hung her head: “I’m sorry, Sisi. Your cousin Tingting needs to bring her fiancĂ© back, there’s no room in the house…”
Shen Sisi remained silent. Her cousin rarely came home, and it wasn’t a holiday, why would she suddenly return?
With a little thought, she understood everything.
Her cousin’s return was a pretense, her aunt and uncle’s attempt to get rid of her was the truth.
It seemed her uncle was putting pressure on them!
Zhao Shilan looked at her, a hint of reluctance in her eyes, but she restrained herself.
Shen Sisi knew her aunt’s predicament, and knew her uncle could get violent.
She had previously spoken up for her aunt, more than once advising her to divorce, but divorce was a huge deal in this era. Her aunt valued face and was weak, never making a decision, saying things like, “What couple doesn’t fight?”
Making up after a fight…
Divorce was so shameful, people would gossip, and it would affect Tingting’s marriage.
She was also angry at her aunt’s weakness, but powerless to change it. Every time she helped her aunt, her uncle would retaliate against her aunt.
Thinking of this, Shen Sisi took a deep breath and sighed softly: “I came to say goodbye to Aunt and Uncle, I’m leaving soon.”
“Leaving? Going back to the countryside?” Zhao Shilan asked.
Shen Sisi shook her head: “I’m going elsewhere, I’m getting married.”
“Getting married?” Zhao Shilan’s voice rose in surprise: “You… you really found someone?”
Shen Sisi hummed, a subtle smile on her face.
“Who is it? Tell your aunt, let’s see if this family is trustworthy!” Zhao Shilan was genuinely worried: “Be careful, don’t get tricked or sold.”
Many girls were tricked into leaving their homes and sold to the mountains.
Thinking of Gu Chengfeng’s reassuring military uniform, Shen Sisi showed her teeth: “He wouldn’t, he’s a soldier.”
“What? A soldier?” Chen Jianguo just came out of the room and heard Shen Sisi say she was getting married, to a soldier.
“Did he rob your ancestral grave, or owe you thousands of dollars, why would he want you…?”
Chen Jianguo sneered, looking Shen Sisi up and down, his expression pausing slightly at her red woolen coat: “You bought new clothes to put on a show, fooling who?”
“With your reputation, who would be blind enough to marry you? Don’t embarrass yourself.”
Shen Sisi frowned in disgust, about to speak, but Zhao Shilan tugged at her sleeve, gesturing for her not to argue.
In the past, she would have ignored it, but today she couldn’t bear it. How dare he say Gu Chengfeng was blind?
“Chen Jianguo, I respect you as my uncle, I’ve always respected you, but I, Shen Sisi, am not a trash can for you to pour your filth on. Watch your mouth!”
Shen Sisi’s unyielding demeanor was quite imposing.
Chen Jianguo was taken aback, unable to react for a moment.
“I see you’ve grown wings and are itching for a beating, daring to talk to me like that…” Chen Jianguo glared, wanting to kick her.
Shen Sisi’s brows furrowed. Chen Jianguo’s authority was challenged, he looked furious.
She wasn’t afraid, but worried that her aunt would have to pay for her outburst after she left.
Just as the two sides were facing off, Gu Chengfeng’s steady footsteps came from behind.
“Picking on a woman, what kind of man are you? Come at me if you’ve got guts!”
“Who the hell are you…?” Chen Jianguo was about to act tough, but was stopped by a sharp gaze.
Gu Chengfeng put down his things, protecting Shen Sisi and the child behind him, instantly ready for a fight.
He already looked intimidating, now even more fierce, his dark face tense, his eyes flashing with ferocity.
“I am Gu Chengfeng, battalion commander of the First Battalion, Southwest Wild Battle Zone One, Shen Sisi’s fiancĂ©!”
Chen Jianguo was startled by his gaze, his body instinctively trembling.
Gu Chengfeng… a familiar name, but he couldn’t remember it.
He put on an air of superiority, looking at Gu Chengfeng, but deliberately avoiding his sharp eyes.
This kid was young, but looked fierce, definitely not someone to mess with.
So what if he was a soldier, a battalion commander? Could he beat him?
Chen Jianguo arrogantly began to act superior: “I don’t care who you are, I’m Shen Sisi’s uncle, if you want to marry her, you need my approval… understand?”
Shen Sisi had no parents, he, her uncle, was her elder.
If he didn’t agree, no one could take Shen Sisi away.
Gu Chengfeng glared at him: “What are you…?”
He was acting like an elder, but really just acting superior.
Chen Jianguo’s face was lost, he was about to lose it.
Shen Sisi knew his temper best, vain, arrogant, and quick-tempered, easily provoked.
Sure enough, Chen Jianguo was like a cat whose tail was stepped on, instantly furious, but seeing Gu Chengfeng’s face, he dared not provoke him, only venting his anger on Shen Sisi,
“Shen Sisi, you really chose the worst of the worst, what kind of trash did you choose? Are you so desperate for a man? You’ll take anyone…?”
Gu Chengfeng’s jaw was clenched, his temples throbbing, his eyes bloodshot, wanting to punch him, but he looked at Shen Sisi and held back!
He narrowed his eyes, exuding a dangerous aura, leaning close to Chen Jianguo: “Uncle, you may not know who I am, go ask Heizi, he’ll tell you everything.”
Then, he patted Chen Jianguo’s shoulder heavily.
Chen Jianguo, who had been arrogant a second ago, turned pale, as if caught red-handed.
Heizi…
Lin County’s local thug, also his creditor, he often played cards with Heizi and owed him a lot of money.
“You… you… who are you? How do you know him?” He stared at Gu Chengfeng, his tongue tripping.
Gu Chengfeng’s expression was calm: “Uncle, are you planning to have this conversation at the door?”
Before Chen Jianguo could speak, Zhao Shilan quickly ushered them in: “Yes, yes, Comrade Gu, please come in, let’s talk inside…”
He nodded and walked straight past Chen Jianguo.
