Chapter 22
“What were you two talking about?” Shen Sichen leaned back on the sofa casually, a faint scent of alcohol on him.
Shen Sujing glanced at Shen Chutang. She blinked, not knowing how to answer. Then she said, “We were talking about asking Tangtang to help me shoot an MV again. She thought it was fun.”
“Yeah, yeah!” Shen Chutang nodded. “Third Brother even gave me money!”
“How much?” Shen Sichen asked.
“Thirty thousand!” Shen Chutang had a proud expression on her face. She even used her hand to make a three.
Shen Sichen snorted. “Is our family short of money? Are you happy about thirty thousand yuan?”
“It’s different! I earned it myself!” Shen Chutang retorted, snuggling into the sofa and glaring at him.
Shen Sichen was even more amused. He asked her, “Do you know how much the teapot in your tea room costs?”
“How much?” This time, Shen Chutang asked.
Shen Sichen also used his hand to make a three.
“Three hundred?” Shen Chutang asked suspiciously. It was just a teapot. How expensive could it be?
“Three… million.” Shen Sichen said slowly, enjoying her surprised expression.
He then looked at Shi Chengyu, meeting his disapproving gaze. He smiled lazily. How could you do good deeds without leaving your name?
People bought it at auction as a collection. He, on the other hand, bought it as a toy for Tangtang. The key was that he bought two. But three million and three hundred were probably the same to him.
The script in Shen Sujing’s hand fell to the ground with a “thud.” Shen Chutang came to her senses and looked at Shi Chengyu.
She really didn’t have much concept of money, but three million was clearly a huge number. She couldn’t even count the zeros with one hand.
“Brother Chengyu…”
Shi Chengyu rubbed her head. “It’s okay. You earn money to spend it.”
Shen Sichen agreed. “Exactly. Besides, you spend no less than that.”
He was just teasing her about being proud of the thirty thousand yuan. He didn’t want her to feel guilty about spending so much money. She was the only girl in the family. How could they not treasure her?
“Three million won’t make the Shen family poor, and neither will Chengyu. Even tens of millions won’t.” Shen Sichen walked over and pinched her cheek. “Tang’er is already amazing for earning thirty thousand. That’s great.”
“Alright, I’m going upstairs to sleep.”
Shen Chutang rubbed her face. She smelled the faint scent of alcohol on him and asked, “Second Brother, are you drunk?”
“It seems so. He’s almost floating when he walks.” Shen Sujing said, standing up from the sofa. “I’ll take him back to his room.”
They were the only two left in the living room. Shen Chutang seemed to still be thinking about what had happened before. She turned around and asked him, “Brother Chengyu, how long does it take you to earn three million?”
This question was a little difficult to answer. He had never calculated it, but looking at Shen Chutang’s slightly furrowed brow, he said seriously, “Probably… a week.” Maybe even less.
Shen Chutang’s expression relaxed. “That’s good. But don’t buy anything that expensive next time.”
“It’s not expensive. Besides, it’s not just for you. I use it too. And don’t you drink all the tea you brew for me?” Shi Chengyu looked at her, liking her more and more. He smiled. “The most important thing is that Tangtang is worth it.”
Even the most expensive things were just numbers. But Shen Chutang’s happiness was worth more than a thousand gold.
Shen Chutang was stunned after listening to him finish. She suddenly smiled, her lips curving upwards, two shallow dimples on her cheeks. His reflection was in her bright, curved eyes.
As the end of the year approached, there was a lot going on at the company. Sometimes, Shi Chengyu would come back, but he would still have to deal with things online. Shen Sichen would sometimes come back in the middle of the night.
The winter in Beijing was dry and cold. As soon as you stepped outside, the wind felt like knives cutting your face. Your nose even felt dry.
Shen Chutang stayed in her room. She did her homework, baked cookies or cupcakes, or occasionally helped Shen Sujing review scripts.
When Shi Chengyu came back in the evening, she would stay in his study to work with him, brew tea, read books, and sometimes fall asleep on the sofa. Shi Chengyu would carry her back to her room.
Today, Shen Chutang had been thinking about something important she wanted to tell Shi Chengyu. She wanted to wait until he was finished before telling him.
But as she waited and waited, she started to get sleepy. Her head nodded and nodded, and then she would suddenly wake up, shaking her head.
Shi Chengyu felt both heartache and amusement watching her. He walked over to her, and she hadn’t noticed. When Shen Chutang nodded her head down again, he reached out and held her chin. “What’s wrong?”
Usually, she would sleep on the sofa when she was sleepy. Today, she was so sleepy sitting at the tea table that she wouldn’t go to sleep.
Shen Chutang woke up a little and rubbed her eyes. “Brother Chengyu, are you finished?”
“I’m finished. Come on, let’s go to sleep.”
As soon as Shi Chengyu finished speaking, Shen Chutang stood up and pulled his hand, running. “Then hurry up, I have something to give you.”
Back in the room, Shen Chutang went to the closet mysteriously, then took out a beautifully packaged box and handed it to Shi Chengyu. “Brother Chengyu, I can’t spend New Year’s with you this year.”
This year, Shen Chutang’s parents were in Suzhou and couldn’t come back. When Shen Sichen’s company went on holiday, they would go to Suzhou, but Shi Chengyu would just be on holiday then.
“You always gave me New Year’s gifts first. This year, I’ll give you one first!” Shen Chutang still had a bit of sleepiness on her face, her eyes bright and moist.
Shi Chengyu opened the box. Inside was a white sheep plush toy. His zodiac animal was the sheep.
“Thank you, Tangtang.” He couldn’t tell if he was more surprised or touched. Shi Chengyu’s voice was a little hoarse.
“I made it myself. It’ll keep you company when I’m not here.” Shen Chutang took the sheep and put it in Shi Chengyu’s arms. “Brother Chengyu, give it a name. That way, it’ll be a special sheep!”
Shi Chengyu held the sheep in one hand. It was very soft. He rubbed her head with the other hand. In his heart, this was already the most unique sheep in the world.
“Since Tangtang made it, then Tangtang should name it.”
Shen Chutang’s expression became a little troubled. “Then I have to think carefully. I can’t be careless.”
“Okay.” Shi Chengyu agreed, his voice full of indulgence. “But Tangtang should go to sleep today. Think about it tomorrow.”
“Hmm.” Shen Chutang was really sleepy. Her eyelids were fighting.
Shi Chengyu covered her with a blanket and put the sheep inside. “Let it keep Tangtang company for me first.”
Shen Chutang smiled with her eyes curved. She hugged the sheep. “Okay, Brother Chengyu, good night.”
“Good night, Tangtang.” Shi Chengyu kissed her forehead. His heart melted. He waited until she fell asleep before turning off the lights and leaving.
Shen Chutang thought she wouldn’t have time to say goodbye to Shi Chengyu, but Shi Chengyu actually took a day off early and took her to the aquarium, keeping her company for a day.
