Chapter 43
Xie Tong, seeing Ji Man suddenly walk over, excitedly pulled Shen Chutang’s hand, her fingers trembling.
“Miss Shen, hello.”
Shen Chutang was surprised by her sudden greeting. She quickly let go of Xie Tong’s hand, stood up, and shook hands with her. “Hello, you’re so beautiful.”
“Do you know me?” Shen Chutang asked again.
Ji Man’s eyes suddenly welled up. “Miss Shen, we met five years ago. But you were still young then, you probably don’t remember. You also said that to me five years ago.”
Just one sentence changed her fate.
At that time, she had just started her freshman year. She ran away from home, had no money, and stayed in Beijing for summer vacation to work as a summer worker. She ran to film sets to find roles to play. But she had no resources, no identity, and was alone. At her poorest, she only had five yuan on her.
She really thought about taking a wrong path. Compared to face, money was more important. She was wearing a skirt bought for two hundred yuan. It was the most expensive piece of clothing she had ever worn, but it was to sell herself.
She mustered up her courage and pushed open the door of the private room. Sitting in the main seat was a little girl. Seeing her come in, she praised her for being beautiful. The man beside her looked up and glanced at her. Later, she learned that the man was Shi Chengyu.
Later, that sentence became her resource in the entertainment industry. She got her first female lead role and gradually made her way out. She wanted to thank her, but Shen Chutang wasn’t someone she could easily contact.
She didn’t expect fate to be so wonderful. A thank you, after all these twists and turns, was finally said.
“Thank you, Miss Shen.”
Shen Chutang waved her hands repeatedly. “You’re too polite, you’re my third brother’s friend. Just call me Tangtang.”
“By the way, this is my good friend. She’s your number one fan!” Shen Chutang pulled Xie Tong over to introduce her.
Xie Tong spoke nervously, her words stuttering. “I, you, woo woo woo, I’ve met the real person!”
Ji Man and Shen Chutang were both amused. “Hello, your name is Xie Tong, right? Do you want to take a photo after the banquet?”
Xie Tong nodded repeatedly, tears almost falling.
“Miss Shen, I’ll go over there first.” Ji Man nodded slightly.
Shen Chutang smiled sweetly. “Okay, go ahead, sister.”
“Tangtang – am I dreaming? Woo woo woo.” Xie Tong stared intently at Ji Man’s back.
Shen Chutang looked at her amusedly. “No, you’re about to break my hand.”
Xie Tong instantly came to her senses and quickly let go of her hand. It was already red from being held. “Compared to you, Tangtang, I’m too nervous.”
“It’s okay, it just looks red, it doesn’t hurt.” Shen Chutang rubbed her hand. Her second brother had just come down and taken Zhou Xingyang away. She didn’t know where Shi Chengyu had gone either.
“Xie Tong, I want to go find Brother Chengyu. I won’t accompany you for now.”
Xie Tong’s eyes followed Ji Man. “Okay, go ahead. I’ll watch my goddess.”
Shen Chutang walked around the banquet hall, but she couldn’t find Shi Chengyu. She just watched the protagonist of this banquet, like Xie Tong, staring at Ji Man.
“Third brother, does she look good?” Shen Chutang leaned over and asked softly.
“She looks good.” Shen Sujing didn’t move, unconsciously answering.
Realizing what he said, Shen Sujing blushed slightly and tapped her head. “Tangtang!”
Shen Chutang chuckled. “Third brother, when are you going to confess?”
“You little girl, what do you know.” Shen Sujing’s face was a little red. “I should ask you how you met. You met her earlier than I did.”
Shen Chutang said, “Ah? I don’t know either. Sister Ji Man said she met me, but I don’t remember.”
“Your little brain can’t remember anything. But it seems like she likes you a lot.”
“Of course, I’m so cute, who wouldn’t like me.” Shen Chutang’s expression was a little arrogant, her head slightly raised, revealing her white neck. “Third brother, when did you start liking Sister Ji Man?”
Shen Sichen’s gaze accurately fell on the red figure in the crowd. The corner of his lips curled slightly, his voice soft and shallow. “A long, long time ago.”
So long that he could hardly remember how many years it had been.
Shen Chutang smiled at him. “So cheesy.”
“Forget it, forget it. It doesn’t affect you watching. I’m going to find Brother Chengyu.”
“Okay, be careful. If you can’t, let the maid follow you.”
“No need, I’m an adult.”
Shen Chutang walked a little further. When she passed by a few female guests, she heard Shi Chengyu’s name. She thought she had heard wrong and stopped to listen.
“I can’t believe Mr. Shi is like this. I was shocked when I saw him just now.”
“Men are like that, it’s normal. Especially people in this circle, who doesn’t keep a few?”
Shen Chutang frowned at what she heard and interrupted them. “Excuse me, I’m sorry to interrupt. Where did you see Shi Chengyu just now?”
The few female guests looked at each other and then looked at her. “In the garden behind. But little sister, he might not be convenient to see people now.”
“Thank you.”
Shen Chutang thanked them and walked towards the garden behind, wrapped in her shawl.
Passing through the hall, the temperature suddenly dropped. It was a bit cold. It was so cold, what was he doing outside?
Shen Chutang walked quickly. The cold air hit her legs, making her shiver. The night was dim. Shen Chutang suddenly heard a very faint female voice, “Assistant Lin, he can’t do this to me. Why is he doing this to me!”
Her steps immediately stopped. She turned her head and saw Lin Shulang leading a girl away.
Shen Chutang unconsciously frowned. The voices of the female guests she had just heard echoed in her ears.
Her shawl fell to the ground, but Shen Chutang didn’t care. She took bigger steps. On one hand, she wanted to find Shi Chengyu as soon as possible, but on the other hand, she didn’t want to meet him here.
A figure walked towards her from the front. The light was too dim, and the wisteria on the corridor blocked the moonlight completely. Shen Chutang couldn’t see the person’s face, but she recognized it was Shi Chengyu just by his figure and the way he walked.
She stopped there, not moving.
When they were two steps away, Shi Chengyu saw her. A questioning voice rang out in the darkness. “Tangtang?”
Shen Chutang’s heart skipped a beat. She asked him, “What are you doing in the garden?”
Shi Chengyu didn’t answer. He walked forward and took off his suit jacket to put it on her.
But Shen Chutang took a step back and mustered her courage to ask, “Who was the girl Assistant Lin took away just now?”
Shi Chengyu’s movements froze. He seemed to have not expected her to ask this question. He was stunned and couldn’t answer.
“Who did Lin Shulang just send away? What’s your relationship with her?” Shen Chutang’s voice was already choked, as if she was trying to hold back something. “Shi Chengyu.”
“I don’t believe what they say. I only want to hear you say it. I only believe you.”
Tears streamed down her cheeks. The wind blew past, bringing a chill to her face, cold and piercing.
Shen Chutang stared straight at him, just wanting to hear his answer. But Shi Chengyu just remained silent. A long silence, everything around them seemed to freeze.
