Chapter 11
After Shen Sujing came back with them, he went back to his room to read the script. Of the four brothers, Shen Chutang listened to Shi Chengyu the most, and he was the one who took the best care of her.
Although Big Brother looked serious, he was actually the softest-hearted. Tangtang could say anything, and he would agree to it, maybe just with a little coaxing. Second Brother was different. He was completely hands-off. He let her do whatever she wanted. And Shi Chengyu was somewhere in between. He indulged her but was also afraid of going too far. He controlled her, but Shen Chutang wasn’t afraid of him, so it was best to leave her in Shi Chengyu’s care.
Shen Boyu came out of his room and found Shen Sujing alone in his room. He asked in confusion, “Hey, where’s that kid from the Shi family? Did he leave?”
Shen Sujing looked up from his script and replied vaguely, “No, he’s downstairs with Tangtang.”
“Hey, you little rascal,” Shen Boyu knocked his head. “How can you let someone else keep your own sister company?”
Shen Sujing covered his head. “Grandpa, it’s the same, there’s no difference.”
“How can there be no difference?” Shen Boyu said angrily, walking to the balcony of the second-floor living room to look down. “Can anyone else be as attentive as a real brother?”
As soon as he finished speaking, he was speechless by the scene downstairs.
There really was.
His own brother was busy with his own affairs upstairs.
Downstairs, Shi Chengyu was accompanying Shen Chutang, watching her skip and jump on the cobblestone path, carefully reaching out to protect her from behind.
“Grandpa, don’t worry. Brother Chengyu is taking good care of her.” Shen Sujing came out of his room, looking at the scene downstairs. He couldn’t help but take out his phone and take a picture.
Shen Boyu looked at his carefree appearance and was furious. He asked again, “How old is that kid?”
“Brother Chengyu? He’s the same age as Second Brother, a few months younger.” Shen Sujing was still taking pictures, casually replying to him.
“He’s too old.” Shen Boyu muttered softly.
Shen Sujing didn’t hear clearly. He casually asked, “What’s old?”
“I’m old, I’m old. You stinky brat!” Shen Boyu patted his butt several times with his fan. “You’re a blockhead.”
He then walked away angrily, leaving Shen Sujing to whine and rub his butt in place.
*
The next day was Saturday, and Shi Chengyu slept in as well.
When Shen Sujing went downstairs, he only saw Old Master Shen practicing Tai Chi in the courtyard. He followed behind and did it with him.
Yesterday, he had someone get a pass for Shi Chengyu’s car. This morning, Lin Shulang came early, but Shi Chengyu was still asleep, so he waited outside for a while.
When Shi Chengyu woke up, he brought the things inside: some antiques and paintings bought at the auction a while back, as well as some tea leaves. These were all according to Old Master Shen’s preferences. Most importantly, there were two food boxes placed securely in the passenger seat.
Shen Sujing helped carry the things. He thought the boxes contained something important, but when he took a closer look, he saw the mark of Yaxuan on them.
“Doesn’t Yaxuan do deliveries?”
Lin Shulang had a polite smile on his face. “Miss Shen is different after all.”
Even though he was used to it, he was still shocked. Shen Sujing took the food boxes inside and didn’t let the servants touch them.
When he went upstairs to call Shen Chutang, he found that Shi Chengyu was already there.
Shen Chutang had just woken up and was throwing a tantrum, lying on Shi Chengyu’s shoulder, refusing to get up.
“I had someone send breakfast. There are dumplings, shrimp dumplings, and buns.”
“After eating, will you draw with me?”
“Or do you want to read? Xiaojing said there’s an apricot tree in the back mountain, with a lot of fruits, all yellow, do you want to pick some?”
Shi Chengyu’s voice was very gentle. Shen Chutang wanted to sleep even more, but her stomach grumbled inopportunely, as if eating was more important.
“I want to eat.” Shen Chutang said softly, getting up from him. She saw Shen Sujing standing at the door, arms crossed, looking at her with a smile.
“If you don’t get up soon, you’ll turn into a little lazy pig. Get up and wash your face. I’ll go downstairs and have someone boil the dumplings.”
Shen Sujing teased, turning and going downstairs.
Shen Chutang hid in Shi Chengyu’s arms. “I’m not a little lazy pig.”
Shi Chengyu laughed softly. “No, you’re not.”
Besides the breakfast, Shi Chengyu also had Yaxuan send a bowl of nourishing soup. Shen Chutang was most afraid of pain and hated taking medicine. If she caught a cold, her period would be painful, and she would have a bad temper. In the worst cases, she would need to get a painkiller injection.
Perhaps she was in a good mood today. Shen Chutang ate a bowl of dumplings, a basket of shrimp dumplings, and even finished the soup.
Shen Boyu spent the entire meal secretly observing the two of them. Shi Chengyu took good care of Tangtang. In contrast, Shen Sujing ate like a fool. He couldn’t stand to look at it.
After eating, Shen Chutang followed Shi Chengyu back to his guest room. The curtains were drawn, and the room was bright. She realized that there was a cookie on the bedside table. She hadn’t seen it last night.
She ran over and picked it up. It was the one she left on the island counter yesterday. “Why didn’t you eat it?”
Shi Chengyu carefully took the cookie back, afraid that it would break with a little force. He said with a hint of grievance, “It was the only one, I couldn’t bear to eat it.”
Shen Chutang snorted. “You had five originally.”
Shi Chengyu pinched her cheek. There wasn’t much meat on it, just a little bit on his fingertips, soft and smooth. “Grandpa is old. It’s not good for him to eat too much sweets.”
He saw it yesterday. There were still a lot of them in the fruit bowl on the coffee table.
“You’re going to steal from Grandpa?!” Shen Chutang stared at him in surprise, her beautiful black eyes reflecting his figure. “It’s not like Grandpa is the only one eating it. Second Brother and Third Brother will eat some too.”
“Second Brother doesn’t like sweets, and Sujing needs to maintain his figure, so he won’t eat that much.”
Shen Chutang looked at him seriously analyzing, wanting to laugh, and she did. “Brother Chengyu, do you know what you look like right now?”
“Like Daidai when he can’t get the canned food.”
A clear laugh escaped his throat. Shi Chengyu put his arm around her. “Would Tangtang be willing to pity me?”
Daidai was the oldest cat in the cat cafe. He was slow-moving and a bit slow to react. Every time they opened a can of food, he couldn’t get it. He would go and rub against Shen Chutang’s legs. Whenever that happened, Shen Chutang would open two cans for him and let him eat alone.
Shi Chengyu wanted that too.
He hugged her, his head lowered, resting on Shen Chutang’s shoulder.
“Brother Chengyu, you’re so greedy.” Shen Chutang said with a smile. “You want to hear stories, and you want to eat cookies.”
“But out of pity for you, I’ll make some for you when I’m in a good mood.”
Shen Chutang said magnanimously, rubbing his hair. Her palm felt a little itchy.
Shi Chengyu laughed softly. “Thank you, Tangtang.”
Shen Sichen rushed over before lunch. As soon as he arrived, Shen Boyu slapped him twice on the butt. “You’re late to see me! Do you still have me, your grandpa, in your heart?!”
“Hey, hey, Grandpa!” Shen Sichen laughed and dodged to the side. “It’s not that I’m late, Grandpa. It’s that Tangtang and the others came early.”
“They can come early, but you can’t!” Shen Boyu snorted angrily, waving his fan constantly.
“You know, I’m busy with the company. I don’t have that much time!”
“You’re busy?”
“Yes, you’re very busy. Don’t let me hear anyone say that you’ve been spreading rumors about you and some young lady again.”
